FYI
Equally, France, Germany, Italy & Russia would like to keep their 2024 options open & vote for Tokyo or even Istanbul. So if anything, it's a wash & doens't really enhance Madrid's chances.
deawebo
I don't think that may be a storng argument in favour for Madrid... Istanbul's third airport is also a reality, and it is gonna help to control crowds on Ataturk/Sabina Airports. Actually today Istanbul bid team stated that by 2020 the traffic jams will be reduced by 30% with heavy invests in public transportation. 7 years are a lot of time. jawnbc
We will know when the eval report comes out, what sort of final race this will be. If there's nothing that derails any of the bids it may well come down to geopolitics and personal relationships. And the impact of the final presentations Which I think was Paris 2012's undoing, as well as Pyeonchang 2014's. Istanbul weak points: Kurds and Syria and ground transport. Madrid weak points: timing (Europe) and economy. Tokyo weak points: economy and natural disaster recovery. Never would've picked London 2012 over Paris and was proven sooo wrong (perhaps the best OSGs ever). Nor Sochi 2014 over Pyeonchang and am still doubtful (technically sound OWGs lacking warmth is my prediction).

Assuming all things are relatively equal in the Evaluation Report, I think these are the weaknesses that will factor in coming down the home stretch: Istanbul weak points: transportation, spread out venues. Madrid weak points: Barcelona '92, economy. Tokyo weak points: lack of sex appeal.
pcelica
It's time for Madrid. I really hope they will host these games despite all economics problems that Spain has. Another reason why I want Madrid is Toronto 2024. I wouldn't like Tokyo because of time difference. Istanbul has great venues, money, good atmosphere, but they aren't still enough safe for me. Madrid has nice infrastructure, not only sports infrastructure, every competition in Spain always has good atmosphere and don't doubt they can do it well. Hala, Madrid

runningrings
no chances for Belgrade Maybe not "no" chances, but certainly not as high as neighbouring cities like Budapest or Vienna for the Summer Olympics or Sarajevo for a future second Winter Games. Are there any ski resorts in Serbia? Perhaps a Winter Olympics could be more appropriate for Belgrade.

Vienna doesn't want games Budapest has more chances, sure Sarajevo doesn't have chances in next 50 years if we observe economy there are, but they aren't enough good for winter OG, and i doubt anyone would like to spend money to bulild everything for winter og + winter sports are very undeveloped and 10% of nation follows them
snowmadsam
Personally I think it will be between Madrid and Tokyo for 2020, but thats my opinion It would be nice to see it go to Spain as they have bidded 4 times within 20 years now Sam

Except, they won in the first one (Barcelona 1992), thanks to some inside manipulation. Istanbul is bidding for the 5th time...and still haven't won. So, how can your (il)logic work? olympiaki-agones
And after that anti-doping scandal and languished economy, I think it'll be embarrassing for the Madrid 2020 team to defend their bid

Michelinternational
Interesting report from mexican IOC member Olegario Vázquez Raña; EL PAÍS spanish newspaper. Fast transcription with google translator (and some corrections) about the most important information: "Everybody hold one´s cards close to the chest, that only serve to make enemies," he explained in conversation with this newspaper one of the members of the IOC, the Peruvian Ivan Dibos. In his view, each vote goes to "friends", which can harm the favorite in the first cut. "I have great fear of the second vote," added another IOC member, the Mexican Olegario Vazquez Rana, who believes that Tokyo will be the first to fall and Madrid's play against Istanbul. Vazquez Rana is delighted with the work of lobbying by Don Felipe de Borbón. "I have doubts about the vote of at least three or four Latino members, but after having spoken to the Prince, I will back to Madrid," he explained yesterday, while Don Felipe chatted a few feet away with a prince of Malaysia, a member of the Jordanian royal family and a prominent Sikh Indian. On the vote of the European countries is not so optimistic: "50% will back to Madrid. The others want to try it in 2024 or 2028, maybe Paris and the Spanish candidacy would prevent it ". Other sources, however, outlined the U.S. could unravel in a few days its aspiration to organize in Los Angeles or New York the 2024 Games, which inclined the European votes to Madrid by subtracting future options. http://ccaa.elpais.com/ccaa/2013/07/03/madrid/1372836598_461970.html

Treo
This is what the german media is saying right now about the bid presentations in Lausanne: http://www.sport.de/medien/3008f-17b979-548f-15/punktsieg-fuer-madrid-im-kampf-um-olympia-2020.html "Victory Point for Madrid in race for 2020 olympiad Madrid's battle for the 2020 Olympics made up ground on Istanbul and Tokyo. After a 45 minute long presentations of the three candidate cities for the extraordinary IOC Assembly in Lausanne, and now the race is considered to be more open than ever. The Spanish Crown Prince Felipe gave an emotional speech. "Today is a very important day for us," said Alejandro Blanco, President of the Madrid application. The 125 General Assembly of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) is on 7 September in Buenos Aires, and will select the host of the spectacle in seven years' time. "All three cities have a different approach. At the end of each IOC member will have to decide for himself what he wants for the future of the Olympic Games," said the German IOC member Claudia Bokel. As a member of the evaluation that had visited all three cities." Well, this was unexpected, and apparently they even got a standing ovation and everything at the end of the bid team presentation, seems like Madrid is not that out of the race...
