gotosy
Amsterdam bidding for 2020 Euro The Dutch football association KNVB will propose Amsterdam as a host city for the 2020 UEFA European Championship. KNVB will bid for three group matches and one round of 16 match. Host cities approved for group stage matches will see their country represented on their pitch twice. The national football association approved the measure at its general meeting on Monday in Zeist, according to RTL Nieuws. The deadline for the submission to UEFA is April 25th, 2014. KNVB will also try to secure the entirety of the 2017 Women’s European Championship, with 16 countries invited to participate. UEFA broke with tradition for the 16th edition of the men’s tournament, deciding to hold the matches in up to 13 cities across Europe. Of the 14 tournaments held since 1960, 11 have taken place entirely in one country, while the other three took place across two countries who bid for the tournament in a joint proposal. Currently, the Amsterdam ArenA does not have the seating capacity required by UEFA to host later rounds. The international association wants quarterfinal fixtures held in stadiums with 60,000 seats, and the semifinals and final in a 70,000-person stadium. Capacity for the ArenA during football matches is about 53,000. http://www.nltimes.nl/2013/12/17/amsterdam-bidding-2020-euro/

Tony E Loves Architecture
An expansion for AA... Intresting but maybe a little hard. 60,000 tops... There have been discussions in the past about expanding Amsterdam Arena to 68,000 Seats when Holland/Belgium bid for 2018 World Cup. This would require adding a 3rd tier by lowering the field of play as I read (which wouldn't work because how would vehicles access the pitch? gotosy
Bilbao, Madrid compete to host Euro2020 MADRID: The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has confirmed that the new San Mames stadium in Bilbao and Atletico Madrid's future home La Peineta will be their candidates to host matches at Euro 2020. Espanyol's Cornella El Prat and Valencia's new Mestalla stadium, which had previously been earmarked as potential hosts, have now been discarded. "After analysing the four stadiums initially presented as candidates for the European Championships in 2020, the board has announced that it will propose San Mames (Bilbao) and La Peineta (Madrid) as candidates to host matches during the tournament," the RFEF said in a statement on Wednesday. Both the stadiums selected have yet to be completed. The new San Mames opened in September, but one stand is still to be constructed before it will reach its full capacity of 53,000. Meanwhile, La Peineta, which would have been the Olympic stadium in 2020 had Madrid's bid for the Games been successful, will not be ready to host matches until at least 2016, but does have the advantage of a significantly bigger capacity of 70,000. ... FA general secretary Alex Horne told The Times: "On the basis that someone needs to stand up, we have done it. "It's a big game, the opening game. It would be great for London, for Wembley. I pushed it to UEFA, quietly at the moment, but we are going to make a play for it with our bid." petrpetr
Actually I think whole process in now a little bit predictable. I think there wont be double choosen country, UEFA will choose 13 cities from 13 federations. 33 countries are bidding, but imho we can exclude a few: Astana, Yerevan, Baku, Yerusalem are too far from west Europe, and countries dont have significant football past. For Macedonia and Belarus it could be too fast too. This means we have 27 bids and 13 places. I cant imagine tournament without big 5 (Germany, England, Spain, France, Italy). That means 8 spots for 22 bids. Ukraine: Kiev is bidding for finals package only (unachievable for them), and Donetsk for standard one but brand of Donetsk is falling among rest of cities (many capitals) making 21 bids left for 8 spots. From geopolitical point of view it could look like this: - Scandinavian city (Stockholm,Helsinki,Copenhagen) - Another UK&Ireland city (Dublin,Glasgov,Cardiff) - Istambul for final. - Balkans city (Sofia, Bucurest, Beograd, Zagreb) - Central Europe city (Prague,Warsaw,Budapest) - Russian St.Petersburg - Benelux city (Amsterdam,Bruxelles) - Rest (Lisbon, Basel, Athens). But its not such an easy thing ;-)

