Rio de Janeiro 2016 Ceremonies

Recommended Posts

So which themes do you think they will use in the ceremony to present brazil to the world?

Greece used math, philosophy, theater.

China had the compass, moving typewriter, etc.

London went for the industrial revolution and the internet.

Can brazil try to claim airplanes? What else?

Pao de queijo and brigadeiro? ;)

My bet:

Caipirinhas

Escort Girls

Telenovelas

Guns & Drugs

Favelas

why is he required to write positive stuff about rio?

it was a joke and a funny one. chill out.

Don't see the fun of joking about a serious problem that makes people die everyday. But who cares about guns and drugs in Latin America? After all, that happens so you can smoke your pot in New York...

Yes, it was a joke, but it wasn't funny at all... Well, whatever. Doesn't matter if you weren't the messed up, right?

fyi, i'm brazilian too. and i am not a drug user, if that's what you think. so don't go around accusing other people. show a little respect, please, i am sure you are capable of it. as a brazilian, you should learn to take a joke, too. it will help you in your future.

moving on, one can not deny that all those elements are associated with brazil and the city of rio. and given the recent turn around in violence (the so called "pacification" projects), it is very likely that favelas will be a part of the ceremony. maybe a transformation segment.

allthough i don't like to idea of focusing too much on rio and too little on the rest of the country.

É incrível que vc não faz um post que presta sobre o Rio...

Português invejoso.

That's a joke, right? Why would I be jealous of Brazil? We have a lot more safety, standard of living, etc etc.

It was a joke, for a country with many problems and inequalities, you are very sensitive to criticisms. Relax, life is just two days, carnival is three.

I'm not saying that you're a drug user, it was a general you referring to Americans (I thought you were from New York), that are the top drug consumers in the world... And again, I just didn't see the fun about your joke, so I don't need to take it.

We have a lot more safety, standard of living, etc etc.

And a lot more debt too...

Big enough to found and colonize a country twenty times its size ;)

And smart enough to lose it, subsequently returning to its insignificance...

Don't know why I'm discussing this. I mean... the Portuguese standard of living is the worst in Western Europe. Its HDI is the same of Chile. ^_^

still way better than brazil, as for our standard of living, that's due to several factors including 50 years under a dictatorship and no natural resources. While Brazil has an abundance of natural resources, what's its excuse?

Maybe, 300 years of exploration?

Do not feed the trolls. Portugal needs attention. That's the only reason for this childish attack. It comes from a grumpy, jealous (probably unemployed) kind of person that Portugal is so full of now since the crisis officially put them on their knees. They're an economically (and somewhat culturally) irrelevant country since long time and need either to bully someone or cling to past glories - that's the country which bore Sebastianism.

And this is a linguist issue also. Brazil is the place in which our language flourished in such vibrant and diverse ways. And it's because of Brazil, not Portugal, that the portuguese language reached far away cultures and the former colonies of Portugal. We don't deny their influence, but we rebuilt the harsh colonial heritage that plagues the country to this day and turned it into something new and young. And we know that nice people form Portugal are proud and happy that we'll have an Olympics in our language for the first time.

Portugal establishes colonies on all continents, but its because of brazillians that they speak portuguese not the portuguese people that settled those places? Funny joke

Just so you know, I am self employed in an established business and I have several brazillian clients who were forced to come to Portugal because they weren't earning enough money in brasil. We may be passing through a bad time in terms of public finances, but we are hardly on our knees, we don't have favelas, we don't need to send the army into our worst neighbourhoods just so they calm down. If Brasil is in a so much better place why is that we have hundreds of bars filled with brazillian women selling their company to men in exchange for money?

That's the legacy of exploration your country left wherever it touched. And I must say that many of the most corrupt elite and dirty politicians of this country are very proud of their racist ancestors from your country. And guess what, portuguese are flocking here to find jobs and better opportunities. Too bad they aren't nice looking enough to be prostitutes. But Portugal is England's b***h for centuries, so you got that covered. And you're just a jealous troll to come and bash other people's country when nobody said a word about yours.

that ended almost 200 years ago, enough time to develop the country into an world power, still nowhere near that. In this day and age Brazil should have been way more advanced soccially, culturally and economically than it is.

Yeah, you're right. It's the same time that Portugal begun its decline to the level of insignificance. But after the Independence, we had an absolutist rule by Portuguese monarchs from 1822 to 1889, then a dictatorial period from 1930 to 1945 and, finally, a military dictatorship that ruled Brazil from 1964 to 1985 (more recent than the Portuguese dictatorship you mentioned, which ended 40 years ago).

You must know that in geopolitical and economic terms, Brazil is currently considered a world power by several analysts and academics. Brazil is also the country that most reduced poverty in the past decade, being the first nation to fulfill - with 5 years of advance - the UN millennium goal of reducing poverty by half until 2015. Most of the recent economic prosperity and social development were only possible after the end of that military dictatorship. The Brazilian culture is way more recognized than yours, like its music, which constantly tops the Portuguese charts (while we've never heard of a Portuguese musician).

Well, it's Brazil that one of the fastest-growing countries in the world and is going to host every major event in this decade. Is good to know that I'm living in a nation with perspective for the future, without fear of austerity measures, unemployment and skyrocketing debt...

Only a Brazilian team can truly envision Rio and Brazil to the world, the same team that produces the Rio handover I suppose.

Really depends on the structure of the ceremonies I guess.

Jack Morton Worldwide did a great job producing Athens 2004, of course the creative team was Greek.

I am guessing it will be the same with this maybe.

Never know though, Australians did a fantastic job with Canada, New Zealand and Qatar.
