2015 IRB Rugby World Cup

Recommended Posts

I think the all blacks will take the final. There are a lot of Aussies who skipped training yesterday. The All Blacks have been the best team so far. They are a well oiled machine and this is one game they will get up for it. They wont take Australia lightly either.

New Zealand is a far better prepared team than 2011...for a final. Still, as my scratched record all over GB forums repeats over again, you write Australia off at your own peril unless the final whistle is blown and your team has more points on the board than them. Australia plays to win even when that hope is long gone. They never give up.

I don't think anyone is writing Australia off, I'm definitely not and wouldn't be surprised if they come away with the win.

I think the All Blacks have had almost the perfect world cup in terms of building and building, but Australia has had a decent (all be it lucky, but luck is what you create I guess) one.

Gees though, the Australian media are certainly wee gems aren't they. :/

As for the Final...This is expected to be most likely the best if Wayne Barnes keeps his flag to himself and let's Nigel Owens run the teams ragged.

We have seen the great finals hoped for -

Eng v Aus = Aus 1991

SAF v NZL = SAF 1995

Aus v Eng = Eng 2003

Eng v SAF = SAF 2007

...apart from this Saturday's match up, the last to be played is...Aus v SAF, a most likely event in 2019 going by current growth form.

Im not writing the Aussies off either. Anyone that does will do it at their peril. The All Blacks certainly aint. I just think the All Blacks have the edge over Australia and will win if they both play to the best of their ability. Its going to be an epic final! Go the All Blacks.

:):(:)BRONZE FINAL today...

ARGENTINA v SOUTH AFRICA.

I'm sure both teams would've rather gone home on Monday...

There really is no point in playing the dreaded "has beens" match as teams now qualify for the next Cup from 3rd place up in the Pools.

Had more meaning when only 3rd, 2nd, and 1st place qualified. The then IRB changed the criteria for 2003 onward.

There was talk of scrapping the game for this tournament, but World Rugby has procrastinated...There were plans for a Sevens styled Bowl and Shield finals, but nothing came of it.

Still...Treating it as part of the make up games for the Rugby Championship (cut short for RWC year)...playing for pride in the lower top four. :)

Not entirely sure though of an All-Blacks RWC win on Halloween against the Wallabies. I agree: never rule out Australia all through out the final, especially when the chips are down. Early on, it sure seemed that Australia is the runaway fave for the title. But based on what I read and seen, New Zealand certainly got the better momentum coming in now and wants to be the first RWC repeat champ. Pulling for Australia, though I wouldn't be mad with New Zealand winning.

This is bound an instant classic in the annals of the Australia-New Zealand sports rivalries, not just rugby. An Antipodean sports fans' dream.

Half Time at Olympic Stadium in the BRONZE FINAL.

SOUTH AFRICA 16 v Argentina 0

Springboks slowly using their more composed form of rugby to advantage blocking the Pumas' attempt at breaking the SA defense.

BRONZE FINAL

Three quarter mark...the point of no return ...

Massive Donnibrook...Latin tempers flaring up. South Africa pulling away.

Victor Matfield comes off for the last time...end of an era in SA rugby.

South Africa 24 v Argentina 6

BRONZE FINAL...Full Time

SOUTH AFRICA 24 - Argentina 13

A well earned consolation try in full time to the Pumas gave them a respectable losing score. The future of Argentina rugby very secure.

However the night belongs to the battle weary Springboks who soaked up everything the Pumas threw at them...including the odd punch.

Worthy BRONZE medalists. Considering the humiliation of losing their first match to Japan....

...So now, one more match to go:

Only about 10 hours to go until the Rugby World Cup final. Getting nervous now. Its going to be a big morning in New Zealand. Today we have learnt that someone has bet $400,000 on the All Blacks to win the world cup. That is the biggest bid in New Zealand betting history. The biggest since betting was legalised in 1961.

Go the All Blacks!

Yeah...a 400k bet. You just want the ABs to lose with such arrogant boasting.

Still. A long night ahead and noticing the bars and restaurants beginning to fill up.

Try on halftime.

Milner-Scudder.

NEW ZEALAND 16 - Australia 3.

What an excellent match by both sides and just the same with the ref!

So far they have saved the best for last.

Still 40 to go and although behind... Australia still in it, although they do look battered a bit.

The best final will always be November 22, 2003 but I am biased in that regard.

In the end, a terrific final. I feared a hammering at 21-3, but Australia showed tremendous character to get so close. For New Zealand to then take it away so emphatically at the death just shows how special a team this is.
