£200 million of public money, plus £100 million from sponsors and £300 million from the National Lottery to fund elite athletes. About bloody time!

The Chancellor has also announced a series of schools Olympics, starting in Glasgow this summer, for school children from all across the UK, as well as a new £34 million National Sports Foundation based on the model pioneered by the Football Foundation.

Like I said, at least he did something right.

This is the Chancellor's first budget since London was awarded the Games last July,so I think this was always going to be the most likely time for him to announce his financial

aid packet.

I just hope that all this money will be invested wisely over the next six years and be sufficient to provide us with a bumper crop of medal-winning athletes to do our country proud by the time London 2012 gets underway!
