Mind you, who could overhaul such an imposing total of 408/5 posted by Sth Africa. Clearly making up for it's less than impressive display against India earlier in the week. NZ home at 152/9!!! A rare victory against Australia and claiming the Chappell Hadlee back for the first time in nearly ten years. Result puts NZ on top of Pool A, if just...and sets NZ on an easier path through the QFs as they have qualified. Not taking anything away from Australia with such proffesionalisim after being savaged by NZ in their batting innings to come back and reveal a new bowling star in Mitchal Starc. Tonight was once again racing the run rate % to Qualify...They didn't really need to be that careless. They could've got there comfortably in 30 overs instead of a near suicide mission which nearly came trumps at Edenm Park. Still reckon Australia are the team to beat...NEVER gonna write them off. I was getting a little sick of batting dominated huge blowup easy victories of teams in this tournament so far, so it was fantastic to have a tight battle. Both teams fudged their batting, but a great result. Geees, still can't help dislike the Aussie cricket team though hey, except Shane Watson - I'll have him. And yet again, the big crowd does it again, well done Auckland for a great day. Australia is still dangerous and in (in an All Blacks at the world cup kind of way), still the team to beat , but so enthused about our bowling. But Sri Lanka are chased it down with a few balls remaining. England will have to hope for Bangladesh to drop it's average runrate in the last matchs towards the QFs. All of the Associate nations, particularly Ireland, have proven in this tournament that they deserve the chance to mix it with the Test playing nations. Instead of debating whether the ladder should be kicked away in four years' time, we should be doing everything possible to give these nations as many opportunities as possible to play the established nations more regularly. Thankfully, we have been doing something along the road in the last few years but much more needs to be done. Does the ICC want cricket at the elite level to be a truly global game or not? Alexjc Posted March 3, 2015 Report Share Posted March 3, 2015 Unfortunately 50/50 Cricket is not a 90min game. There is already criticism over the drawn out pool match series of four weeks. I guess it's really set up for Sub Continent viewers because no real effort has been make to use our multiple time zones. We could've had a triple match day(s) Auckland /Sydney /Perth as an example. That's when your minnow v minnow matches could be played, and those lopsided ones as well. Another would be to throw the newbies into their own circuit and then have them paired up with a top tier team in their season...That's was the whole idea for Tri Series cricket...But now we got IPL and Big Bash taking on the peak evening sports viewing. 20/20 may be the only way teams like Ireland, UAE and Canada can advance. There was no chance Afghanistan could chase that down...142 all out. Also in Napier, Pakistan v UAE...i.e. the other Pakistan Pakistan batting first puting up 329 but at least UAE made it to 210 untill running out of balls staying in for the full 50 overs. At the stop of play Pakistan were at 197/5 in the 40th over. South Africa yet to bat. Ireland into bat first at Bellerive Oval...so far 80/2 against Zimbabwe. Pakistan trounced South Africa who were left chasing 231 on the D/L rain adjusted total but could've easly succeeded if they didn't run out of wickets 202 all out. In Hobart, Ireland has cemented a spot in the QFs after rolling Zimbabwe for 326...unable to overhaul 331 in a cliffhanger at Bellerive Oval.
