Quaker2001 Posted June 16, 2016 Report Posted June 16, 2016 That's a terrible choice, but whatever... If the Opening Ceremony is actually covered live and/or streamed live, then it's of little matter to me who is hosting. If nothing of those are the case, then I'm going to be unhappy. Quote

zekekelso Posted June 17, 2016 Report Posted June 17, 2016 Oh, come on. Kathy Lee and Hoda drunk-casting the opening ceremony would be awesome. Let Costa and crew do the "serious" broadcasting, but then put Kathy Lee and Hoda on the second audio channel for those who want a better option. I'm not a big fan of Kathy Lee, but Frank Gifford was a great Olympic broadcaster back in the day. Heck, he and others at ABC pretty much invented modern Olympic broadcasting. He did everything from the infamous '72 gold metal basketball game to Franz Klammer's amazing run. So in a weird way, it's almost fitting to have her on. Quote

Durban Sandshark Posted June 21, 2016 Report Posted June 21, 2016 For the first time ever in South Asia (India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, and the Maldives), Star Sports will present its Rio 2016 coverage across all its 8 channels for a total of 3000+ hours under its "Isse Bada Kuch Nahi" campaign with 4 in SD (Star Sports 1, 2, 3, and 4) each with distinct feeds and 4 mirrored feeds in HD (Star Sports HD 1, 2, 3, 4) announced at the 50-day mark. All 24/7. Star Sports 1 and 4 and its HD mirrors will have English-language coverage with Star Sports 2 and 3 and its HD versions being in Hindi. Every medal live. There's a crop of notable and accomplished international and Indian former athletes on board with Ian Thorpe, badminton star Prakash Padukone, shooter Anjali Bhagwat, former field hockey player captain Viren Rasquinha, and swimmer Rehan Poncha among many other reporters and analysts who will share, analyse and connect with the Indian viewers. Star Sports also will have two anchors at the Rio venues, interviewing players and athletes. Those TV presenters are Paula Malai Ali (English) and Divya Jaitley (Hindi). The telecast will begin at 3.30 pm India time with a pre-event show and go to live coverage at 4.30 pm, continuing up to 5 am the next morning, curated in a manner that South Asian (not limited to just Indian) fans desire. The efforts are towards popularizing the Games in India, considering the previous telecast record with ESPN Star Sports hasn’t been great and not all events in the Olympics were telecast in the country. At the same time, Star’s video streaming platform Hotstar will also provide coverage of the Olympics, with 14 live feeds consistently on the Olympics video player that can rise up to 36 concurrent streams, available to users on demand through the event that will amplify the all-around coverage the South Asian digital viewer to cover every single minute. Viewers there will be able choose the sports, players, and even nations they want to follow and get instant updates on the medal tally and player performance that will personalized, interactive, and unique for him and her. Star Sports' Rio 2016 Olympic telecast will have a limited amount of sponsors, very likely in the single digits in total with aims of going to the RS 9-12 crone range, with some yet to be on board on an ad-sales strategy that won't be limited to sell commercial time as TVC’s (television ads) only but also into the digital realm. Easy to see why English and Hindi were chosen as the two languages for Star Sports: both are the most widely-spoken and frequently used across and in the desired higher income markets all over the South Asian region, regardless of nation in them. Not sure how and if the more regional languages like Urdu, Punjabi, Tamil, Gujararti, Bengali, Malayalam, Sinhalese, Nepali, Dzonghka, Maldivian, Dogri, Sanskrit, Bodo, Konkani, Kashmiri, Sindhi, and Pashto would be incorporated, except maybe for select events (as done with Canada's ATN and OMNI during the Vancouver/London cycle) where they are popular for one region during the Star Sports coverage. I'd say there's just no way to please everyone. Speaking of the South Asian popular sports, we can certainly expect where those nations are serious contenders like shooting, badminton, tennis, and archery and popular sports like field hockey (expect plenty of it), wrestling, boxing, and weightlifting. With the other channels being the anchor and globally popular sports like