Texas Posted July 22, 2013 Report Posted July 22, 2013 I can't stand Seacrest. Ugh. Neither can anybody else in America, except Fox and NBC. Quote
Durban Sandshark Posted July 22, 2013 Report Posted July 22, 2013 You do know he also takes up the mantle left by the great Casey Kasem on the radio every week with America's Top 40, which is broadcast around the world not just in the US and Canada? If he's there for Rio, which we should hope he's not for NBC, wouldn't it be funny to see him get schooled up on MPB? A music genre that will no doubt get popular as we get closer to Rio here in North America. But I'm with you here, Ryan Seacrest does not really belong with the Olympics partly because sports aren't his strength. Over to Italy, it was announced when SKY Italia and RAI will reteam for Sochi and Rio De Janiero that RAI 2 will handle the FTA realm of Rio "as the official Olympic network" with RAI Sports 1 and 2 covering large windows of the Rio Olympics with RAI 1 having the special events--gotta be both ceremonies in this case. mattygs Posted July 24, 2013 Report Posted July 24, 2013 The thing about the 10m loss for Sky in London, is that some people believed they were over ambitious in their television offerings. Yet, with their coverage of Glasgow, they certainly haven't scaled down - going with 6 channels. Surely it's just a waiting game for Sky to be announced as the broadcaster for Sochi and Rio, I don't see TVNZ having the money or desire to go for those Games. Quote

We are very pleased to have reached this agreement directly with STAR India.”Nitin Kukreja, Head of Sport Business for STAR India, said: “The Olympic Games remain the pinnacle of sporting achievement where the world's best in various disciplines face off for the title of Olympic champion. We value our partnership with the IOC and feel that this spectacular extravaganza can be taken to even greater heights in India on both television as well as on digital platforms.”The IOC launched the process for the sale of the broadcast and exhibition rights for territories within 24 territories in Asia on 10 June. Durban Sandshark Posted November 16, 2013 Report Posted November 16, 2013 RTP and Sport TV shares the Portuguese Rio 2016 Olympic TV rights with the state public free-to-air broadcaster RTP showing at least an unprecendented (RTP's standards) 200 hours live and recorded including both opening and closing ceremonies. It can go with RTP1, RTP2, RTP Informacao, and even its DTT channels. There's actually some misunderstanding, confusion, and conflict centering Sport TV's involvement and planned broadcasting. The Portuguese sports networks says the it's broadcasting the Rio De Janeiro Olympics too and thus holds the rights (mistakenly reported as exclusive)--I think it means exclusive Olympic pay-TV rights with major plans for special coverage towards the Portuguese Olympians in Rio. Sport TV plans to show around from 500-1500 hours (likely the latter). All started when the EBU no longer had the rights to buy the rights in much of Europe from the IOC with Sportfive currently doing that, and it can't reveal the details. Both TV entities plan to do this online, tablets, and smartphones along with TVs http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=pt&u=http://sol.sapo.pt/inicio/Sociedade/Interior.aspx%3Fcontent_id%3D90780&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dhttp://sol.sapo.pt/inicio/Sociedade/Interior.aspx%253Fcontent_id%253D90780%26biw%3D1429%26bih%3D987 http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=pt&u=http://www.ionline.pt/artigos/media-televisao-desporto/rtp-vai-transmitir-jogos-olimpicos-2016-canal-aberto&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dhttp://www.ionline.pt/artigos/media-televisao-desporto/rtp-vai-transmitir-jogos-olimpicos-2016-canal-aberto%26biw%3D1429%26bih%3D987 http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=pt&u=http://www.jornaldenegocios.pt/empresas/detalhe/sporttv_vai_ser_televisao_oficial_dos_jogos_olimpicos_de_verao_e_de_inverno.html&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dhttp://www.jornaldenegocios.pt/empresas/detalhe/sporttv_vai_ser_televisao_oficial_dos_jogos_olimpicos_de_verao_e_de_inverno.html%26biw%3D1429%26bih%3D987 Quote

