What are the odds there should be a third person at the OC for NBC to help educate Americans on the Brazilian culture? Is that really needed with Laurer and Guthrie?

Sony gets utilized with 100+ HD cameras (some in 4K), MVS production switcher models, and professional models as part of NBC Olympics' production of Rio 2016 with 24/7 service along with systems solutions team and productions management office:

TVP1 will have the Night in Rio early morning review show. Roscoe hooks up with NBC Olympics to provide RoscoVIEW Window Control, a unique two-part control system that allows broadcast studios to control the light exposure of their windows, down in Rio De Janiero:

NBC's not the only TV broadcaster getting tech-happy in announcements at this time. TV2 Norge in Norway picks Hiberian to fully managed video transport systems in its coverage of the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio De Janeiro, where Hiberian's system incorporates 23 JPEG2000 streams and IP feeds between the International Broadcast Center (IBC) in Rio De Janeiro and TV2's studio in Bergen:

Certainly does appear that Argentina's Canal 9 TV Publica will broadcast Rio 2016 on the terrestrial TV side there. Not much details beyond that:

Just heard about that on one of my local sports radio stations this afternoon. Huge coup indeed if Tirico can join in time. What Olympic sports should he cover? How about golf on the Golf Channel ? He's done that. Basketball we know he can do, but would it be interesting if he were assigned the non-USA games with so many international players in the NBA?

How NBC Today celebrates the 100-day Olympic countdown at its Rockerfeller Plaza headquarters with "an Olympic beach party" on Wednesday morning:

Correction: it's Canal 7 TV Publica that's the government channel. Canal 9 is actually a Argentinian commercial TV network (or channel).

TV3 and its newly-launched sister sports channel TV3 Sport co-broadcasted Sweden's successful Olympic team handball tournaments March 18-20 (ladies) and April 8-10 (men) with help with Viaplay:

Still haven't got any details about what Star Sports India, Nova Sport TV in Czech Republic and Slovakia, Sport TV Portugal, Iceland's 365 Media's Stod 2 Sport, VGTRK/Channel One/NTV Plus, and South Korea's SBS, MBC, and KBS for examples.

In more New Zealand Olympic sports media news, Newshub Sports radio will have former New Zealand athlete Michelle Pickles co-hosting along with Mike McRoberts and produce Newshub's Olympic coverage in Rio De Janeiro with her vast multisport reporting experience:

NBC Olympics surely is going ambitious with its Rio 2016 production--and expensive--with all the challenges political, economic, and not down in Brazil the Peacock is closely looking into. $100 million dollars is used for its all-out promotional campaign, its largest ever, with a total of 7500 promos overall for a summer promotional blitz. Yes, 7500. Production costs centers around $200 million. Help with local affiliates in localized coverage on athletes. 6000 hours (up from 5500) will be produced from NBC Universal on TV and online/mobile. But it's aiming high in hopes of surpassing London as we are now at the 100-day mark. NBCU does know how to strategize for this promotion and sell ad space everywhere to attract the American eyeballs like Millenials. Really good article here from the Wall Street Journal detailing all this:

NBC didn't bring Mike Tirico in to be the secondary basketball announcer. That's ridiculous. No idea how NBC will re-arrange their chess pieces with Tirico on the roster, but it will be a much higher profile assignment than that.

And with one hire, NBC has the logical replacement for both Al Michaels on SNF and Bob Costas as Olympic primetime host, whenever he decides to step down.

My thoughts exactly. There's plenty to keep him occupied at NBC until 1 or both of those guys decides to retire (as opposed to when NBC hired Josh Elliott as the heir apparent to Costas). The read I've gotten on this is that golf is the main drawing card. ESPN lost 2 of their 3 biggest properties, so by jumping to NBC, he can be heavily involved in golf..

Yes, which leaves us wondering where Dan Hicks will go?

..but not necessarily replace Hicks. Comcast owns Golf Channel, so there will be plenty of work there for Tirico. Hicks will likely still be the main guy on golf for NBC. He's been there too long for NBC to shove him out the door. I think Tirico will be more than content with more of a hosting role when it comes to golf. He'll have the British Open and then the Ryder Cup in the fall.

I could see Tirico doing something like track and field. What's up with Tom Hammond?

Tom Hammond is 72 and his current contract with NBC ends this year. I think it's likely that he continues to cover horse racing for a few more years, but I think this will probably be his last Olympics for track and field.

Agreed. It's already been hinted that this will be Hammond's last Olympics and I think he'd be perfectly happy to retire from TV aside from horse racing. No idea who would take over track & field from him on that one. I think they can find something better suited for Tirico though.