Brekkie Boy
Considering it seems unlikely the World Cup will be in England first I do wonder if they'd have been best off not playing a part in this 2020 farce and instead focusing on hosting 2024 outright - as frankly thanks to the ridiculous expansion to 24 teams only 4-5 countries could probably host the tournament alone now. gotosy
Nations League: New European competition to start in 2018 A "League of Nations" competition intended as a third major tournament for European countries after the World Cup and European Championship has been given the go-ahead by Uefa. The competition, which starts in September 2018, will also provide four qualifying spots for Euro 2020. Uefa is still finalising the details but there will be four divisions, sub-divided into four smaller pools. The top division's four pool winners will then play each other in June 2019. There will be promotion and relegation between divisions. The tournament will replace most international friendly fixtures, with pool matches played between September and November 2018 and the 'final four' competition played the following summer. The opportunity to qualify for the European Championships is intended to make the League of Nations competitive. The best four teams in each division who have not already qualified for Euro 2020 will play off for the final four places in the tournament. "Twenty teams will advance from the qualifying competition to the Euro 2020 finals - which are being played in 13 cities around Europe," Uefa general secretary Gianni Infantino told delegates at the authority's Congress in Kazakhstan on Thursday. "That leaves four extra slots to be filled and they will come from four teams from the Nations League who have not otherwise qualified." On current ranking, England would be in the top division alongside the likes of Spain, Germany and Italy. Each division would then be divided into pools of three or four teams, with the winners of each pool qualifying for a semi-final and final, played at neutral venues. ... gotosy
Stadio Olimpico chosen by Italian Football Federation for Euro 2020 bid The Italian Football Federation has selected Rome's Stadio Olimpico as the country's only bid to host Euro 2020 matches. The FIGC announced on Wednesday that the Stadio Olimpico, which has a capacity of over 70,000 seats, meets all of the requirements requested by governing body UEFA to stage such games. The European Championship will be held in six years' time in multiple cities across Europe to celebrate the 60th edition of the tournament. "For the 2020 Euro edition, UEFA wants to involve 13 capitals (cities)," FIGC president Giancarlo Abete said to figc.it. "Rome meets all the requirements, not only for its universal role but for its historic and cultural heritage; there is also the geographic position...and the fact that 57 years ago the basis for a European (Economic) Union - the Treaty of Rome - was precisely born here. "The Stadio Olimpico hosted the Champions League final in 2009. "We will nevertheless make some necessary improvements." Milan's Giuseppe Meazza stadium, which will host the 2016 Champions League final, was also considered as a possible bid but was eventually discarded. "It's Rome's bid that will go forward," Italian Olympic Committee president Giovanni Malago said to figc.it. "We will wait until September 19 to see if Rome is able to be a part of this unprecedented edition with so many countries that will host games." Serie A sides Roma and Lazio have played their home games at the Stadio Olimpico since 1953 although both clubs are planning to build their own stadia in the near future http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/12040/9257521/international-stadio-olimpico-chosen-by-italian-football-federation-for-euro-2020-bid

Tony E Loves Architecture
Ok, these are the Countries/Cities still in the Bidding Process:Here in England (Here in London).Spain (Barcelona, Madrid and Bilbao).Republic of Ireland (Dublin).Germany (Munich).Wales (Cardiff).Scotland (Glasgow).Holland (Amsterdam).Hungary (Budapest).Sweden (Stockholm (Solna)).Turkey (Istanbul).Ukraine (Kiev and Donetsk).Armenia (Yerevan).Belarus (Minsk).Azerbaijan (Baku).Bulgaria (Sofia).Croatia (Zagreb and Split).Denmark (Copenhagen).France (Lyon).Greece (Athens).Israel (Jerusalem).Italy (Rome).Kazakhstan (Astana).Macedonia Fyr (Skopje).Romania (Bucharest).Russia (St Petersburg).Serbia (Belgrade).Switzerland (Basel).Ok. IMO, France and Russia shouldn't be chosen, as they will Host the recent UEFA Euro 2016 and 2018 Fifa World Cup. Also, Stadiums with an Athletics Track should only be chosen if in desperate need, because of sightlines IMO. These are who I would choose:Western Europe:Wembley Stadium, Here in London, England (90,000 Seats). Final and Semi-Final Venue.Aviva Stadium, Dublin, Republic of Ireland (51,700 Seats).Millennium Stadium, Cardiff, Wales (75,000 Seats). What a bizzare choice Donetsk hosted EURO 2012 matches and might be in Russia in like a month. Astana is waaay too remote location, placed in a country with rather poor football traditions. The whole panEuropean format was to allow smaller countries to host some matches. You chose Donetsk and completely ignored Greece, Romania, Bulgaria, Denmark.. Rob2012
Turkey is playing a slightly dangerous game here, but I can see what they're doing. They felt let down after the Euro 2016 process, had the endorsement of Platini for 2020 and then UEFA changed things meaning they couldn't host the whole tournament. By only bidding for the finals they're testing Platini's earlier committment, highlighting the fact that UEFA endorsed them, and highlighting their earlier committment to the 2020 tournament when there was little interest from elsewhere. Platini has to either deliver on that now, or end up awarding Turkey absolutely nothing. It's a little bit awkward for UEFA in that sense. Of course, it could backfire on Turkey if for example - the lure of Spain or the organisational ease of Wembley win out.
Galandar
Turkey withdrew. They will concentrate on EURO 2024 bid. IMO that is a wise desicion after being robbed in 2016 and later deceived in 2020. Turkey deserves the whole EURO tournament not a part of it.
