Rio 2016 Olympic Media Update

Recommended Posts

wonder for the rio olympics will nbc have to delay the news like in seoul?

NBC's primetime window for the past 3 Summer Olympics has been 8pm-Midnight ET. For Sydney it was 7pm-Midnight. The previous 3 Olympics, it was 7:30pm-Midnight. Not sure what we're looking at for Rio, but considering there will be competition at least some nights past Midnight (11pm ET), stands to reason we're looking at Midnight ET as the end time yet again, although that remains to be seen.

Let's try this again...

SporTV launches its Rio De Janiero Olimpiadas 2016 coverage campaign on April Fool's Day entitled "Somos Todoes Campeoes" ("We Are All Champions") and with it comes a series of promos recalling some of (mostly) Brazil's recent greatest Summer Olympics medal moments that Team Brazil 2016 hosts aims to add many more next year. All culminating with with at least 16 Olympic channels of coverage. Each of them has track superstar Usain Bolt (sportscasted by Luiz Carlos Junior), swimmer Cesar Cielo (Sergio Mauricio), marathoner Vandelei Cordeiro, and judoka Sarah Menezes.

Cesar Cielo wins gold in the men's 50m freestyle at the Cube, becoming the world's fastest male swimmer in Beijing with Mauricio at the call

Sarah Menezes winning gold in London at the ExCel Convention Centre in the 48kg weight class beating reigning Olympic champ Romania's Alina Dumitru and bringing emotion to SporTV commentator Sergio Mauricio--of which his images went viral afterwards

Vanderlei Cordeiro--and that infamous attacker defrocked Irish priest Corneilus "Neil" Horan--running in Athens and perservering from that to win bronze

Usain Bolt in London, further cementing his legend on the track with commentary from Luiz Carlos Junior. Need to have a recent and active global, non-Brazilian Olympic superstar in there. Surely London's Jamaican community was thrilled back then.

Actually Milton Leite covered Cielo's golden 50m swim in Beijing on SporTV.

SporTV, "The Channel of Champions", also gets further into the Rio De Janeiro 2016 special Olympic TV programming mode with some original TV series and news starting at the 500-day mark this month involving Brazil's Olympic champs, legends, teams, and medal hopefuls:

NHK and Ikegami team up for filming select Olympic footage from Rio in 4K, using the latter's cameras and quite possibly onto Tokyo:

CBU signs a memorium of understanding regarding Rio with free-to-air and satelitte television and online coverage plus a dedicated ESPN-produced channel that will surely feature athletics (track and field) with semifinals and finals for the 20-nation/territory Caribbean market (including Central America's Belize and South America's Guyana and Suriname) with plans to send a staff live and direct from Rio De Janeiro:

NBC Sports' Rio 2016 logo grows on me more and more. It's already just mentioned on a separate but related thread here for Rio uploaded a couple days ago (centering on the logo). But I'll still present this to you! Really does capture the pulse and the activity of the city and a little bit of the nation of Brazil. This was made by agency Trollback and Company:

With a brand new structure NBC Sports and USA Wrestling are showing off the sport (both disciplines) on TV in the countdown to Rio:

That's a great find! Looks like NBC has already found the pulse of Brazil. I think this stands to be a great Olympics for them.

..is what I posted in the other thread when bairrosfelipe presented that to us the other day. I know you mentioned the other thread. Just curious if you were aware that video was already shared with the forum here.

I just did this afternoon only because I was so busy yesterday with work.

I just find it funny you even referenced the other thread, but didn't bother to read the new posts there. And it's unlikely you could have made it here without having gone to that page first. So yea, good that you're sharing this with us. But as usual, your sense of timing is pretty bad. So when you're saying "I present this to you," that's really not giving credit to the other person who had already posted it. It makes me wonder sometimes if you actually bother to read other posts here that often or if you just share at will. Case in point how you posted that story about the ratings for the Opening Ceremony of the London Olympics on CTV. I don't get you sometimes. I do appreciate the amount of effort you go through to share information here, but still, it's odd when it's something like this or that.

Along with ESPN, CANOC now enlisted London-based Cable & Wireless Communications to exclusively broadcast the Rio 2016 Olympics on TV, radio, online, and mobile platforms with live feeds and data services that will feature interviews, historical features, profiles and live-action footage of local Caribbean athletes as a result of this unique partnership as well as on-demand footage. this will be served through CWS's LIME and Flow brands to 20 English-speaking Caribbean nations and territories as well as 10 additional non-English-speaking areas like Suriname, Nicaragua, Dominican Republic, and Panama throughout the region with 12 channels, beaming up to 15 million people with over 12 hours a daily of Olympic coverage making it a first for plenty of these nations for pay-TV Olympic coverage (Many Caribbean nations have endured this through the SportsMax channels). Plus, restaurants and bars won't be omitted from this in the form of a blackout. ESPN's production deal will cost US$5 million in adding the international professional quality standards for the material presented

ESPN Brasil aired a 500-day countdown preview special on the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics that includes volleyball legend Ana Moser, judoka Rogerio Sampaio, tennis player Fernando Meligeni, Brazil's (very early) medal outlook as hosts, the Rio Olympic complexes, profiles on brazil's young 2016 Olympic hopefuls. Among other things:

Retreading on NBC's Rio 2016 logo. Not really brand new but still recent, Tijana Pantelic, as it's been unvieled during Super Bowl weekend. As we can all figure out here, not only it's the colors of the Brazilian flag, the colors on the guitar pick-like logo also obviously represent sun (yellow), land (green), and water (blue):

Seven shoring up coverage in Olympic sports now back as "Australia's Olympic Network" starting next year (and with the Commonwealth Games), starting with the Australian TV rights to the next two world swimming championships. Thus ushering a revival in Australian interest in the sport which Aussies famously make legends out of:

Parent company Seven West Media Group becomes one of the Australian Olympic Committee's Official Partners up to Tokyo 2020. Not a shock at all, especially when the upcoming Olympics after Rio will be on more favorable time zones for Australian TV:

Very much a lock that France Televisions' rugby man Mathieu Latort will definitely be there in Rio to call the Olympic rugby sevens:

Only thing TV2 Norge has so far with anything pertaining to Rio 2016 is this program and companion website Heia Brasil! that not only gets Norwegians anticipating about the Summer Olympics but also gets them educated about Brazilian culture, news, and the notable names in it. As you would expect, a Brazilian or two living in Norway will be onboard during the TV2 primary coverage to the Games at the 500-day mark. In this case here, Leo Doria. maybe I'm missing some things here in the latter link. We can expect many of the same personalities that were around for TV2 in Sochi to be there in Rio. interesting in some that it's taking place at a gym interspersed with chin-ups:

South Korea's SBS Sports will return to provide the international signals for Rio 2016's taekwondo and archery just like in London. Before that, it will produce technical services to the quality broadcasting for upcoming international WTF taekwondo competitions starting this month:

Michael Phelps was on hand to help usher in the NBC Sports segment of the NBC 2015-16 season pep rally to advertisers last week in New York with NBC's Sunday Night Football in America and Chris Collinsworth (surely he'll be there down in Rio too). He energized the U-S-A part saying he's faster than ever in the pool.
