The Ataköy (ata-köy = father-village) is a huge quarter in the BAKIRKÖY (copper-village) district. This cluster is the closest cluster to the Atatürk Aiport. The Aiport, Ataköy Cluster and the historicle penunsula downtown are already connected via LRT-metro line. This cluster is destined as a cluster for an eventually Olimpic Games, as the the Turkish National Olympic Committee (NOC - TMOK) is established here; Also called the Olympic House. In total 3 venues are build here. The biggest Basketball tempel 'Sinan Erdem Dome' and the Olympic Pool (later use for waterpolo) plus a 7.500 seater indoor mutli-use sports-hall are integrated in this cluster.

This is the maquette of the Ataköy cluster. The 7.500 multi purpose indoor hall is momently beeing construct by for the Iaaf Athletics World Indoor Championships in 2012. The Olympic Pool you are seeing at the picture was the host for the 1999 European Swimming Championships. There will be build a totally new Aquatic Center, hereby this pool will be used for the waterpolo matches. Actually I'm sure of it as in the previous bids this was indicated and informed as the waterpolo venue. Venue is in place, but It will be fourbished and renovated finally. (There are rumours .. indicates to build a transparant roof over it. But not sure of it at the moment

I hope head of our Bid also uses this Cluster for sailing, triathlon, beach volleyball and marathon swimming. Because they planned it in Asian side at 2008-2012 bids which absurd and those venues will be far faaaar away from village and olympic park if they make that stupid decision. Now they rebuild Ataköy beach and it can host all those shore events and there is an existing marina which can be expanded for the games and can create a good legacy after the games.

Here you have the animated promo video about the "Sinan Erdem Dome" ; The Queen of the Basketball Tempels in Turkey and Istanbul.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mm2SQGB6A1U

This video was produced before the FIBA World Basket 2010 organization. Istanbul was together with Doha candidate for the 2010 World Indoor Athletics Championships. The IAAF awarded respectively (at the same time) 2010 to Doha & 2012 to Istanbul. With this double awarding, IAAF followed her politics to spread the organization world-wide.

But when the Directorate for youth and sports (before Turkey had a Sports Ministery) decided to tranform this multi-sport event hall into a Basketball Temple, the need was born to build a totally new multi-use sports event hall for the indoor athletic championships in 2012. At the picture in the previous message you can see the rectangular building destined for athletics (and other sports)

For most citizens it was a big question what to do with the Athletic Championships when 'Sinan Erdem Dome' was totally rebuild inside about the fix tribunes. This caused a problem that the tribunes were not removable afterwards to enlarge the middle section of the Dome. But with the new venue this problem is solved and the City AND country has now a decent state of the art (Basketball and other sports behalf of indoor athletics) venue.
