The fixtures for the final round of CONCACAF qualifying for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™ are now set, following the Official Draw in Miami, USA on Wednesday 7 November. The final six-team group, also known as the Hexagonal, will be played over ten matchdays between February and October 2013.

Jurgen Klinsmann’s USA begin their campaign with a tricky road test in Honduras on 6 January at San Pedro Sula’s Estadio Olimpico, the very same ground where the Catrachos dismantled Canada 8-1 in their last qualifying game.

After a very exciting third round in the CONCACAF qualifiers we are very much looking forward to the last stage to begin.

FIFA's Gordon Savic

The good news for the Americans is that they avoid a midsummer trip to Mexico’s steamy Estadio Azteca. Instead, they will travel to their arch-rivals from south of the border in their third game on 26 March.

“We’ve got to go to places like Panama, Costa Rica and Honduras with the mentality that you are spot-on once you get on the field,” said Klinsmann. “I think that if the players are aware of that like they were the last two, three games, when they got the job done, then we will also qualify for Brazil in 2014.”

Reigning CONCACAF and Olympic champions Mexico, who finished the semi-final round of Brazil 2014 qualifying with a perfect record in their six games, open their Hexagonal account against Jamaica in Mexico City.

Central American giants Costa Rica meet neighbours Panama in Panama City in their first game.

“After a very exciting third round in the CONCACAF qualifiers we are very much looking forward to the last stage to begin,” said FIFA Head of World Cup and Olympic Qualifying Gordon Savic, who was on hand for the event in the US state of Florida.

The top three finishers from the final round will qualify automatically for the FIFA World Cup in Brazil, while the fourth-place finisher will play off home and away against a team from the Oceania zone.

Switzerland coach Hitzfeld banned for 2 qualifiers

ZURICH (AP) -Switzerland coach Ottmar Hitzfeld was suspended for two World Cup qualifying matches on Tuesday for making an offensive gesture at the referee during a match.

FIFA said Hitzfeld breached rules on "offensive behavior'' during a home qualifier against Norway on Oct. 12.

The veteran German coach is barred from working at Group E leader Switzerland's next two qualifiers, which are both against last-place Cyprus.

"This decision cannot be appealed and is therefore final and binding,'' FIFA said in a statement announcing its disciplinary panel's ruling.

FIFA ordered Hitzfeld to pay a 7,000 Swiss francs ($7,450) fine plus 1,000 Swiss francs ($1,060) in costs for the disciplinary process.

Swiss media published images of Hitzfeld making a hand gesture in the first half of a 1-1 draw against Norway in Bern.

Hitzfeld later expressed his frustration at decisions made by Spanish referee David Fernandez Borbalan.

Switzerland is unbeaten in qualifying and leads its group by three points from Norway after four of 10 matches.

The Swiss travel to face Cyprus on March 23, and host the return match on June 8.

Hitzfeld has coached Switzerland since 2008 after an illustrious club coaching career that began in his adopted country.

He returned to Germany and won the Champions League in 1997 with Borussia Dortmund and in 2001 with Bayern Munich.

Hitzfeld joins Ernst Happel (Feyenoord, Hamburger SV) and Jose Mourinho (FC Porto, Inter Milan) as the only coaches to lead different clubs to become European champion

Zico resigns from Iraq post over breach of contract

Iraq coach Zico has announced his resignation over an alleged breach of contract.

The former Brazil captain lasted just over a year in the position, winning eight out of 19 matches at the helm of the Lions of Mesopotamia.

"I would like to announce via this website that at noon on Tuesday I sent a communication to Fifa and to the Iraq Football Association declaring that I consider my contract to be void due to the IFA's failure to honour the terms of my contract," Zico wrote on his official Twitter account. "I will provide further details shortly."

Rumours of Zico's departure have spread in recent weeks, with some reports linking him with a departure as far back as September.

Iraq are currently in third place in Asia's Group B with five points from five matches, trailing leaders Japan and second placed Australia. They lead Oman, who have also five points, on goal difference, and Jordan who hold just four points.

The top two countries from Groups A and B will automatically advance to Brazil, while the teams in third place from each group advance to a play-off that concludes with Asia's fifth-place team playing their South American equivalent for the right to participate in the finals.

Iraq denies interest in Maradona as coach of national soccer team

Iraq has no interest in Diego Maradona. The Iraqi Football Assn. denied media reports Friday that it was negotiating with Argentine soccer legend Maradona to coach its national team.

“There is no negotiation between Iraqi Football Assn. with Diego Maradona and it doesn't have any intention to hire him,” deputy IFA head Abdul-Khaliq Masoud told the Associated Press.

On Thursday, several media outlets quoted Argentina soccer official Hernan Tofoni that the IFA was expected to meet Friday and complete an offer to Maradona.

Maradona was fired as Argentina's national coach after the team was eliminated in the 2010 World Cup quarterfinals.

Former Brazil great Zico resigned as Iraq coach last month.

FIFA punishes Bulgaria, Hungary for racial abuse with fines, orders games without fans

ZURICH — FIFA fined Bulgaria and Hungary around $40,000 each on Tuesday and ordered them to play a World Cup qualifier in an empty stadium after fans aimed racist and anti-Semitic abuse at opposing teams.

The punishments were announced as players and anti-discrimination groups demand a tougher response to fan actions at stadiums, including in Italy and Serbia.

“FIFA strongly condemns all forms of racism in football, and any form of discrimination will not be tolerated and will receive a strong response by the relevant FIFA authorities,” world football’s governing body said in a statement.

FIFA fined Bulgaria $38,000 and Hungary $43,400.

Bulgaria fans made monkey chants at Denmark defender Patrick Mtiliga, who is black, during a World Cup qualifier in Sofia on Oct. 12. Bulgaria, which is in the same group as Italy, will play in an empty stadium on March 22 when it hosts Malta.

Hungary fans directed anti-Semitic slogans and reportedly displayed Iran flags to insult Israel at an Aug. 15 exhibition in Budapest. Hungary’s punishment applies when neighboring Romania visits on March 22.

FIFA was helped by the European fans’ network FARE, which sends anti-discrimination monitors to high-risk matches.

However, FIFA declined to take World Cup qualifying points from either team as its disciplinary code allows. It could have hampered the teams’ chances of advancing to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. Bulgaria and Hungary are in second place in their respective groups, which would be enough to earn a place in the European playoffs in November.

Well, Montenegro won a spot in Euro 2012 playoffs and lost to Czech Republic... So now it isn't that surprising, they are a good team. (For the record, England wasn't able to beat Montenegro in Euro 2012 qualy)

Not really ^ . Former country Serbia & Montenegro qualified for the 2006 World Cup. But as a country standing on its own yes, first time

Yeah but that team back then was a trainwreck (making almost no points in 2006) and most of the players are not on the current one anymore (also due to the splitting of Serbia and Montenegro). However this one is surpassing no one else than England, and like deawebo said, they almost qualified to Euro 2012.

And IKarus360 I like Froakie as ur display pic ^_^

Thanks :)