swimming, gymnastics (India's got a gymnast there), basketball, soccer, track and field, table tennis, and golf. Makes sense with the promo I showed you from Star Sports' Facebook page with that mix of English and Hindi. Surely with the Star Sports Hindi Olympics channels. So there will be plenty of face time to show everybody from all those nations on those two channels at least with broadcasting arrangements conducted to special events with an Indian representatives participating with its largest Olympic team ever. On the other hand, given how small the Pakistani, Bengali, Sri Lankan, Nepalese, Bhutanese, and Maldivian contingents will be down in Rio De Janeiro in comparison to India's even combined with no Olympic field hockey for Pakistan, it's no wonder why the promo focuses only on the Indian Olympians: http://www.business-standard.com/article/companies/star-sports-to-telecast-olympics-on-8-channels-116061600914_1.htmlhttp://www.exchange4media.com/tv/star-sports-hotstar-up-the-ante-on-rio-2016-olympics-coverage;-dedicate-8-channels-on-24*7-basis_64895.htmlhttp://indiatoday.intoday.in/story/star-india-rio-olympics-2016-live-content-broadcast/1/693572.html You can take a modest look at Bulgaria's BNT's advertising/commercial TV rates in levskis for a :30 spot for its upcoming Rio 2016 coverage during 6 different blocks on both weekdays and weekends that will be shown on BNT1 and BNT HD1. Seems as though the coverage will be on almost 24 hours a day. Including 60 of these 76 hours on primetime. Just a friendly reminder:http://www.teamusa.org/USA-Diving/News/2016/March/28/NBC-Olympics-to-present-unprecedented-coverage-of-2016-US-Olympic-Team-Trials Read that FOX Sports Latin America Rio 2016 Summer Olympics 1000-hour, 3-channel, telecast plans article? Very easy to evaluate the studios will be in Mexico City for Mexico and Central America with the Dominican Republic included, the 3 Brazilian studios for FOX Sports Brazil will be at least two in Rio De Janeiro (possibly one included near Copacabana Beach) and a possible third based in Sao Paulo that will focus on the Brazilian coverage, and the Argentina one in Buenos Aires zeroing in on the Spanish South American nations with some distinctions for Colombia and Chile like studio anchors. Does seem at least on the surface the staff may work together in some ways like ESPN's (which includes the West Indies portion there) but not really. Breaking down all that and remembering what was mentioned earlier in making distinctions in the coverage as far as the Olympic sports are concerned where the appeal is. Soccer definitely is universal across the region, let's get that out of the way and lots of that there. Like for example, you won't see much in the way of rugby 7s on the Mexican/Central American portion that you will see with FOX Sports Argentina/Chile. Vice versa, diving isn't as big there as it is in Mexico. In the FS2 channel during Rio 2016, surely the Mexican Olympic Team will get much attention but FOX Sports must also make sure there's ample time for the smaller neighboring ones like Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, Guatemala, Dominican Republic, and Panama. Chile, Colombia, and Argentina will have some distinctions among themselves with perhaps Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay under the FOX Sports Argentina umbrella with its athletes with the Colombia part teaming with Peru, Ecuador, and Venezuela as far as its athletes. All strictly speculation from me based on what we now know. Once we get the schedules and official press releases, we see how the breakdown goes. Still no word on India's Doordarshan handling the Olympics with a sublicense from Star Sports. But my guess will come on DD National and DD Sports. Yeah, NBC's Olympic coverage from the United States in the Flow Sports territories in the West Indies WILL be blacked out. Plus Flow's live coverage will come on average 7am-7pm CT:http://www.marketwatch.com/story/flow-takes-inclusive-approach-to-rio-2016-olympic-games-2016-06-17-131601410http://finance.yahoo.com/news/flow-counts-down-50-days-182403980.html RTP1 in Portugal will anchor the free-to-air portion of the Portuguese TV coverage beginning at 22:00 with RTP2 getting involved and possibly another one along with radio and online following the Portuguese delegation in competition, including both ceremonies, for at least 200 hours. Durban Sandshark Posted June 22, 