2015 IRB Rugby World Cup

Recommended Posts

:mellow:Have to admit, and thanks in no small part to the TMO/Ref calls, the lack of flowing rugby has been terrible. Overall, apart from SAF v JPN, hasn't really fired in the first full week...

Hoping the two top end clashes today light up the place...If the refs can handle their own decision making.

:):(:) First match of the day completed...Oh so close...

ITALY 23 - Canada 18.

A good effort from "Middos" Canada to take on a first tier team and hold on all the way to the end.

 Now the first of the BIG BOY clashes

South Africa v Samoa.

Both teams needing everything to win.

And the Pacific team not getting it, this time.

SOUTH AFRICA 46 - Samoa 6...

Resuming normal broadcasting.

The Yaarpies on top of their pool for the first time and most likely to stay there.

Meanwhile in Twickenham....

:D What a battle!

Unbelievable game. I'm a (rare) Wales-supporting Englishman (I know, long story ) so it couldn't have been better. Dan Biggar...what a pressure kick. So now England, keep those chariots swinging because I still want you through - but play a bit more like you did in that 6 Nations last game, yeah? You can do it, you have done it - you'll be a lot more liked by everyone :)

Oh.......arse.

:) Excellent use of "The Fast Show" terminalogy there Rob.

Still head of the News over here...can't understand how a strong England with everything going for them, just stall in the second half. And Wales decimated with injury. Yet they were so fired up

Oh and I hope those two South African supporters who invaded the pitch are deported.

:):) Ayeyeyeye...Golden try fest in Birmingham...

AUSTRALIA 65 - Uruguay 3...

Probably the best team at this tournament finally firing up a showing everyone else how it's done. On top of the Pool of Death as well, and next up for them...England.

At least it isn't as bad like when the Wallabies infamously crushed Nambia in 1999 at the Adelaide Oval 124-0...

A couple of forgotten results...

27/9...

SCOTLAND 39 - USA 16

States giving Scotland a bit of a hurry up to begin with but were eventually ground down...Scotland now looking forward to their clash with South Africa on Saturday.

IRELAND 44 - Romania 10

Largest RWC attendance ever at 89 900.

Ireland fancied to be the top Six Nations team at this tournament.

Today:

TONGA 35 - Namibia 21.

The bottom of the table clash, both teams really not in it anymore...but great to see Namibia piling on points for respectable loss results.

Namibia's best chance to get its first win in RWC history now lies with a date versus Georgia. Even that's going to be tough for them. Forget Argentina.

The USA put up a good effort with Scotland. But like with past RWCs involving the Americans, they just don't quite have enough quality to make onto the upper echelon. Even if Todd Clever was on the team right now. It will take years and deepening the talent pool further.

Hard work in the Pool of Death today...

WALES 23 - Fiji 13.

Wales now with one foot in the QF door but really had to work hard against the determined Fiji who would've been desperate to take 3rd in pool for easy 2019 qualification.

...And...

FRANCE 41 - Canada 18

The perennial darkhorse gaining a critical bonus points win over it's once fair chunk of North America colony.

Somehow rather France and NZ have a date with destiny at Cardiff...:o

I dunno how England are going to handle the pressure on Saturday night. Not writing them off though as their recent history playing Australia is in their favor.

If Australia beats them but England scores four or more tries...then they scrape through on the good chance that Wales can't beat Australia. England winning with the extra bonus point will take the pressure off somewhat.

Wales may regret not getting that extra bonus point over Fiji.

New Zealand will most likely follow France into the Quarters tonight unless something phenomenally stupendous happens...which seems to be occurring a lot at this tournament.

There's more excitement here in NZ over tonight's super clash in Twickenham than what the All Blacks are up to in boring Pool C.

On of the rarest events in NZ actually supporting an Australian side more than whoever else they are playing.

IMHO Australia will scrape home a tight win if they do. No bonus points.

England will come out all guns blazing and will win using it's Scrum and kick it's way out of trouble.

A Try fest is on offer if Australia can open up the easy to crack England defences.

Unlike their obnoxious Cricket team, the Wallabies are the quiet achievers (along with France and Ireland) at this tournament...

:) Battle for Pool B!!! Game One...

JAPAN 26 - Samoa 5.

Well done Brave Blossoms.

Have now actually qualified for the 2019 tournament even though they go through as next host nation. Gives Japan more credability as a growing Rugby nation instead of have the jibe "you are only in because you are hosts" hanging over them.

Great effort.

Meanwhile a battle royal is taking place in Newcastle -

South Africa v Scotland for top positioning.
