Quaker2001 1276
What are your thoughts on the recent outburst of a Vegas 2020 bid? It seems like the bid committee did this the wrong way... About a week from now, we'll probably all have forgotten there even was a Vegas bid. Complete and total non-entity. Olympic Fan Darcy 323
Think its hilarious of them to even try to do it! I can imagine the USOC saying we dont agree with it so we gonna boycott it in there own country! (only joking, although would be funny)
baron-pierreIV 1700
This may have already appeared on SSC, but on the attached link is a rendering of how the Las Vegas Olympic stadium would've looked --like a twin to Durban's Moses...stadium. The image by itself won't reproduce. http://www.sbnation.com/soccer/2011/5/16/2173782/don-garber-las-vegas-mls-expansion Here's another one from SSC actually:
deawebo 77
This may have already appeared on SSC since that's where all the stadia fanboys are, but on the attached link is a rendering of how the Las Vegas Olympic stadium would've looked --like a twin to Durban's Moses...stadium. The image by itself won't reproduce. http://www.sbnation.com/soccer/2011/5/16/2173782/don-garber-las-vegas-mls-expansion Its the pretty much the same!! I know it's just a fantasy render, but it looks from that image like they were proposing a stadium locale right on the strip - that's down around Luxor way, isn't it? Well, I guess legacy wouldn't have been a problem. Just cover it over after the games and voila, you habe a new Olympic-themed casino!
paul 619
Luxor is just to the right, the strip which is out of shot would be just beyond the bottom of the frame.
Faster 545
Yea its Mandalay Bay (probably the closest Burma would ever come to an Olympics. That area isn't the best part of the strip

Yaknow, the Titanic-themed casino never got off the ground...so to speak.
FYI 1206
When "Vegas 2020" announced their intentions, didn't the intial article say that the "main Olympic complex" was suppose to be in the suburb of Henderson? And nothing was mentioned about the Strip, other than other sites "in the Las Vegas area". I would think that an Olympic Stadium right behind the strip would be a focal point of any proposed story. Unless this is just some fantasy render that's out there.
oakydoky 15
A Vegas Olympics is really appealing. I think they would be visually stunning. Of course, there's bigger American cities but I've got to admit, a Vegas games really does appeal. And those stadium renders looked pretty good. After the athletes have competed they can paaaartay! Also, getting ahead of myself, the opening ceremony could used imagery from the UNDER-APPRECIATED CLASSIC 'Showgirls' -- Crystal Connors could do a special Olympic dance number as Nomi Malone bumps 'n' grinds on stage. Aw well, it'll never happen but I really want it to. lol
