Soaring
Nah, I wouldn't want to work on something that might be seen as too similar to their 2016 bid, even though I have some ideas for significant changes like the location of the Olympic stadium and Aquatics Center. AK30
I dont know about Melbourne...I still have the feeling the Australian olympic committee would like to give Brisbane another shot at it...as much as i think that would be failure like 92. I just have the feeling Queenslanders think its their turn and would cry foul if Melbourne got another shot at it before them. I do hope though its Melbourne. I still think like many others..Melbourne is the sporting capital of the world and there is no better place to host such an event..
Lord David
Strange, Melbourne would cry foul if Brisbane got the shot again. After all when it was decided to officially bid (aside from the musings of a bid for 1988), Brisbane went first and failed. Only fair that Melbourne go first should we bid again and fail. Is it official though? Can you point me to the source that confirms this? And what do you think are Melbourne's chances. I guess first and foremost, we would want to see a Euro city take 2020.. Lord David
No of course it's not official, it's just seems logical. Why should Brisbane get to be first to do another attempt to get the Olympic Games when they got to officially be first the first time.

Olympic Fan Darcy
i think brisbanes biggest fail with 1992 was its wide venue plan in toowoomba gold coast and it was even going to be called the brisbane-gold coast olympic bid but IOC didnt like conjoined bids, doing my research on it, heres a nice link http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=131431 if sydney lost 2000 melbourne wouldve bid for 2004 weird huh! i think brisbane has potential for future not in the 20's though maybe the 30's but i dont think australia could get it in the 20's 2020 europe 24 usa or africa 28 the loser of 28 32 maybe south asia, bangkok or india or something else and maybe us we shall see
Lord David
^^ Which is why I'm conflicted with that bid book I saw of Brisbane's bid for the 1992 Olympics. It's s book produced as part of the bid and not the 3 file book, but why change the venue plan during the bid race?

We host the Australian Open each year (where lead up Tennis events are held around the country prior to this with the crown being of course the Australian Open in Melbourne in mid-late January). There's the Formula 1 Grand Prix on this week and who can forget the Melbourne Cup? A public holiday dedicated to a sporting event! We have the largest football league play most of it's games here, including the grand final, boasting numbers that the NRL can never match. We also host numerous cricket, soccer and rugby games. The sheer number of sporting events held here clearly gives us the title of Sporting Capital. We have the historic and large MCG to back up that claim. When Brisbane hosts and Olympics, I can only see a 90,000 main stadium at most, to beat any US offering. Melbourne has a 95,000 minimum that could be expanded to well over 100,000. Lord David
What was wrong with the old one? Ok so we have: DamC, USAandItalia, intoronto1125 and barrack - Melbourne, Australia Scotguy (Hope he can still do this, but if not we have eliminated) - Edinburgh, United Kingdom Emre - Paris, France (maybe, as in if he's still doing this) Deawebo, Wingspread and tikus_kecil - Berlin, Germany Stark - Tel Aviv, Israel Demetrius - Tunis, Tunisia Afiqnadzir and aismanggo - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and me Pyongyang, Democratic People's Republic of Korea Quite a good turnout. Correct me if the teams are wrong. Let's hope there's more applicants! Oh and about working in teams, naturally, if someone did jack squat, they don't deserve to be credited as a working team member. Only fair. But don't let that stop you "supporting" the bid.

Scotguy
The Scottish Government will today meet in a special vote to decide whether Edinburgh's proposed bid for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games will go ahead. Last week it was decided to pull out of the bidding race after issues were raised regarding funding and time constraints. However after negotiations, the First Minister has decided to hold a special vote, as to secure funding or not for the bid. The CEO of the Edinburgh Bid, Scotguy said in statement, "I am delighted with the Scottish Governments decision to look again at our plans, and make a decision, we are ready to bid and host these games in 2024, all we need is this chance and we will bring the world to Edinburgh". The results of the vote will not be announced until 07:00 GMT, when the special session of Parliament ends.
