Lighting of WYOG flame in Olympia...

OK, for you Olympo-pyro-maniacs out there...just got word from the HOC Press Office that there will be an Innsbruck 2012 Lighting of the Flame at old Olympia.

This will be on the 17th of December 2011 at 11.00 a.m.

Then there is a turnover ceremony to the Innsbruck folks at the Panathenaic Stadium, the place where the 1896 Olympic Games were held -- but they didn't give me a date for that. They didn't say if there was going to be a small relay from Olympia to Athens to bring the flame to the Panathenaic Stadium...or what.

But get your butts over to Greece if you want to witness the FIRST Winter YOGs flame-lighting at Olympia. Am so glad I went to see the Singapore lighting last year -- truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience pour mois.

Despite this was very lazy from Innsbruck (and Vatti) to use the same design, the Innsbruck brand on it doesn't look that bad (its starting to grow in me, while the logo is still dull)

Well I tried to find some more informations about the Lighting Ceremony for Innsbruck 2012 and if there will be a relay from Ancient Olympia to Athens but I didn't find anything :(

/\/\ Thank you very much for posting the above, SwissO!! (It brings back memories of my trip to Olympia (and Athens) in summer 2010!)

(Note: the Panathinaikos Stadium Torch collection, see end of video, apparently only presents the Summer torches, NOT the winter ones. Maybe they're hocking the Winter torches to help with the national debt!:lol::lol: )

I like the visual look, somehow reminds me of Old-school 8 and 16 bit Mario World... brings back positive childhood video game memories :D

As for the torch design, I am happy to see that the expense of a total redesign was not made... the basic shape of the YOG torch should just be part of a handover package carried from one YOG to the next and each organizing committee can use whatever color/graphic template they wish on top of the basic torch shape. One of the big purposes of the YOG was supposedly to reduce costs and handing off the basic torch from one host to the next would be a big help in that goal. Besides, seeing the Singapore and Innsbruck torches side by side they look absolutely nothing alike aside from the physical shape, so they are each very reflective of each games visual identity. But not having to spend many thousands of dollars on design, engineering, and manufacturing processes for a brand new torch design every 2 years would greatly reduce costs.

Although i'm not interested much with these WYOG, I gotta admit the visual identity (except the logo) is pleasing. Me being a fan of videogames, can't help but like the pixelated look. :P

By the way that cauldron behind looks a lot like the Bergisel Stadium one (on where the ceremonies will be done..wonder how they'll make it with such a tiny space)

Also, don't forget Guadalajara 2011. They kinda recycled the YOG torch base as well although with some minor changes

Same goes for Guangzhou 2010 Torch.

Maybe because the four torches were made by chinese company Vatti.

That's probably the cheapest place to get several hundreds of torches now. It's where cheap Chinese labor comes in.

PS: Does anybody knows anything about the OC? I really can't find anything except it will be on Bergisel Arena.
