kernowboy
I think the Velle Hovin speed skating arena was being roofed like they did with the Eisstadion Inzell producing a 12,000indoor speed skating track. If the Telenor was used for Ice Hockey along side the Spektrum, then a Convention Center which could house a Figure Skating venue and the Nye Askerhallen as shown above for Curling, gives you your 5 indoor halls and the outline of the Korketrekkeren track is still in place - at the time it was 1507m long with 13 turns dropping 124m with an average gradient of 8.6% - it needs a couple of extra turns for the minimum of 15, but its average gradient is steeper than St Moritz, La Pagne and Park City. A temperary prefabricated track merely needs be placed on top. The Harbour area could have a temporary facility of 50,000 built for the opening and closing ceremonies as has previously been suggested. So: Velle Hoven - Speed Skating 12,000 seats (IOC min 8,000) Telenor Arena - Ice Hockey 15,000 seats (IOC min 10,000) Spektrum - Ice Hockey 7,500 seats (IOC min 6,000) New Convention Centre - Figure Skating (IOC min 12,000) Jordal Amfi or Nye Askerhallen - Curling (IOC min 3,000)

Sir Rols
28 years ago for one of the leading sporting winter nations is a considerable time. Exactly - that's what won them the 2016 WYOGs ( well, that and the fact no- one else wanted them). So another 20 years till the next. Lots of places deserving a chance before going back again. I think the fact no-one else wanted 2016 so Lillehammer stepped in will act in their favour for Oslo 2022 not detract from it. And after the slightly riskier options of Sochi and Pyeongchang, Oslo is the classic safe as houses banker.

As would the likes of Germany, Switzerland, Austria - who have an added adantage over Norway in that they haven't hosted as recently. I think it's only wishful thinking that would put Norway as anything but a long shot for 2022.
markun
I've been thinking about this a lot and really, as much as it is an attractive proposal, Oslo only becomes viable if the other bids are especially weak or flawed. It certainly is a safe, competant host that would put on a great Games but lots of places are ahead of them in the queue.

Or would it be too inconvenient a location? According to Google Maps it is just under 28km from the Holmenkollen ski jump and 20km from Bjorvika, which itself is itelf 10.5km from Holmenkollen Looking at the website you can see that it might have space inside for events like Curling and maybe even Speed skating because it appears vast in the photos. gotosy
Lillehammer 2016 Youth Olympics could pave way for Norway 2022 Winter Games bid Hosting a successful Winter Youth Olympic Games could help enhance Norway's international reputation and encourage a potential bid from the country for the 2022 Winter Games, said Siri Hatlen, the chair of Lillehammer 2016. ... There are high expectations after Lillehammer hosted arguably the greatest Winter Olympics so far in 1994 and Hatlen said her team is keen to hold another world-class event, which could help a potential 2022 bid most likely to come from Oslo, the Norwegian capital. ... baron-pierreIV
Norway's NOT going to get it. In the last half of the 20th century, they already got TWO winter games...the equivalent of France, the USA and Japan; and they're a miniscule nation. Not going to happen again for 2022, especially with Munich there.

If Germany does withdraw and the Swiss get their act together, it's likely to be a battle between Oslo and Davos/St Moritz (provided the local voters don't wreck it with a "No" vote - a distinct possibility in Switzerland). George_D
Fester grip on urban development in the eastern districtsOslolaunched at a press conference today three concepts within the overallframework "Games in the City" is to ensure a good and necessarydevelopment of the capital. At the same time also most systems now in place.Urban development in Oslo East: How can it look like if a participant and media village will be added Økern. (Illustration: Snøhetta / Cowi / MIR)Citycouncil leader Stian Berger Rosland (H), sports commissioner JohnElvestuen (V) and agency director Oslo2022, Eli Grimsby, today unveiledconcept study that was submitted to the city council ward 1 March.Olympic village GroruddalenThe concepts "Breivoll", "Kjelsrud" and "Økern" municipality wants to meet the challenges of a fast-growing capital. Allconcepts involves a boost for Groruddalen / Oslo East and involvesextensive investment in green transport thoroughfares for pedestriansand cyclists, and good urban spaces. The idea is to build movement into the city in new ways.- We suggest adding both participating village, media village and media center into one of these areas in Groruddalen. This will constitute the core of byutvikingsgrepet. Thislarge building stocks that could make a difference and be a driver inthe development of the area they are located in, says council leaderStian Berger Røsland.Several new facilitiesConsideration for unmet needs and re-use is central to the study. In Oslo there are twice as many who are fighting for space in multi-sports halls than the national average. It has been important to plan for re-use and multi-purpose.Bead Chain around the festival: How should the plants are placed in a ring around the festival in Oslo.- We propose to build five new ice surfaces in Oslo and one in Lørenskog. In addition, a new biathlon facility at Linderud and Nordic Holmenkollen. Snowboard / Freestyle, we want to share between Wyller and Grefsenkleiva, says Commissioner John Elvestuen.Figure skating and short track racing, which requires audience capacity of 12 000, Oslo will add to the Telenor Arena. The study shows that there is no commercial basis for even a large hall in the region.-We follow our values and want to prepare for a wonderful event, butwe also want to show restraint where possible and will not build morethan it needs, says council leader Stian Berger Røsland.Speed Skating is the Valle Hovin. A hockey hall put on Jordal, while the greatest hockey hall located in Oslo east, most likely Stubberud. Curling added Lørenskog, with probable subsequent use as ice hockey hall.Selects Kvitfjell / HafjellThe municipality has investigated two alternative ski resorts for the winter Olympics and Paralympics in 2022. Both Kvitfjell / Hafjell and Norefjell are good options as places to host the alpine events.- However, we can only choose one facility and recommend going ahead with the Lillehammer region Kvitfjell / Hafjell. We consider this to be the most robust and realistic option. Wealso emphasized that Lillehammer has a good reputation internationallyand also want to be able to use all the knowledge and expertisedeveloped through the Youth Olympic Games in Lillehammer in 2016, tellsElvestuen.Press Conference at City Hall: City Council leader Stian Berger Rosland (H) presented the concept study.Olympic budgetOlympic budget consists of implementation costs, private investment and public investment in construction and transportation. Deducted from the income comes in the form of sponsorship, licensing revenues and ticket revenues. Net grants that must be covered by the state, the host cities and the sport is at 20-23 billion. This allocation formula is not yet clear.- We have emphasized to produce good estimates of costs with high quality of our research work. It applies to both revenue, operating costs and investment costs. City Council will ensure that the cost estimates are quality assured before being processed by the City Council, said Elvestuen.Investments for the future-The Olympics will undoubtedly cost money, but with the growth capitalof Norway is in, we will be able to make us all investments must be madein connection with the Olympics, whether it's sports facilities, housing or infrastructure, says council leader. It now created a search committee to coordinate the work ahead. The Committee will consist of key individuals from sport, Oslo and other relevant bodies.
baron-pierreIV
So, if only Poland, Ukraine and Norway are bidding for 2022, then indeed, it may swing Norway's way. Munich has about a year to decide.
