Didn't watch it as I don't think they should be out there, but heard McLaren screwed up Hamilton's pitstops AGAIN. This is becoming a joke!

Oz - Clutch and pitstop. 3-10 pts lost

Mal - Pitstop 3-10 pts lost

Chn - Gearbox 3-10 pts lost

Bah - Pitstops. 6-11 pts lost

On his consistent performances alone he should be comfortably leading the WDC, but the team continually screw up and have lost him a huge amount of points.

Do you like a race in France? I would be very happy if the German GP would be canceled.

Today was a very artificial race. No spectators, no atmosphere.

Since 2008 there wasn't race in France... But it was a popular race. But maybe since some years F1 was artificial.... I hope this race will be a success.

Struggling Ferrari reveal major redesign

_60018525_massamugello.jpg

...

The new Ferrari design makes the rear bodywork, in front of and between the rear wheels, much more tightly waisted than before.

It has the benefit of less bodywork obstructing the critical 'coke-bottle' area at the rear, where the bodywork sweeps inwards towards the back of the car.

It also moves the exhaust exits further into the centre of the car, abandoning attempts to gain an aerodynamic benefit from blowing them at the area where the rear wheels meet the floor in an attempt to 'seal' the diffuser and increase downforce.

All teams have been exploring different exhaust positions in an attempt to recover performance lost to the ban on exhaust-blown diffusers - last year's must-have technology, where teams boosted downforce by blowing exhaust gases along the rear floor of the cars even when the driver was off the throttle.

Alonso said the evidence of the first four races, in which cars with very different exhaust designs have been competitive at different times, suggested continuing to chase this area was a waste of time.

"It is not important any more which [exhaust] position you choose and how you manage the position," he said, adding: "I think this year we cannot lose even five minutes on this and there are bigger areas on the car we need to improve and we try to do it."

Alonso set the third fastest time on the final day of the Mugello test, despite an excursion off track in the morning which broke the car's front wing.

He ended up 0.328 seconds slower than pace-setter Romain Grosjean of Lotus. They were split by Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel.

Grosjean's fastest time was one minute 21.035 seconds - 0.232secs quicker than Vettel.

McLaren were the only team not to use their race drivers at the test, preferring to employ test drivers Gary Paffett and Oliver Turvey, instead of Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button.

Red Bull have an upgrade package for the Spanish Grand Prix, but in Mugello were focusing on set-up work with an aim to better understand the 2012 Pirelli tyres.

Lotus also focused on tyre assessment, as well as trying out some aerodynamic and suspension changes to the car.

Grosjean's time was set in the afternoon, when conditions were windier than the morning, when Vettel and Alonso set their fastest laps, although Alonso also got close to his best time later in the day.

Lotus were pleased with the performance of the car. Trackside operations director Alan Permane said they were "flying - it's really good to be able to do 21.0 in the windier afternoon".

Fourth race on the spin McLaren have completely fucked up Hamilton's race.

How can you underfuel a car in qualifying? I've got a pocket calculator, I'll take the job of whoever was meant to work that one out.

And 0.5 a second quicker than the rest, they didn't even need to get close to the margins with his fuel!

Complete incompetence from McLaren. Again.

However, the FIA penalty is also ridiculous, given that only Q3 was affected. A 5-10 place grid penalty would've been fair, not exclusion from qualifying.

Major fire breaks out in Williams garage after Spanish Grand Prix

1336924771.jpg

The Circuit de Catalunya pitlane had to be evacuated following the Spanish Grand Prix after a big fire broke out in the Williams garage.

The fire is initially believed to have been caused by an explosion in the area behind where the cars are worked on.

The pitlane was evacuated and firefighters and ambulances arrived at the scene. It is currently unclear whether there are any injuries.

Williams was still celebrating its first victory since the 2004 season, achieved by Pastor Maldonado moments earlier.

Force India's Otmar Szafnauer told Sky that one of his team's mechanics had been taken to the medical centre for smoking inhalation.

Williams said one of its mechanics was also in the medical centre, but was unsure about the injuries if any.

Lotus rule out Raikkonen rally return

Lotus team principal Eric Boullier has dismissed any notion of Kimi Raikkonen making a one-off return to rallying.

Raikkonen quit Formula One at the end of 2009 and spent two years fulfilling an ambition by competing in the World Rally Championship, albeit with limited success. That resulted in the 2007 world champion returning to F1 this season, signing up with Lotus in tandem with Romain Grosjean.

Raikkonen, however, recently remarked he would love to take part in his home rally in Finland one more time. However, Boullier said: "There was a journalist who asked him if he loves rally - yes. Would you love to do rally again? - yes. Would you love to do your home rally? - yes. There was nothing else, but contractually he cannot do it. End of story."

Notably, Lotus - known as Renault last year - allowed Robert Kubica to compete in a rally event prior to the start of the campaign.

The Pole, however, was involved in a horrendous accident which resulted in him requiring several operations, and it is almost certain he will never return to F1 again.

Recalling that, Boullier added: "Obviously there is a trauma here after 2011.

"But we can't have a contract with the drivers that has a clause that allows them to take any risk because they are so valuable to the team.

"So, rallying, skiing, whatever you want. It is not allowed."

So pleased for Lewis! He's deserved this the way he's driven this season. And nice of Red Bull and Ferrari to let him get two nice (but easy) overtakes in as well - the win wouldn't have been quite the same had they pitted at the right time! :D
