arwebb
£200 million of public money, plus £100 million from sponsors and £300 million from the National Lottery to fund elite athletes. About bloody time! The Chancellor has also announced a series of schools Olympics, starting in Glasgow this summer, for school children from all across the UK, as well as a new £34 million National Sports Foundation based on the model pioneered by the Football Foundation. Like I said, at least he did something right.
Mainad
This is the Chancellor's first budget since London was awarded the Games last July,so I think this was always going to be the most likely time for him to announce his financial aid packet. I just hope that all this money will be invested wisely over the next six years and be sufficient to provide us with a bumper crop of medal-winning athletes to do our country proud by the time London 2012 gets underway!
arwebb
We can only hope. At least he listened to the stick he got after not saying anything on the issue in the autumn.