The Canadian Olympic Committee brought us We Are Winter for Sochi 2014. Now the COC premieres Ice In Our Veins with the help of the CBC News Channel today for Rio 2016, still keeping the wintry theme from two years ago:

We are fully aware that Globo, because of the upcoming wall-to-wall Rio 2016 Olympic coverage starting surely with the pre-Opening Ceremony Olympic soccer, much of Globo's regular scheduled programming will be on hiatus for those two weeks. Find out which shows:

TV2 Norway will have 28-year old rising star Ingrid Halstensen, normally the TV2 Sportkanalen News anchor and once a Premier League substitute host and gaining experience along the way in many projects, co-host the coverage from Rio De Janeiro with 52-year old Erik Thorstvedt, a former soccer pro. TV2 Norge plans to show 5600 hours live on TV2, as all this announced today at the 100-day mark, TV2 Sport (both of which will be on 24 hours a day each), and TV2 Sumo, the biggest Summer Olympic coverage ever on Norwegian TV. This allows TV2 to promote every Norwegian Summer Olympian in Rio and also other athletes from other nations and other sports. Note the Helly Hansen polos both are wearing. Ingrid's also in Jamaica right now to meet with Usain Bolt for a profile piece.

Halstensen and Thorstvedt are part of a 60-person TV2 team in Rio De Janeiro with 25 of them Norwegian sportscasters, along with Aril Riise. Annemarta Giske will handle some studio anchor responsibilities back in Oslo. Both links have the lists of sportscasters assigned what sport far more so than what Viasat/TV3/TV10 currently has:

700 hours coming from France Televisions through 4 channels--2, 3, 4, and Ô--and an additional 2400 hours online and mobile of Rio 2016 with a team 70 reporters and 30 consultants to cover all 42 events. France 2 and 3 will alternate coverage like ARD and ZDF do in Germany on starting August 5, running somewhere between 21-24 hours and France 3 offering daily from 9am to 12pm replays, highlights, major events of the day, and news. France 4 will once again be devoted to Olympic soccer starting on August 3 but now with rugby 7s added. France O will cater towards basketball, handball, and volleyball.

France 2 will broadcast the Opening Ceremony live at 10:45pm from Rio De Janeiro's legendary Maracana Stadium with hosts Daniel Bilalian , Alexander Boyon, and former PSG star Rai. France 2-3 will repeat it soon afterwards. Mathieu Lartot will appear live on France 3 at 1pm then onto France 2 from 2pm. Laurent Luyat takes over from 6pm on France 2. Cedric Beaudou Live will host Brazilian nights every day from 11pm to live finals all sports. Side magazine, go from 8am on France 3 Night in Rio. On France 2 from 12 am, Mathieu Lartot and Clementine Sarlat present Bom Dia Rio ( "Hello Rio"). Lionel Chamoulaud and Celine Geraud intervene, in turn, from the Club France, which will be installed the French delegation for the entire fortnight. The former judoka Geraud also is preparing a special Stade 2 from Copacabana Beach, which should be interesting.

Finally, consultants of a new kind will be staged on France Télévisions. With humorists the Raving Rabbids (Lapins Cretins) explain in short programs, technical gestures as ippon or setbacks or ignored disciplines like jumping to the general public:

This explains more about who will be there for FranceTV Sport including the aforementioned Giraud, Boyan, Luyat, Bilalian, Rai, Manaudou, Jérôme Alonzo, cyclist Laurent Jalabert, Stéphane Diagana, Fabien Galthié, judoka Lucie Décosse, boxer Brahim Asloum seront à Rio pour France TV.

Manaudou's old swimming coach Philippe Lucas, tennis player Michaël Llodra, François Gabart, fencer Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt and director and ex-volleyball player Elie Chouraqui. :

I wonder will the outgoing NOS sportscaster and pundit Mart Smeets will get geraniums again for his final television broadcast that's Olympic basketball in Rio De Janeiro?

http://www.nu.nl/media/4248372/mart-smeets-neemt-afscheid-met-geraniums.html

Now official in Mexico. The Summer Olympics will be only shown on Canal 22 Mexico City and Canal 11, along with Claro Sports, FOX Sports Latin America, and ESPN Latin America. Thanks to America Movil's negotiations and selections for this Olympic cycle, TV Azteca and Televisa are shut out from the Olympics again for those Mexicans long accustomed to watching the Summer Olympics on the Mexican media giants' channels, which were big ratings getters for the two. Will take some getting used to:

http://canal44.com/televisa-y-tv-azteca-no-transmitiran-los-juegos-olimpicos-de-rio-2016/

Pinoys, get ready with the breakdown of the TV5 coverage: Announced by Patricia Bermudez-Hizon, Sports5 is committed to show about 16 hours of Olympic action on free TV through TV5 and Aksyon TV daily. Pay TV provider Cignal will also provide Olympic action with three channels—Hyper/Hyper HD, Rio 1 Olympic channel, and Rio 2 Olympic channel—bringing the games from Rio De Janeiro 24/7. Cignal TV head of channels Sienna Olaso said Hyper/Hyper HD will carry the basketball and volleyball games, Rio 1 will broadcast the athletics, aquatics, and racket sports, while Rio 2 will have the combat sports. PLDT and Smart will also be the country’s official online and mobile broadcast provider. BTW people in the photo, the torch is from London not the Rio one:

Certainly would not out of place two years ago, Rio neighborhood setting and all. And that's what FranceTVSport wants you to think at first. Until you start seeing people in the neighborhood start emulating Olympic athletes in various sports while supposedly playing a pickup game of street soccer. France Televisions and (TSR in Switzerland) is no stranger to this, as evidenced with people in everyday settings, young and old alike, portrayed as fufilling their Olympic fantasies

That link from La Croix also talks more about the Raving Rabbids.
