I think it's likely that he continues to cover horse racing for a few more years, but I think this will probably be his last Olympics for track and field. NBC didn't bring Mike Tirico in to be the secondary basketball announcer. That's ridiculous. No idea how NBC will re-arrange their chess pieces with Tirico on the roster, but it will be a much higher profile assignment than that. And with one hire, NBC has the logical replacement for both Al Michaels on SNF and Bob Costas as Olympic primetime host, whenever he decides to step down. My thoughts exactly. There's plenty to keep him occupied at NBC until 1 or both of those guys decides to retire (as opposed to when NBC hired Josh Elliott as the heir apparent to Costas). The read I've gotten on this is that golf is the main drawing card. ESPN lost 2 of their 3 biggest properties, so by jumping to NBC, he can be heavily involved in golf.. Yes, which leaves us wondering where Dan Hicks will go? ..but not necessarily replace Hicks. Comcast owns Golf Channel, so there will be plenty of work there for Tirico. Hicks will likely still be the main guy on golf for NBC. He's been there too long for NBC to shove him out the door. I think Tirico will be more than content with more of a hosting role when it comes to golf. He'll have the British Open and then the Ryder Cup in the fall. It's already been hinted that this will be Hammond's last Olympics and I think he'd be perfectly happy to retire from TV aside from horse racing.
