That's very nice what Globo did. Now I get to do my turn in presenting an extended Globo Rio 2016 Olimpiadas clip

A little potential insight into NBC's Olympic programming schedule..

NASCAR releases race start times for 2016 Sprint Cup, XFINITY, truck seasons

There are 5 NASCAR races airing on NBCU networks during the Olympics (don't know if they would show additional coverage of practice and qualifying as they would during a regular week)..

Saturday 8/6 - 2pm on CNBC
Sunday 8/7 - 2:30pm on USA
Saturday 8/13 - 3:30pm on USA
Friday 8/19 - 7:30pm on USA
Saturday 8/20 - 8pm on NBCSN

Interesting indeed with the NASCAR races possibly being sandwiched with the Rio 2016 Olympic coverage from the NBC family. Looks as though USA could again get a portion of some Olympic coverage for the first time since Beijing. Though we don't know exactly what sports it will do. Before the arrival of NBC Sports Network, USA was the hub for the US Olympic Team for NBC's Summer and Winter Olympics coverage. NBC Sports Network's current status with the US Olympic Team surely will not change since London 2012, since the NBC Universal wants that as THE cable sports TV showcase network for the Olympics in the family. For the middle of the coverage, my guess is the USA Network will cut away at those times and move the coverage to one of the other networks not named NBC Sports Network, if necessary. I think USA will show some varied sports like global non-US sports like RDS and V did with London 2012 up in Canada (the irony in that USA name). Much of the Olympic events would be wrapping up and aren't many to televise by August 19-20. There, the NBC Rio 2016 coverage can end there for both USA and NBCSN before those times. Boxing tends to be an evening event with the 3-hour CNBC weekday coverage, so NASCAR won't impact that as much.

I like many thought the USA Network got out of the sports business for good following its loss of the US Open to ESPN...until Sochi 2014 with ice hockey and curling. My question becomes what happens when there's a rain delay/postponement in those races and resuming must take place? On the other hand, USA may not do the Rio Summer Olympics at all.

Canal+ Sport France brings aboard gold medalists ex-fencer Laura Flessel and former judoka Thierry Rey for its coverage:
http://www.ozap.com/actu/canal-apres-le-depart-de-thomas-thouroude-herve-mathoux-recupere-rio-le-magazine-des-jo/488426

Now it will be Herve Mathoux and Marina Lorenzo co-hosting Canal+ Sport's Rio TV magazine show after Thomas Thouroude left the channel:
http://www.newstele.com/2016/01/rio-le-magazine-des-jeux-olympiques-herve-mathoux-et-marina-lorenzo-remplacent-thomas-thouroude.html

Mads Kaggestad likely will be there in Rio for TV2 Norge as a cycling expert:
http://www.tv2.no/a/7959357

Two additional sponsor placements that Brazilians will no doubt are currently seeing plenty of on Globo TV and SporTV up to August. Its rivals will do the same and, like with the World Cup two years ago, will many of the same sponsor partners before and the start of its coverage segments:

None yet. Checked not to long ago regarding Canal 9, TyC Sports, Claro Sports, DIRECTV, FOX Sports, and ESPN Latin America. Nothing as far as the Argentinan TV and radio coverage has been announced yet--tends to be rather late in the game--save for Claro's online plans. Will keep looking.

Can give you TyC Sports' rio 2016 Olympic webpages for now:

http://www.tycsports.com/seccion/deportes/juegos-olimpicos

Also coaches for Argentina's Olympic team sports in basketball, field hockey, volleyball, and soccer--Gerardo Martino Sergio Hernandez, Carlos Retegui, Eduardo Gallardo and Eduardo Peruchena--all will talk with TyC Sports:

Looking forward to see what type of NBC Olympics presentational layouts and expertise across the board are in store under Peter Diamond now moving on up:

Been a while since we touched on SuperSport. Latest Olympic broadcasting news include a 24-hour Olympic news channel for the first time along with the 6 dedicated HD channels (not counting the SuperSport Maximo channels), Ryk Neethling will return as part of the SuperSport on-location sportscasting team dispatched to Brazil, highlights and repeat broadcasts will be on all Olympic channels during “non-live” time (early morning onwards, SA-time), two Olympic magazine shows--Ola Brasil and Insights, and DStv Explora CatchUp will play a major role in SuperSport’s all-encompassing broadcasts – every African medal and all major events will be available on the platform. Doesn't say yet how many hours it'll cover, what languages other than English (Afrikaans? Swahili? Hausa? Zulu? Xhosa?), will it use the Olympic feed sportscasters, and what the names of the 6 channels will be:

Interesting development in Czech Republic and Slovakia with NOVA after an agreement with Nova Group and Skylink. Seems people in both nations will get the Nova channels for the pay-TV/subscription Rio 2016 coverage including Nova Sports 1 and Nova Sports 2 and through Fanda online. Expect there will be Olympic-specific Nova Sports channels like we will see from Viasat:

Further details on how Estonia's TV3 from Viasat got track and field. TV6 may get a piece too interestingly:

NBCSN will show USA's semifinal (assuming they make it) and final group stage match live in the CONCACAF Women's Olympic Tournament. Their second group match and the championship match will be shown on delay on NBCSN. All of the tournament matches will be streamed live on NBC Sports Live Extra. NBC blames the limited coverage on CONCACAF only contacting them two weeks.

