Not very much discussion of any sort here regarding the 2020 Olympics Bids. Is this mostly due to this being an English language board with candidate cities from Non-English countries? Or that there just isn't very much to say about the candidates?

Admittedly, looks a great deal like the Republican presidential field here in the U.S.--an also ran with establishment connections (Madrid/Romney), a reliable candidate with connections to the stronger Asian economies (Tokyo/Huntsman), candidates with long connections but also challenging finances (Rome/Gingrich), insurgent candidates who are attracting some attention but also some skepticism. Although that field's also less inspiring than it might sound. Not seeing a great deal of anticipation or engagement at this point.

Four years ago, the 2016 Boards were posting back and forth about political intrigue, changing plans, commitments, dates, evaluators, celebrity endorsements, renderings, etc. -- this year, we haven't even mentioned the evaluation trips or when they'll occur.

Time to just wait until the announcement of the 2013 vote?

There is still plenty of time. We did have a rather lengthy discussion about the shortlist around the time of the initial application deadline. It is kind of hard to discuss when websites or bid books are not public yet, and as you noted, no English speaking speaking cities are bidding.

I think it is just early in the process. The list of applicants just came about 4 months ago and some of the cities in the running haven't even presented their bid logos, let alone full details on what they plan on doing. Wait until May when the word comes out from the Quebec City meeting on what the shortlist will be. With the London Games heating up too, that'll get the boards cookin'. ;)