2016 Report Posted June 22, 2016 Infront Sports & Media and TV Media & Sport finalized several more Sub-Saharan African Rio 2016 territorial media rights deals that are now made public following Tanzania and Nigeria. Kenya's Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC), Angola's Televisao Publico do Angola (TPA), Burundi's RTNB (Radio Télévision National du Burundi), Republic of the Congo–Brazzaville's Tele Congo (Télévision Nationale Congolaise), Cote d'Ivoire/Ivory Coast's RTI (Radiodiffusion Television Ivoirienne), Gambia's and Senegal's Excaf Group (Groupe Excaf Telecom), Mozambique's TVM (Televisão de Moçambique), and Seychelles' SBC (Seychelles Broadcasting Corporation). As with the agreement like the others in Nigeria (NTV, Hip TV, Daar Communications, and Silverbird) and Tanzania (Azam Media), the broadcasters' agreement comprise the extensive rights for free-to-air transmissions of live and delayed coverage across all platforms--terrestrial, satellite and cable TV, as well as (non-exclusive) internet/mobile. Coverage of the opening and closing ceremonies is ensured, along with 6-9, but no less than six, hours daily programming from Rio De Janeiro along with daily Olympic highlights and news programs. This includes a focus on African athletes and the most popular competitions, with the programming being further enhanced with commentary in French, English and Portuguese:http://www.infrontsports.com/news/2016/06/infront-together-with-tv-media-sport-secures-broadcast-agreements-for-rio-2016-olympic-games-in-eight-additional-territories/ TV5Monde Africa's press release announcing its 46-nation Sub-Saharan African Francophone broadcast coverage of the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics as the official French-speaking Sub-Saharan African Olympic broadcaster. Not as massively comprehensive in comparison with the English-language (and some Portuguese) version coming from the South African-based SuperSport because for one thing, this is all in one channel and not in 6-8 as planned from SS including the Portuguese SuperSport Maximos. Not even 24/7 with 6 hours of live action starting August 5-11 with broadcasts from 15:00-18:00 (GMT, 3-6pm very likely soccer highlights involving the African soccer teams from the previous two days with maybe a preview on August 5) and 19:00-22:00 (7-10pm) with perhaps an increase from 6-9 hours afterwards up to August 11. Then from August 12, viewers will follow up to 9 hours a day: 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm (GMT), from 19:00 to 22:00 (GMT), and 23:00 to 2:00 am (GMT) and a replay athletics events every morning from 9:00 to 12:00 (GMT). Issue it seems is not as wall-to-wall like many Olympic broadcasters worldwide are aiming for. Doesn't say anything regarding streaming and app rights. But like Supersport, an emphasis will get placed on the Sub-Saharan African Olympic athletes during the broadcast. Likely that will be taken cared once again by the IOC by issuing that their own and distribute it to them and many other nations when we get closer to the start:http://presse.tv5monde.com/tv5monde-afrique-diffuseur-officiel-des-jeux-olympiques-de-rio-2016/https://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=fr&u=http://presse.tv5monde.com/tv5monde-afrique-diffuseur-officiel-des-jeux-olympiques-de-rio-2016/&prev=search TV5Monde Afrique's Rio 2016 promo, which shows some sports it likely won't televise unless Africans are involved. Has lots of footage from London 2012 though: Hold on, TV5Monde Afrique and MTN-TV did announce a live and VOD online streaming and mobile app for Rio 2016 to form the Audiovisual partnership:http://www.aboukam.net/2016/06/07/audiovisuel-tv5monde-et-mtn-mobile-tv-pour-un-direct-des-jo-2016-de-rio-bresil/https://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=fr&u=http://www.aboukam.net/2016/06/07/audiovisuel-tv5monde-et-mtn-mobile-tv-pour-un-direct-des-jo-2016-de-rio-bresil/&prev=search Been a while since we last talked about China's CCTV and its Olympic plans this year. China's CCTV-5 partners up with Chinese social media company Sina Weibo, the Chinese answer to Twitter, announced as the premier social media partner of the TV station, to support CCTV-5’s media strategy for Rio 2016. As stated in the report, Olympic programming will be available all day for Chinese viewers on Sina Weibo, CCTV-5, and CCTV- 5's app. Users will also be able