Athensfan Posted October 15, 2011 Report Posted October 15, 2011 Aha..... I did not realize I was looking at amateur mock-ups. I am sorry. I feel like I jumped the gun with my pronouncements. Thank you for pointing that out Rob. Please forgive me.
Rob2012 Posted October 15, 2011 Report Posted October 15, 2011 I might be wrong (I'm sure Dan can let us know if he re-appears) but I think it's likely they're drawings done after seeing maybe the Mario and Sonic 2012 trailer (they look almost exactly the same as the venue decorations in the video game). So, if the game is representative, they might be quite close to some aspects of the final Look. But how close, who knows, and whether there is more to come to complement these basics if they are indeed part of the Look, again who knows?
Athensfan Posted October 15, 2011 Report Posted October 15, 2011 Got it. I guess we'll just have to be patient, wait and see....
Mr Tickle Posted October 25, 2011 Author Report Posted October 25, 2011 Im liking this, it looks fresh, bold and striking. More like this please

DarJoLe Posted November 1, 2011 Report Posted November 1, 2011 Blue and pink for hockey I would guess?

Athensfan Posted November 28, 2011 Report Posted November 28, 2011 Just looks like a continuation of what we've already seen. Same lurid colors and jagged shards.
oakydoky Posted November 29, 2011 Report Posted November 29, 2011 Designer Matt Bridge's designs applied to London 2012 merchandise:
deawebo Posted November 29, 2011 Report Posted November 29, 2011 the Wenlock's one is the best post card... The other ones are pretty much boring. But like the one that shows the city and one with the UK flag.
paul Posted November 29, 2011 Report Posted November 29, 2011 I agree the table tennis shop is brilliant looking! I still think there is going to be something bigger coming, or when all the bits come together it will have more power.
The Tower Bridge Fox Posted November 30, 2011 Report Posted November 30, 2011 The Zingy Londmark designs are great.
deawebo Posted December 1, 2011 Report Posted December 1, 2011 The color do not help on the desings... They are boring colors. Just reminds me of a 80's movie.
Athensfan Posted December 1, 2011 Report Posted December 1, 2011 The movie Drive was cool 80's retro. The London look...not so much.
bgdrewsif Posted December 1, 2011 Report Posted December 1, 2011 Am I the only one that literally cannot look at the London color scheme without wincing in pain from the colors? Seriously, it actually physically hurts my eyes to look at those garishly contrasting colors for more than a few seconds... Anyone? Eh? edit: ... Especially the blue and pink... the Hockey pitch is horrendous... cant even look at it...

Seriously, it actually physically hurts my eyes to look at those garishly contrasting colors for more than a few seconds... Anyone? Eh? edit: ... Especially the blue and pink... the Hockey pitch is horrendous... cant even look at it... You're not alone. I honestly feel queasy and anxious looking at the London look. No hyperbole. It's almost a hostile aesthetic. The look is almost angry, violent-looking.... Those blinding colors and sharp, jagged shards -- it's almost as if it was intended to cause stress.
Olympian2004 Posted December 1, 2011 Report Posted December 1, 2011 I don't see the drama in all this. OK, the colours are quite garish, but not really hurtful to one's eyes (at least not to mine). I feared a much worse design after the logo unveiling video in 2007 with all those wildly-patterned garish ribbons flying through the picture and with all those wild blinking effects which caused seizures for some viewers. I also don't say that London's look is the best ever in Olympic history. But it's OK for me.
Lee Posted December 1, 2011 Report Posted December 1, 2011 I agree with the use of color and the designs on those postcards. They are not at all friendly on the eye and are indeed quite garish. However, for some reason I don't mind the pink/blue hockey pitches but the jury is still out on how it will look on tv. I also think the vibrant colours will look much better when spread around the park. I guess I have a bigger problem with the colour/design of some of these promotional materials. I like the logo but have never liked the jagged outline design on some of these other promo pieces. They just look harsh, quite brutal and the colour really does not help here. Don't even get me started on that bridge to the north of the stadium, it does look like somebody has thrown up all over it. I am hoping all of this will come together in some way. I still think it could.
mattygs Posted December 1, 2011 Report Posted December 1, 2011 I find the look displayed so far inoffensive, but bland. It's effective and does the job, but does not live up to the billing that was given to the whole look design. Jagged shard....ooooooh....... only in London. I mean, it's just nothing special. I certainly don't find it ugly and Im not really all that fussed on the colours (they're ok), but I was just expecting something abit more. I see no real concept there, but it's not as if there is design merit to compensate for the lack of. I like the landmark series with the lines coming off the shapes, but still, it's not enough. Just doesn't excite me like the Athens design panorama, or even the unique concept of the Torino piazza. I do however think it will look decent on the field of play... it will do the job, just not quite what I was expecting.
DarJoLe Posted December 1, 2011 Report Posted December 1, 2011 These colours are great. I mean, anyone who has watched MTV, T4 or any other teen video channels will have seen this kind of thing going on- jaggy edges, attention grabbing colour and all manner of whizzy effects in this fast paced world. I mean look at how X Factor is produced- nothing stays static for too long, it's all cut jumps and endless movement. Nobody is going to forget these Games when they're on, and when they're finished. They will overpower, consume and grab so much attention with so much colour and movement. Imagine the photos taken at these Games if this is the strength of colour being used at the venues !
