The first stop on the World Luge Cup was held at Whistler, the first Luge event since the 2010 games and the accident that claimed the life of Georgian Luger Nodar Kumaritashvili:

Next stop on the Luge World Cup is here in Calgary next weekend.

I was wondering about the event at Whistler, which start the athletes were going from, and this article confirms it:

They're still going from the lower starts. Men starting at the women's start, etc.

If anyone's in Calgary this weekend, why not check out some World Cup Luge action? I believe it's a free event. I think there's going to be a bunch of food trucks and stuff near the Finish line of the track. I was watching some of the doubles practicing this afternoon. The site is also hosting some World Junior Hockey events so you may see some of the international hockey teams getting in some ice time at the international rink as well. Busy week at the park.

I volunteered at the World Cup last weekend! I was already booked for a weekend in Whistler when I found out about the event. I worked one security shift in the podium/finish area, surrounded by too much hawtness. It was women's and the team event that day and I have to say the team event was AWESOME!

The uniform was a toque:

More photos from Whistler, mostly of the Olympic and Paralympic Plaza dolled up for the holidays, here.
