baron-pierreIV Posted January 13, 2012 Report Posted January 13, 2012 I just can't believe it! Due to "energy saving" the flames are no longer burning. (http://sport.orf.at/stories/2099474/20973/) well, it could melt the whole Tyrolean countryside and you'd have our Tulsa out there on a rampage!
afiqnadzir Posted January 13, 2012 Report Posted January 13, 2012 here you can watch hightlights of the opening ceremony: http://insider.orf.at/?story=6853 i hope the videos are working abroad.. still not working outside austria
munichfan Posted January 13, 2012 Author Report Posted January 13, 2012 i hope the videos are working abroad.. No, they aren't working. Dieses Video darf aus rechtlichen Gründen nur in Österreich wiedergegeben werden. Due to legal reasons this video is only available in Austria.
deawebo Posted January 13, 2012 Report Posted January 13, 2012 Nice Innsbruck i really like the 3 calurdobs concept the fact that the flames will not be burning () its manilly cuz there are 3
Ikarus360 Posted January 13, 2012 Report Posted January 13, 2012 A disastrous feed (you could only watch it in Austria), a seemingly boring ceremony, the cauldrons not burning inmediatly after the ceremony to "save energy"... Not a good start for these games if you ask me. I'm frustrated that i couldn't see anything.
DesmondChan Posted January 14, 2012 Report Posted January 14, 2012 Nice one... they probably realised some tests a few days ago ! The questions, now is... will they keep the third cauldron after the Games ???? (by the way, if we have some members from Singapour, what did they do with the cauldron of the 2010 summer YOG ?) According to the previous source, it was now kept, and will be placed in new Singaore Sport Hub, which estimated to be completed by 2014.
Olympian2004 Posted January 14, 2012 Report Posted January 14, 2012 Bury the idea of staging Olympic Youth Winter Games, or even Olympic Youth Games at all. Simply bury it. I mean, they couldn't prove more that those Games are totally unimportant than by giving all people outside Austria not even the opportunity to watch the opening ceremony. And that happens in the year 2012, in the age of internet! They were not even capable of providing a livestream unblocked (at least for this single occasion) for all non-Austrians. Shame on them. The two German Olympic broadcasters ARD and ZDF treat the Olympic Youth Games appropriately -- namely by almost completely ignoring the Games. Only ARD mentions the ceremony on its sports website, the ZDF doesn't mention it at all. Needless to say that there won't be any TV coverage on German free TV from the Games. Olympic Youth Winter Games: Dead in the water.
Ikarus360 Posted January 14, 2012 Report Posted January 14, 2012 ^^ I tought people were already used to it
SwissO Posted January 14, 2012 Report Posted January 14, 2012 The official pictures of the Opening Ceremony are here : Wow.... don't know that I will propose a slideshow of the pics by just pasting a flickr link
munichfan Posted January 14, 2012 Author Report Posted January 14, 2012 Here are a few videos. Still the only ones on YouTube... http://www.youtube.c...h?v=suw2xMw9Iog (Christina Ager speaking the athletes' oath, only audio) (some fireworks, shot from outside the stadium)

Citius Altius Fortius Posted January 14, 2012 Report Posted January 14, 2012 that's the highlight of the ceremony ... das finde ich sympathisch - ich meine, dass sie sich "verhaspelt" hat - sie muss ganz schön aufgeregt gewesen sein... @ Querque, in what kind of sport is Christina Anger participating?

Olympian2004 Posted January 14, 2012 Report Posted January 14, 2012 Still hardly any footage out there on Youtube. Fantastic. But I found one video apparently taken by someone with a mobile phone of the cauldron lighting. And this must be the most anti-climatic cauldron lighting in Olympic history. No music, only lengthy announcements of the cauldron lighters and then even bad timing because the first two cauldron lighters light their cauldron before the announcements are over. Sorry, Innsbruck -- but this was not convincing, to say the least.
Citius Altius Fortius Posted January 14, 2012 Report Posted January 14, 2012 Alpine skiing. She won silver today. thanks intoronto1125 (by the way - my sentence was about that it makes her likeable when she got muddled during the oath - she must had been nervous)
Olympian2004 Posted January 14, 2012 Report Posted January 14, 2012 They could have staged such a big dramatic ending, bearing in mind that Innsbruck is the first triple Olympic host and is able to light three cauldrons. But this was totally botched, no drama at all. Even the nice idea of having Olympic champions of 1964 and 1976 light the respective cauldrons went down the drain.