to share their favorite programs from that app to Sina Weibo. In the near future, their partnership will also involve production, content, big data and news reports:http://en.ytsports.cn/news-2561.html ORF's Rio 2016 Olympische Sommerspiele TV advertising press kit is now up. ORF will have ORF1 and ORF Sport+ on the TV side to broadcast the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics. It all starts with the 1-hour Osterreicher Olympische Committee's Farewell Party live on ORF1 at 18:00 (6pm). It won't broadcast the pre-Opening Ceremony but comes back August 5 with the 55-minute Countdown to the Opening Ceremony at 1am with the OC afterwards live. Coverage starts on August 6 at 12:30 CET (with Studio Live and an Opening Ceremony review until 2:40pm) on to usually 5-6am, but after that it will go from 9-5am starting with a 3-hour review show Das War Tag _ before the Live and 4 daily segments: Afternoon, Early Evening, Evening, and Late Night. August 22 will see ORF1 have just Das War Tag 16 at 9am-12pm. ORF1 closes things on August 23 with a 1-hour review show at 6pm. As for ORF Sport+, its portion of the live multihour coverage usually will be from 16:00-1:00 on some days and 12:00(or 12:30)-1:00 on others. Handful of these Olympic days will be even shorter on ORF Sport+.http://enterprise.orf.at/fileadmin/user_upload/5_downloads/2_angebote/2016/Rio2016/ORF_E_ANGEBOT_OLYMPIA_2016_DE_20160606.pdf A (mostly) black and white NBC Rio 2016 promo focusing on the start to that very Olympic moment to glory when that "is all that ever matters" in which things can come down "to a fraction of a second" after all those years of preparation to get there. Features Ashton Eaton, Alyson Felix, Michael Phelps, and a few other including a couple of American divers and an American shot putter: Wow, it turns out the 3-floor Globo/SporTV tower studio in Rio De Janeiro's Barra da Tijuca from the massive but heavily targeted Brazilian media giant is also protester-proof too:http://plus55.com/sports/2016/06/fearing-protests-olympics-tv-station-builds-tower-studio Quote
gotosy Posted June 23, 2016 Report Posted June 23, 2016 NHK to stream all Rio Olympics events not covered on TV for free online Public broadcaster NHK announced on June 22 that it will offer free online streaming of all Rio de Janeiro Olympics events that are not scheduled to be covered via NHK and commercial television networks. Some 2,000 hours of international footage without studio commentary are due to be covered through international live streaming -- more than double the 913 hours during the London Olympics. Revision of the Broadcast Act in April last year allowed footage that doesn't end up being included in television programs to be viewed through online streaming. NHK's move is a test initiative to determine the viability of internet broadcasting for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. NHK will also launch an experimental initiative for up to four hours per day featuring simultaneous internet broadcasting of events aired on television such as the opening ceremony and the final rounds of sports that would attract viewers. phandrosis Posted June 23, 2016 Report Posted June 23, 2016 What's good about that is if they do simultaneously broadcast the opening ceremony then there will be somewhere to watch it where the network doesn't omit parts of the ceremony for commercials or interviews like NBC loves to do. Quote
Durban Sandshark Posted June 24, 2016 Report Posted June 24, 2016 This is Seven's latest Rio 2016 promo here in this case emphasizing not just watching the Olympics wherever and whenever you are with its live coverage with its channels and Internet/mobile app streams. But also of Australians gathering around wherever they are to cheer on and celebrate their Australian Olympians. RTVS Slovakia plans to have its Olympic web subsite with up to 8 live streams. Still no word on what Nova Sports TV will do for both the Czech Republic and Slovakia with the Olympic rights they presently have and its Rio 2016 broadcasting plans. Or even Ceske Rozhlas:http://telkac.zoznam.sk/telkac-magazin/cl/178/2422/https://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=sk&u=http://telkac.zoznam.sk/telkac-magazin/cl/178/2422/&prev=search Got some (tenative) Russian Rio 2016 Olympic broadcasting developments that actually were made public a couple of months ago. A live broadcast and webcast of the