Seven Network Australia (aka Channel 7) will broadcast the Mathildas' AFC Olympic women's soccer qualifying campaign starting this month, including all their group games on 7mate as a first on Australian commercial free-to-air TV:

Forgot to add this yesterday along with the Seven Network's historic broadcasting plans for the Matildas in their Asian Olympic endeavours. But NBC Sports will stream all 15 matches of the CONCACAF Olympics women's qualifying tournament from both Dallas and Houston starring of course the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup champs and 3x Olympic champs American women, whose games--at least 4 of them some live and some tape delayed and very likely the semis and final starting February 13 against Mexico--will be on the NBC Sports Network. Why just them? You'd think this will be taken cared of months in advance to show all teams to avoid a limited TV window. But CONCACAF approached NBC Sports two months ago and the realistic televised focus will be on the USA embarking on a new era. So no Canada on US TV:

NBC Live Extra got Olympic trials in table tennis, taekwondo, and cycling with the Dubai Tour this week.

CBC Sports is streaming the 2016 YONEX National Badminton Championships in Winnipeg, Manitoba Saturday.

Canal+ will create an Olympic Games-specific and dedicated channel for Rio 2016 with the maximum of live events shown instead of sending some events to Canal+ and Canal+ Sport already well-stacked with sports events this August. This practice will extend towards Tokyo 2020. Nowdays around the world, there would be multiple channels to cover the Olympics on TV because there's so many events. My guess is there's going to be some synergy with the sportscasters and programming used with France Televisions:

Brazil's recession actually is impacting what Record and more so Band in how it plans and covers Rio 2016. Band is already having series of meetings and what it will cover and being at the Morumbi studios in Rio along with where Band/BandSports will be at the IBC having many of its pros there. Band also promises it will make use of new technology like with cameras:

Apparently, TVN got the Chilean TV rights in a sublicense deal from America Movil. No more UC Canal 13 as a partner. Will the major sportscasters like Fernando Solabarrieta and Pedro Carucaro from TVN Chile (and possibly bring in Karen Bittner) that were present in London be involved? And I hope the coverage will be more extensive (because they're supposed to broadcast 200+ hours for the Summer Olympics) that it ever was while giving special attention Chilean and other Latin American athletes?

Ceske Televize's CT Sport mover and shaker and also sportscaster Vladimir Drbohlav announces in n Internet q & a upon CT Sport's 10th anniversary he will be there for the Opening Ceremony. CT Sport will cover the Czech Republic men's basketball team in their FIBA OQT campaign in Belgrade. CT's Olympic internet streaming will be structured just like with London and Sochi with free access to what TV Nova will offer in theirs. English commentators from the host broadcaster on the CT Olympic streams in Rio are likely for events not shown on CT, CT2, and CT Sport. Financial and logistic burdens prevent CT from providing sportscasters from sports that aren't planned to be covered on Ceske Televize, though extended footage could be used "if the opportunity arises":

Sorry, Quaker2001. Didn't read what dtd2 submitted. Also, it's really Canal 7 for Argentina's response and not Canal 9 unless America Movil appoints that as the free-to-air Rio 2016 Olympics TV channel for Argentina.

No 4KTV footage from Rio this August:

http://advanced-television.com/2016/02/03/no-4k-from-olympic-games/

Sweden's TV3 from the MTG/Viasat realm will launch TV3 Sport in April in an interesting development. Will it air Rio 2016 Olympic coverage in August and thus cover some sports its big brother won't too? Maybe. Right now, take it with a grain of salt:

CBC, Radio-Canada Television, TSN, Rogers Sportsnet, and RDS will broadcast at least a combined 1275 hours of television coverage from Rio 2016

In addition, CBC Radio One and ICI Radio-Canada Première will provide special programming on the radio, with TSN Radio also carrying Olympic Games broadcasts as the Official Affiliate Radio Broadcaster. CBC/Radio-Canada Television will break down each Olympic day into three programming segments, both in English and French. Online and mobile will be immersely digital with 360, VR, multiple camera angles, and video highlights as part of the unprecedented 2000 hours of live coverage. That #OurAthletes initiative for the Toronto 2015 Pan Amercian Games will carry on for Rio. All announced a few days ago in Toronto at the six-month mark:

