Yes, belly dancers and samba, that would be amazing! Well, it would be nice to involve them. No. Beijing's came to about $140 mil -- total. Rio's, per the bid book, has a $125 mil budget for Ceremonies (but remember that includes 2 sets of Ceremonies, 2 sets of Awards teams, 2 Handover shows. some costs for the Torch Relay -- and may include all the Image (Look) costs as has been bundled up in other Games (Salt Lake for example).) London's with belated additions, all came to $128 mil. Sochi I think, from an estimated $46 mil per the bid book, may -- and this is a wild guess going by what they did at Kazan -- end up costing double, I'd say at least $85 mil; and considering their bid cost up to $95 million. Does anyone here know the final price tag on recent opening ceremonies? This article also mentions that the general theme of the ceremony will of a "modern Brazil" and after the approval from the President (expected until the end of the year) an artistic director will be chosen to create the show. What do you guys think that could mean? What would you say would represent a "modern Brazil" in a Ceremony? The budget for the ceremonies at the London games (opening and closing) were about 81 million pounds (a little more than USD 126.5 million). According to Wikipedia, £ 27m was for the opening. Ikarus360 Posted September 9, 2013 Report Share Posted September 9, 2013 Hmmmm...I can imagine maybe some Taiko drumers on the stage, and a modern version of Japanese folk music with some traditional dances (and those "Iiiiouuuuuh" screams you hear in Kabuki shows) and showcasing a bit of Japanese world of technology (there were Taiko Drummers in a handover ceremony made after the final match of France 1998 WC). Perhaps the small nod to Sao Paulo would come in the end with kids from the Liberdade District doing something similar like the SLC 2002 handover in Nagano Closing (with the SLC kids in the screens saying "See you in Salt Lake City" and a group of japanese kids saluting them in the stage). It wouldn't be that bad. Dunno, really. Nagano ceremonies were probably one of the most simplest in the recent decades, but it was still elegant and solemn.