Sir Rols Posted July 9, 2014 Author Report Posted July 9, 2014 So, Eddie Maguire won't be going to Rio: Seven Network reclaims rights to broadcast Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 and Tokyo in 2020THE Olympics are heading back to Kerry Stokes’ Seven Network after their recent flings with Nine and Ten. The Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 and Tokyo in 2020 are set to be broadcast on Seven, along with the 2018 Winter Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea. The broadcaster has signed the deal with the IOC and an announcement is expected within days, sources said. The IOC was hoping to snare as much as $250 million, but is believed to have settled for less than $200 million after both Nine and Ten pulled out of negotiations. The deal will mean a return to the Olympics for veteran broadcaster Bruce McAvaney, who famously called Cathy Freeman’s nation-stopping run for gold at the 2000 Sydney Games. Stokes, a sports nut who was spotted in the royal box at Wimbledon with David and Victoria Beckham and actor Samuel L. Jackson, took a personal interest in negotiations. “Seven see the Olympics as part of their heritage and there’s plenty of excitement about the Games coming back,’’ one source said. The last Olympics Seven broadcast were the Beijing Games of 2008, before it lost the rights to Nine and pay-TV operator Foxtel, which jointly paid $122 million for the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic and the 2012 London Games. Ten covered this year’s Winter Games in Sochi, where IOC vice-president John Coates helped kick off the new round of negotiations. The Australian deal follows a blockbuster $US7.75 billion deal announced in May with NBCUniversal for US broadcast rights until 2032. Daily Telegraph Not unhappy at that. It'll be good to see Seven back. And seems they got a pretty good deal - 2016 (we'll get all the night-primetime events in our mornings) and 2020 (perfect) will be in decent time zones for us. Quote
Durban Sandshark Posted July 9, 2014 Report Posted July 9, 2014 I too am glad that 7 is back down there for the Olympics. Perhaps that means FOXTEL will return to add supplementary and comprehensive coverage along with possibly 7's digital channels. Surprised the Pyongchang's Australian TV rights aren't part of the deal for Seven--and they are also at a favorable TV time spot for Australia and New Zealand. Thought it was going to take that too. Sir Rols Posted August 5, 2014 Author Report Posted August 5, 2014 It's official now: Seven secures long-term partnership with the Olympic Games IOC: The Seven Network, Australia’s most-watched broadcast television platform, today confirmed the signing of an historic, long-term agreement for an all-encompassing coverage of the Olympic Games over the coming decade. Seven’s agreement with the International Olympic Committee delivers free broadcast television and subscription television rights, and expands beyond television to Seven’s digital platforms, including online and Hybrid Broadband Broadcast Television. Seven has also secured radio broadcasting rights.Under the unprecedented new agreement, Seven will broadcast the Games of the XXXI Olympiad in Rio de Janeiro in 2016, the XXIII Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang in 2018, the Games of the XXXII Olympiad in Tokyo in 2020, and the Summer Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing in 2014.Underlining this new partnership is an option which, if exercised, extends the rights to include the XXIV Olympic Winter Games in 2022 and the XXXIII Olympic Games in 2024.Over the coming decade, Seven will create and deliver the most comprehensive, technologically advanced, multi-platform coverage of the Olympic Games to all Australians on any communications device. And the company’s commitment to its support of Olympism is evident with Seven’s very first broadcast of this agreement in less than two weeks’ time with a daily highlights package of the 2nd Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing. ... more @ AOC Quote
Brekkie Boy Posted August 5, 2014 Report Posted August 5, 2014 Will be interesting to see how Seven use "hBB TV" as they call it - or Smart TV/Connected TV as the rest of the world call it. The BBC have used it very effectively, but they don't need to worry about generating revenue from it so can essentially just put the world feeds straight on there, adding their own commentary if they wish. Seven will somehouw have to monetise it, so either through advertising or as a subscription service. Quote