opening ceremony of the Summer Olympic Games in 2016 in Rio De Janeiro will be carried out on the TV channel Russia-1 from VGTRK with the closing ceremony of the Games in Brazil will broadcast the First Channel (Channel One/Perviy Kanal). This was reported by TASS General Producer of the First Channel Alexander Fayfman. "The Opening Ceremony of the Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro will get broadcast on Russia-1, and the 2016 Closing Ceremony of the Olympic Games will get shown on the First Channel," said Fayfman. "We always do it on the line for the past 20 years. For the opening ceremony. Summer Games 2012 showed us, and VGTRK "closed" Olympics remaining sport events in the Olympic Games, we have among themselves divided. Later, you will learn what the competition will be shown on the First Channel and VGTRK, which operates Match!-TV", in which it is also quite a big package."http://tass.ru/sport/3260831 Information about the First Channel's plans on the coverage of the Olympics are really yet to be determined and may be quite comprehensive. VGTRK intends to use TV channel Russia 1 as the Olympic Games Channel with coverage on the channel, but the format is also not yet reported. It's possible Perviy Kanal will broadcast the Olympics for 5-6 hours a day (with an emphasis on night slot 00: 00-05: 00), also starting in the area 11:00 on weekdays with Olympic Diary released. The daytime news show Good Morning will be cropped for live broadcasts of the evening (Moscow time nightly) due to the Olympic swimming sessions. The choice will be "divided" and mixed with "Match TV". Again, Russia 1 will show live the Opening Ceremony with its Olympic broadcasts going for at least 5 hours a day, apparently under the scheme that's similar to the First Channel but without the diaries. It is possible that the programming will be divided or alternating by days (like one day showing on Channel One and on Russia 1 on the other like with Germany's ZDF and ARD), in which case the number of hours can be used. A staff commentary and studio that might be shared has yet to be determined. If the Russian athletics team will be entirely excluded from the Rio (as the probability of such exists), then track and field broadcast on the First Channel and Russia 1 will be canceled and will remain only on the channels GPM-Match. But if Russia pulls out entirely, everything save for the ceremonies will get cancelled from its coverage. Sub-license holder GPM-Match! plans to use channels Match TV / HD, Match! Arena / HD, Match! Game / HD, Match! Football 3 / HD, Match! Our sport, and Match! Fighter for comprehensive coverage regardless. It may also add channels to Match! Football 1 / HD, Match! Football 2 / HD, and Horse World / HD for equestrian. Match! TV / HD will broadcast the most significant events of the entire Olympics, Match! Arena / HD will focus on non-game species competition, Match! Game / HD - on game, match! Fighter will illuminate the boxing, wrestling, and the martial arts (judo and taekwondo). Channel concept Match! TV's comprehensive sports coverage is not yet defined, but most likely, the channel will show various events without but rather other broadcast channels. Match! Football 3 / HD channel probably will broadcast the entire Olympic soccer tournaments, but can be connected to the display and other sports, especially gaming. It is assumed that with the Olympics of GPM Match! will travel with 145 people (including technical staff) to Rio De Janeiro. Though some commentators and the number of broadcasts, which plans to be be small, will run from Moscow. Sport 1, as in Sochi, will broadcast diaries without the right to access the videos. Match! TV, like its predecessor Russia-2/Sport, could very well have the top Olympic showcase events, particularly with a strong Russian heritage (swimming, gymnastics, track and field, diving, boxing, etc.), live and recorded that couldn't be shown live or as a repeat showing. Commentary wasn't not very good channel RTR was Rovsky and commentators, too, Zholobov on swimming, athletics may have Rostislav and Orlov, cycling with Cheskidov, Nikolai Popov as the different types of cycling, were invited, such as Orel. The main thing was that the important events that are on during the night Russian time and are on the air, then DH was still pending at that time. As far as the Russian Internet Rio 2016 Olympic coverage is concerned, the