NBC Deportes.com will carry the CONCACAF Olympic women's soccer tournament in Dallas and Houston with all games online with only one Team USA group game televised on NBC Universo (versus Mexico) along with the semis and final. Interestingly, also says Telemundo will also get involved in the Rio 2016 coverage with both NBC Universo and NBCdeportes.com in Latin American-specific coverage:

http://www.broadwayworld.com/bwwtv/article/NBC-Deportes-to-Present-2016-CONCACAF-WOMENS-OLYMPIC-Qualifying-Tournament-20160208

CBC Sports will stream the Canada's group games online and mobile app with Sportsnet ONE dealing with the knockout stage for the young and hungry squad. CBC Sports will have it own staff to call the matches. Why can't the CBC have it own sports TV channel to place its sports rights in?

So, I made a spreadsheet of the scheduled finals in each of the 300+ medal events in Rio (except for badminton, sailing, and tennis, for which I couldn't get concrete times). I didn't just do the local times, I did what times they would be on the West Coast (where I live) and the East Coast. I discovered that many of the blue-ribbon events, such as in swimming and athletics, would take place just after 10 PM Rio time. This would mean that if NBC showed them live on the East Coast, this would be around 7PM ET (4PM PT). I bring this up because I'm not sure how NBC is going to air their showcase prime-time show each night. In addition to athletics and swimming, their Summer Olympic prime-time shows always include taped coverage of diving, gymnastics, and depending on what happened during the day, a look at a significant gold medal win for Team USA (such as in rowing). Will they do it live in all time zones, like they did for Atlanta 1996? Or will it be live for those in New York and Chicago with tape-delay for Denver and Los Angeles? I'm also curious how they're going to show the athletics finals (aside from the marathons and race walking events) that would take place during the day. For Rio 2016, those are the women's 10,000m, men's discus throw, men's hammer throw, women's 3,000m steeplechase, men's triple jump, women's discus throw, and men's 400m hurdles. I suspect that with the exception of the men's triple jump (where American Christian Taylor is the incumbent Olympic and world champion, and the favorite to repeat in Rio) and maybe the men's 400m hurdles, the closest that they'll get to prime-time will be the late night show, unless the US scores medals in the mentioned events - then they could get prime-time mentions.

All 300 events? Sounds like a more extensive spreadsheet than what I attempted to put together.

NBC is likely going to do with primetime what they've done with recent non-European Olympics.. a live primetime show to the East coast, delayed to the West coast. Primetime will undoubtedly be the usual fare. Swimming and athletics can be shown live. Diving and gymnastics likely on tape from earlier in the day. And plenty of beach volleyball since that stretches towards Midnight on the East coast and should help fill out the schedule nicely. We're not likely to see much else on in primetime. Maybe a highlight or 2 of a key performance by a US athlete, but those have become few and far between in the non-marquee events in recent Summer Olympics. As most of those events will be shown on the cable nets, they won't need to make their way to primetime.

All of the swimming finals are scheduled between 9pm ET and 11pm ET. No question those will all be live. My guess is that the gymnastics coverage will be interspersed with beach volleyball either in the 8pm hour or the 11pm hour. Athletics finals are primarily in the 8pm and 9pm hours (Eastern time), nothing there stretches past 10pm ET. The ones that are held during the day will likely get live coverage. Since they'll be going on during the qualifying sessions, they can easily be shown then.

TV2 Denmark gets itself ready for the upcoming Olympic men's European team handball qualification tournament following the Danish men's team at the Herning's Jyske Bank Box Arena with games against Croatia, Norway, and Bahrain live from April 8-10. This is a Claro Sports promo for Rio 2016. Shows plenty of young Brazilians doing various sporting activities like running, tightrope walking, rollerblading stunts, surfing, beach volleyball, breakdancing, mountain climbing, ballet, diving, and just driving all over Rio De Janeiro. Don't know what the tune is here:

Claro Sports has an Olympic preview program called Destin Rio with a strong focus on Latin American Olympic hopefuls. Would like to show it here but even the promos are geoblocked.

Ten's Mel McLaughlin may join Seven's Rio 2016 coverage. I know she liked her experience at Sochi and wants to replicate that. And she'll likely reprise her studio anchor role unless she gets assigned a sport:

If I read it right, Viasat Sweden's Rio 2016 coverage will be at 2000 TV hours and not 1000, which belongs more to the Winter Olympics. Most comprehensive TV coverage of the Summer Olympics in many nations tend to go closer to a combined 2000 TV hours on multiple channels these days.

A summary of the latest installment of Canal+'s weekly Rio magazine studio preview show:
