Rio 2016 Olympic Park

Just because we can't take three teams for beach volleyball :P

Galeria1-3367.jpg

I'm a bit against multiple entries from a country from a team event in the Olympics. Duos like with beach volleyball, however I might be a little bit more OK with. They allow it in bobsledding. I hate that the individual events and the all around events in gymnastics has the 2-per-country limit. If swimming and track and field allow for the possibility of a country sweeping the medals in a certain event, then gymnastics should be allowed the same.

Hopefully when the seating in the back of the velodrome is done it'll look less empty...

Olympic velodrome delivered to Rio 2016 but remains incomplete amid lingering concerns

Rio Mayor Eduardo Paes has belatedly delivered the Olympic Velodrome to Rio 2016 chief Carlos Nuzman, although work on the facility remains ongoing ahead of the Olympic Games.

The construction of the velodrome has been a major concern in the build-up to Rio 2016, with International Cycling Union (UCI) President Brian Cookson claiming in May that “time was running out” on the venue being completed.

The official test event at the venue was cancelled entirely in March due to delays installing the track.

It was initially supposed to be held between March 18 and 20 but was moved to between April 29 and May 1 before being scrapped entirely.

The test event, known as the Aquece Rio International Track Cycling Challenge, was supposed to be the first event held at the venue.

A replacement trial event got underway yesterday at the venue and is due to conclude tomorrow, in order to give the venue a "quick test".

The velodrome had been due to be presented to Nuzman yesterday, but work near to front of the building meant the inauguration was pushed back until today.

According to Globo, black and green cloths covered a large part of the venue in which work is still being completed, with journalists restricted to just one area.

“I liked, I thought it was good, I am satisfied,” International Olympic Committee executive director for the Olympic Games Christophe Dubi told Globo.

“There are still some details to be made, but the main, which is the part of the athletes is very good.

“We have Brazilians and Swiss athletes testing the track and we have had very positive feedback.”

The Velodrome has been the last venue to be handed over to Rio 2016 ahead of the Games, although concerns remain about its readiness ahead of the start of track cycling competition on August 11.

Last month, its was suggested that work was still required on the suspended ceiling system, as well as the heating and cooling system.

insidethegames was told in May that the base framework of the seating was still under construction, while media tribunes and elevators at the velodrome were also incomplete.

Engetecnica were contracted to help complete work at the Velodrome earlier this year, after the initial company in charge of the build, Tecnosolo, filed for bankruptcy.

It is very depressing compared to the project.

The design was beautiful, had color.Parque-Olimpico-Via-Olimpico.jpg

That's sad as hell. Rio is already a fail in my book.

The Olympic Park can be ugly on the outside.
But the arenas are very beautiful inside.

I don't think the aerial views look great, but from the ground the park looks fine and I like the Portuguese style tiling of the concourses. It'll be better once all the banners are up and people are milling about.

And as you say the venues look good from the inside. Though I might make an exception for the velodrome which looks dark and over-engineered.

These areas in orange and yellow in the park project, they will be painted before the games, or will get this 'depressing gray'?

Yes, the Velodromo was dark ... but we are fortunate the Velodromo have been ready in time.

-

The banners in the local competition, someone has pictures of how they will be?
London bet very purple and orange.
Rio will invest in green? Green is the only color?

Considering they have slashed the budget tremendously, I wouldn't be surprised if plans to paint the floor to resemble that of the original project plans have been scrapped. Or even if the banners were diminished. Painting the floor still doesn't do anything about the tremendous lack of natural greenery in the park. But I do hope they give the floor some color.

I suspect there are TV technicians out there having nightmares right now... especially with that volleyball court. Neon green is not the most TV friendly color.

The Maracanazinho digital projection with the Look of The Games is hideous.

They won't use that weird green on the volleyball court. It'll be the traditional colors.

Last Sunday, the city handed the Rio 2016 Committee the only facility that was missing, the Velodrome. In addition to this arena and Water Stadium, the Olympic Park is home to the Tennis Center, the Arena of the future, the three Arenas Cariocas, the International Broadcast Centre (IBC), the Main Press Center (MPC) and the hotel. In Tennis Center, the installation of temporary grandstands of 5000 seats arena is at an advanced stage. The facility will also house the paralympic tennis and football 5.

The Olympic Park was built by two partnerships. The Public-Private Partnership (PPP) between the city and the Rio dealership More, allows the construction and maintenance (for 15 years) the infrastructure of the Olympic Park, the Arenas Cariocas 1, 2, and 3, the MPC, IBC, the hotel and the infrastructure of the village of Athletes, which was also raised in Barra. To enable the construction of other facilities - Aquatic Stadium, Tennis Centre, Velodrome and Future Arena -, the city signed a technical cooperation agreement with the Federal Government. The Union contributed the resources and the municipality, through RioUrbe and Municipal Olympic Company, was responsible for the execution of works.