site to go for will be 1tv.ru with the First Channel's TV simulcast, as well as, perhaps, will be available additional streams without commentary with possibly will be presented to up to 12 live Internet channels MDS (Multi-channel Distribution Service) that's formed by OBS - host broadcaster of the Olympics. RTR/VGTRK is likely to full coverage of the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics online but details are not yet present. GPM Match will illuminate the Games on the websites matchtv.ru, sportbox.ru, ntvplus.tv and sport.ntvplus.ru. In this case, most likely, will not be available additional flows with only the signal of linear channels. VGTRK sportscaster Vladimir Stognienko says you'll see and hear him after the European Championship with Rio 2016 at the Olympics on Russia-1 designated as a great Olympic Channel, "where I'll be busy for 5 hours a day. In a month I will be the studio anchor work and comments on certain Olympic sports. There are other plans forthcoming that's too early to say. We will discuss them in detail in July." Like including a documentary.http://www.championat.com/football/article-249534-vladimir-stognienko--o-evro-sbornoj-i-rabote-kommentatora.html Despite the general coverage details still largely under wraps for now with that of DD National's (DD1), DD Sports India promo for Rio 2016 is up: The Summer Olympics visiting Brazil this August will NEVER stop the Brazilians weaning themselves from watching their beloved telenovelas and Globo TV from showing them even with that ambitious Olympic broadcasting project, which is a major reason why Globo will only air a rather low (by global terrestrial TV Olympic showing standards these days) 160 hours. Mostly 9-10 hours a day contractually. They are following their audience's preferences not wishing to be gagged down only sports. Only soccer and volleyball majorly disrupt this. Joao Pedro Paes Leme, Globo's sports director, was asked about this answering he is more importantly "a TV man" understanding their importance. Interestingly, this telenovela love affair started with the military rule from 1964 to 1985:http://www1.folha.uol.com.br/ilustrada/2016/06/1781202-olimpiada-tera-disputa-acirrada-entre-esportes-e-novelas-na-tv-brasileira.shtml Will wait until next week before I discuss Singapore's saga and everything else. I'll be very busy this weekend... 1 Quote

But I must point out that I already mentioned in great depth about Star Sports' South Asian Olympic pay-TV coverage with the links in the previous page on this thread. Perdita Felicien and CBC News' Heather Hislop get to publicly announce CBC Sports' Rio 2016 sportscasting/reporting team in Toronto with the former hurdler Felicien planning to report more than track and field but also interesting storylines. Though the names aren't mentioned in it as we perhaps hope here, the real focus of this segment centers on the doping issue. We even get to see a nice portion of what the CBC/Radio-Canada's Rio 2016 broadcast intro and artwork will be like: TM's award-winning IPTV service, HyppTV, will broadcast the Rio 2016 Olympic Games on HyppSports' live, free, nonstop, and dedicated HD channels (HyppTV Channels 720 - 726) as the Official IPTV Broadcast Partner in Malaysia, making its Malaysian Olympic IPTV debut as its only digital platform there also equipped with its live, interactive, and exclusive Rio 2016 content from July 25-September 2. Can very well be the latest tech beginning as far as the Olympics are concerned from them with NBC having the rights all the way to 2032 as the behemoth attempts to stem the fleeing away from cable and slay the alternatives like Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu. Even Canada's Shaw Communications is getting this that will likely carry CBC's digital features (though as yet announced): http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2016-06-20/comcast-ceo-prepares-his-netflix-killer-for-an-olympics-showcase NPO 1, nos.nl, and NPO Radio 1 featured the Dutch men's Olympic hockey team selection on Sportjornaal and the NK (Nederland Kampoen) gymnastics apparatus finals yesterday as part of the NOS Studio Sport Sunday: http://nos.nl/artikel/2113602-de-sport-van-zondag-bij-de-nos.html Encouraging Austrians to get Smart TVs in time for the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics: http://www.tv-erlebnis.at/olympia-2016-in-rio-de-janeiro/ 1 Quote
