thatsnotmypuppy
I don't think anything of a Mexican YOG bid. My understanding is the Pan Ams were not that successful, the drug violence is escalating and the major cities are traffic choked and chaotic. Nonetheless if the security situation improves and you can guarantee some fresh air for the YOG rubbish - go for it. Lot of money to waste on an incredibly pointless event. Oh hang on - you did just host the Pan Ams. Too late on that front.
Victor Mata
Well, Guadalajara wasn't flawless but undoubtely a good Pan American Games with a nice fitting template for a Summer YOG and future PanAms for mid-sized cities. With almost everything in place 6 years in advance, it's theirs to lose IMO.
deawebo
Well the bidding city for the YOG will be Monterrey, which is think Guadalajara was a best choice since Jalisco is safer compared to Nuevo Leon... And Guadalajara has best infrastructure. Anyways i dont see higher possibilities than Guadalajara's past bid for 2014 YOG
olympic1982
Well, Pan Ams were proclamed as the best in all during the closing ceremony. Many of the ODEPA members (some of which are IOC members too) were happy, and the invited IOC membres too, such like Jacques Rogge. It is true that the are violence in Mexico, but in terms of security Pan Ams were succesfull. Not only one incident. Traffic in Guadalajara is certainly chaotic, but not very different that in London, Beijing or Athens, which have hosted the Big Games. Yes, lot of money in the event (for example check the videos and pictures on Youtube of the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, which were done by the same team that was involved in the opening of Salt Lake, Rio 2007, and London 2012), but I dont think is a pointless event considering that after Olympics is the second one largest in the world, and that are athletes from 40 NOC and there are visitants of almost all the IFs and olympic medallists at the event. . I didn't have high expectations for the Pan Ams (full venues, fan enthusiasm nice ceremonies), but I left feeling as if it were one of the best ever. Leaving the violence aside the Pan Ams are not waste event they are an Olympic qualifier for more then half the Olympic events. munichfan
Right now we got eight bids: Africa: RSA (most likely Durban) and Abuja South America: Medellín and Buenos Aires North America: Guadalajara Europe: Glasgow and a Swedish city Asia: Kaspiysk, Russia ...what's so special about the YOG? I mean there are eight bidders for the 2018 YOG and just five for the 2020 Summer Olympics.

baron-pierreIV
How many IOC members end up going to the Youth Games for a free trip? I don't know... do you? But wherever IOC members fly to attend or perform an official IOC function, their airfare anyway is covered by the IOC, so it's no skin off their back. Thus, I don't understand the thrust of your comment.

I just wanted to know how many IOC members actually went to these Games, that's all, and I thought you or anyone else might know. They vote for the host from their homes, I think. Just curious as to how many members took the Youth Games seriously enough to fly over for a visit for a free trip and to see friends.

I guess the more serious, ambitious ones...who probably know they score 'colleague, attendance points' by showing up at most of these events. But you could probably look at the IOC website. Sir Rols
FEI decision to withdraw World Cup final from Guadalajara blow to city's 2018 Youth Olympic hopes 11 - Guadalajara have been stripped of the 2015 FEI World Cup Jumping and Dressage finals because of financial problems, which could also undermine their bid to host the 2018 Summer Youth Olympic Games. The International Equestrian Federation's ruling Bureau withdrew the event from the Mexican city, which they had been awarded last June, because they were unable to meet in full the requirements imposed on them by the world governing body. The decision by the FEI is a massive blow to the creditability of Guadalajara, who are one of five bidders for the 2018 Youth Olympics, alongisde Buenos Aires, Glasgow, Medellín and Rotterdam There were already doubts over their ability to stage the event when the city was left with a debt of 399 million pesos (£19 million/$30 million/€24 million) after hosting the 2011 Pan American and Parapan Games. Guadalajara, Mexico's third biggest city located in the state of Jalisco, had been awarded the event by the FEI ahead of Las Vegas, who have now been contacted to see if they are still interested in hosting the finals. But if they are awarded the event it will be on condition of organisers fulfilling all the requirements. "The FEI truly appreciates the efforts that the Guadalajara organisers put in to try and meet all the requirements," said FEI secretary general Ingmar De Vos. "But as they were unable to fulfil them within the agreed timeline, the FEI Bureau was left with no choice but to withdraw the finals. "In spite of this set-back, we hope that the Mexican Federation will consider hosting a major FEI event in the future, as we are very keen to see a world-class equestrian event organised in the region."
