The 2016 torch relay should be international (Europe, Africa and South America) or national (only in Brazil)?!

Only national. After the 2008 Beijing Torch Relay that went worldwide with all the problems we know, the IOC decided that the Torch Relay would now only be national ! (in addition to the greek one from Olympia to Athens)

Brazil's big enough to pull off an epic relay. That said, so are China, and Russia, and the former went round the World, and the latter is going into space.

well....i think this should be the route: Greece, Portugal :P , Angola and Brazil....

Well, you may think so but the IOC has its eye on costs. I doubt that it'll make those other int'l stops. It just sets a precedent which they don't want to happen. Even the Brazil route is going to be on the scale of Vancouver 2010 and Russia's Sochi 2014. It's NOT easy planning those torch routes, you know, and more so in the matter of transferring flammable materials across int'l borders. The red tape is NOW horrendous in that regard.

yes....you´r probably right...but they (Brazilians) have the money to support. In Portugal we have a big brazilian community and strong links with Brazil...well, i can dream with the olympic torch in Lisbon :)

I back a South America torch relay...

We don't have problems with borders, and in the end, it's South America time...

You trust the torch going through Argentina??? They might steal it!

Sim....é o timming da América do Sul...mas podiam aproveitar quando a chama saisse da Grécia e fazer uma paragem em Portugal.... :D ....

National relay please. We all know the trainwreck that was the Beijing 2008 international relay. Besides, Brazil itself is already big enough to pull a long and good one.

The few seconds' exposure to run it thru the capitals of Bolivia or Ecuador or wherever else is just TOO expensive for the payback. I mean the people in those places would already know about the Olympics happening Brazil anyway and would still watch it. But the expense for Coca-Cola and the local committees would be too great. Also, the Tupamaros or the Sendero Luminoso might rally around it!!

I don't think it would happen, in this kind of event you have tons of security around the torch.

I'd be aware about photographers (like what happened in Copa America).

And, no doubts, some people will protest against UK, Brazil, the government, even against Kratk pro-Argentina bias near the torch relay circuit...

And, IMHO, torch relay in Argentina worths every cent...

I'd pay some money to see Argentine people faces during a torch relay of a Brazilian city Olympics...

Pretty amazing, uh???

I guess the IOC wouldn't mind a drop by in Lisbon with Belém Tower as a backdrop. The tower holds deeps meanings both to Brazil and Portugal and that would be too epic to miss. If the IOC were kind enough to allow visits to Luanda, Maputo, Bissau, Praia, Goa, Macau and Dili I'd be a happy man.

I think this would be great, but I also think IOC will not allow.

Happy as I would be with a torch stopover in Portugal for the very first time, I think Brazil should get the most of the relay. At best, a relay through some important South American points.

Maybe we should create a group to support this idea...would be great watch the olympic torch closer...and i think Lisbon needs something like this...but for now is just an idea and a dream...

For me this should be the 2016 torch relay: Olympia, Athens, Lisbon and BRAZIL!

And we have a strong brazilian community in Portugal :)

Considering the months of begging Dublin had to do with the IOC to get a couple of hours with the flame in ROI Ireland, I think the best the Rio relay can hope for internationally is some border ceremonies - Brazil has enough of them after all. Perhaps a visit to the Chile and Ecuador embassies as well, so symbolically the flame acknowledges South America. The success of the 2010 and 2012 relays have only persuaded the IOC that their decision to ban international legs was the right one.

Yes, i agree with you....but this is just an idea... ;) And maybe the IOC and ROCOG will give us a big surprise about the torch relay. We need to wait.

And if the flame visits Foz do Iguaçu, it should go to the Marco das Três Fronteiras, so it will not only symbolically visit Argentina, but also Paraguay.

I also expect the flame to sail the Amazon River on a typical indigenous boat.

Guys, no ROCOG, please... The Committee is called "Rio 2016" only.

ROCOG means really nothing.

^ Recall read some news taht the Rio' Committee named simply "Rio 2016"

but even IOC uses the acronym ROCOG sometimes

A large contingent from the Rio 2016 Organising Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games (ROCOG) will be stationed in the capital for the duration of London 2012 to help them in their preparations as hosts of the next Olympic Games.

IOC is using ROCOG as an informal name, there is no register for that abbreviation. All copyrights are being done to Rio 2016tm only...
