2015 IRB Rugby World Cup

Recommended Posts

Didn't Sir Alex decide he didn't want Old Trafford to be used when they were deciding the venues, so Man Utd pulled away from hosting? I think if that hadn't happened there might be a better spread.

:(

The 2013 Rugby League WC was played there and the pitch got torn up badly.

All Blacks and England played there in the late 90s and the same thing happened. Furgesson whinged and moaned about it back then as well.

A few bits of Rugby World Cup Music for you.

First up, the official All Blacks Supporters song - *Team, Ball, Player, Thing*

This one also doubles as a charity single for the All Blacks official charity - *Cure Kids* and their campaign to help cure Battens Disease.

It features a few All Blacks as well as a top lineup of NZ musicians (Daniel Beddingfield, Flight of the Concords, Lorde, Six 60, Hollie Smith, Jason Kerrison, Avalanche City, Brooke Fraser, Savage, Broods, Boh Runga, Gin Wigmore, Dave Dobbyn, The Naked and Famous, Shihad and a few others).

Like the Concords previous charity single, the lyrics are all sourced from talking to 6 year olds.

If you've got time watch the full 15minute skit and vid

Or just the music video

Must say, Ryan Crotty is looking pretty good in this one.

Next, the NZ Song for RWC 2015, *I See Fire* from Sol3 Mio.

As for the Rugby World Cup Anthem - *World in Union*, Paloma Faith will be singing the 2015 version. I don't think it's been released yet though.

In the mean time, we'll revisit World in Union from New Zealand 2011. The official version performed by Hayley Westenra, but a unique version performed in the opening ceremony by Ria Hall.

My RWC 2015 predictions for the first time ever here

POOL A

1. England
2. Australia
3. Wales
4. Fiji
6. Uruguay

POOL B

1. South Africa
2. Samoa
3. Scotland
4. USA
5. Japan

POOL C

1. New Zealand
2. Argentina
3. Tonga
4. Namibia
5. Georgia

POOL D

1. France
2. Ireland
3. Italy
4. Canada
5. Romania

(there really should be a Round of 16 with the top 4 in each group advancing. Maybe if it expands to 24 teams someday)

Quarterfinals
England over Samoa
South Africa over Australia
New Zealand over Ireland
Argentina over France

Semifinals
England over South Africa
New Zealand over Argentina

Third Place
South Africa over Argentina

Final
England over New Zealand
(Pretty even if you ask me. Won't be surprised if the All-Blacks win again. Chose England because history is against RWC repeat champs)

Another thing: Heard some very bad things regarding the upcoming 2015 RWC Official video game. Based on the graphics I saw for one thing, it does look dated. Get Rugby Challenge 3 instead; all you get here with RWC 2015 are the 20 teams with several of them unlicensed. No qualification round games. No nations that failed to qualify included with all of the games like Russia, Spain, Portugal, Ivory Coast, Brazil, Germany, The Netherlands, Poland, Czech Republic, Hong Kong, Zimbabwe, Morocco, and South Korea. Say if you try to get one of them to England/Wales. Not even the historic teams.

Poor old Twickenham, the ugliest of the major UK stadiums.....it'll never look great, no matter how many pink and green banners you plaster on it

BUT WE'RE READY!

ENGLAND v FIJI - 8pm tonight

And as Clive Woodward pointed out this morning, bonus points for teams who score more than 4 tries, so that'll be England's aim tonight to get an early edge in a really tough group.

:) Twickers - Fugly outside, awesome inside, where it matters.

I expect England to win tonight.

I'm not even fussed about the All Blacks untill the Quarter Finals.

 I'm focussing on Pool A the "Pool of Death". Unfair BUT totally worth it!

Australia should just edge out England to lead the pool...But the best clash will be Wales v England.

:D

Agreed on Twickenham. You would think the exterior would undergo a serious exterior facelift for this RWC with all the money invested in the whole process to get it in England/Wales. Do expect England to win this convincingly tonight. Let us know about the Opening Ceremony later tonight.

Am enjoying the opening ceremony at the moment. Really looking forward to this Tournament, but for the Pool Matches I am really looking forward to the Pool of Death and who wins out of there. I think it will be Australia and England. Go the All Blacks!

England opens the WC with a 33 - 11 victory over a gutsy Fiji who really held England back for 70 minutes.

Fiji were gutsy. Its a start for England who will need to keep building through the tournament...

Sad and disappointed to see the UK press tear apart last night's opening match. No leeway for first night nerves.

Also a TV commentator has been cited for offensive comments after he said all the local villagers standing around the one TV to watch.

Still...Nothing on what Australian commentators dole out.

But is that actually offensive if it's true? Because the last football world cup the US commentators said something similar along those lines on a regular basis, especially when Boko Haram (I think it was him) went and had his organization bomb certain places where people gathered to watch the games.

I know I should laugh at Canada's abysmal performance since the US won't fair any better, but LMFAO!!!

*I know I shouldn't laugh

Canada handily beat the USA in a two game series to qualify, so no I wouldn't laugh either.

Japan has beaten South Africa! Stunning victory for the Japanese.
