zigzag
I'm not seeing any torch-extending action so far. Also, the security people seem quite obtrusive: Have you watch this video before? The Brazilian torch relay for the Rio de Janeiro Olympics has kicked off with volleyball player Fabiana Claudino running the first leg after the torch was ignited by embattled President Dilma Rousseff Notice that it seems like the torch-extending action happened before that torch can recieve the flame... JMarkSnow2012
Notice that it seems like the torch-extending action happened before that torch can recieve the flame... The extending has to happen before the torch can be lit- but they seem to have decided that it should normally happen before the cameras start rolling. Also, while I'm niggling- my hope on 22 April that the sootiness of the upper part of the torch was just the result of the natural fuel of the original Olympia torch seems to have been dashed. Every torch looks grimy round the top by the time it gets to light the next one in the relay.

Which goes to prove that the torch-extension move is just a gimmick which doesn't really work in the flow of the Relay. Useless, unnecessary expense -- wasted effort. And even in museums, you won't see docents pulling apart and popping this torch. Truly gimmicky.

Non-professional footage is likely to provide our best views of it- as in the first of these two: ... whereas the second shows why it's much less practical than hoped ... That's why. And at least there haven't been the many burn-outs of the unwieldy 2014 torch.
