walei
Well, at the end of the day Vancouverites are still "Canadians". A bunch of them (about 17000) took up upon themselves to clean up the rioting areas by bringing their own brooms, plastic bags and rubber gloves. Some posted message online to apologize to Boston fans for the ugly behaviors that happened in Vancouver Link Messages on the boarded up windows This is Vancouver Those that caused havoc are not true fans. True fans are those who stood up in the arena and cheered when Boston was handed the cup, and cheered when Tim Thomas was awarded the MVP trophy. Sir Rols
This goes to show how messed-up some people are in Vancouver: From CBC: Seems the guy (could be) a red-blooded Aussie! Vancouver kiss man an Aussie: mumThe man photographed in a passionate embrace with a woman in the middle of riots in Vancouver is an Australian, according to a Perth woman who has contacted ninemsn. Speculation has been rife around the world about who the kissing couple are since the striking image was published this morning. Hannah Jones, from Perth, has come forward saying the man in the shot is her 29-year-old brother Scott, who has been living and working in the Canadian city for six months. Ms Jones said her brother had recently started dating the girl in the photo, identified as Alex Thomas, who is a Canadian. And his mother, Megan Jones, was shocked to spot her son lying in the middle of the street. "It is something he would do, that's our boy. He has always lived in his own world, he's special like that. He doesn’t always connect with what going on around him. "I knew it was him because he doesn't have a lot of clothes with him and he always puts on the same thing. "I'd have to have my house flooded to get on the news, but he just has to kiss a beautiful girl," she said. The riot escalated when rampaging ice hockey fans, angry after their beloved Vancouver Canucks team lost a finals game, begun trashing the city. Mrs Jones said her son had been at the game. "He's over there having the time of his life, quite clearly," she said. "But he told me recently that he was coming back with the best souvenir ever in Alex." Mr Jones, who has an older brother and two younger sisters, has been performing a live stand-up show while travelling, and his mum does not think this will do him any harm at all. "It certainly gives him more material for his routine," she said. "But I don’t think he would have planned it. He doesn’t think like that. He just reacts and the whole world goes on around him. Teachers always said he didn’t engage with what's going on." Hannah Jones said she was reading the story on ninemsn when she did a double-take after seeing the photo. "I was just like, 'that's my brother," the 21-year-old told ninemsn. "I went on his Facebook page and saw all his mates had left messages. I couldn't believe it. It's all over the world." Mr Jones' friends immediately wrote on his Facebook page. One message ran: "Scotty, do you realise how massive this is? You're front page of ninemsn." Another wrote: "You keep getting played on the news. You're famous!" Mr Jones posted a reply saying: "Classic! This was shortly after the riot police run over the top of us and naturally Alex needed some comforting." NineMSN
Kenadian
You want to punish the good sports fans of the city for the misdeeds of a few rotten apples? No. Punish the miscreants. And harshly! Their faces and pics are in smartphones and videos all over the place. And the Vancouver Police Department is happy to accept them. And you can't expect normal every day citizens to try and stop this. Most of them fled, fearing for their safety. And wisely so. A few people who tried to stop the damage got hurt. Durban Sandshark
Another example of Vancouver rioters not just young men. A couple of young women apparently deciding to bring a little Mardi Gras in this (minus the beads) on top of the police cars. Another is seen angrily smashing one of the Vancouver Police cars with many guys beating it to bits and burning them., despite one guy trying to stop it all. Amazing how multicultural and multiethnic this rioting was. Isn't humanity grand? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1xWZOfNhwqk Sad thing is, this would've happened anyway even if the Canucks won the Stanley Cup. Because it was on the west coast, a lot of the damage was in broad daylight, live on TV. Vancouver should've won that night, but this great, beautiful, multicultural, and cosmopolitan city surely is not proud. It's soooooooooooo easy to find the perpetrators with Facebook, MySpace, YouTube, and camera phones these days to get incriminated.

Yeah, but will VPD really devote the resources to round them up? They'll grow beards, dye their hair, change their appearance for awhile, put on or remove facial rings; go into hiding, move, etc... So I'm wondering what the successful roundup rate will be?
TheOtherRob
There are a few things that could be done which wouldn't hurt the team but might focus a few minds: Ban pubs in the immediate vicinity or in potential troublespots from televising the game Force the club to play a certain number of fixtures behind closed doors Increase police presence and crowd control measures outside the stadium Threaten the club with a suspended ban from competition Schedule potentially troublesome games earlier in the day so people aren't fuelled on booze Ban the sale of alcohol in the streets surrounding the stadium or in potential troublespots for a couple of hours before and after the game I'm sure there are other things as well, but these are a few ideas which which were suggested in Glasgow for Old Firm matches. Yeah, I suppose we Canadians could've adopted a thing or two from the British/European soccer hooligan experiences... Anyway, I hope the VPD round up everyone involved in the riots and jail them... actually, that means my tax money will be feeding those idiots while they're in jail. Just fine them... fine them lots. Kenadian
People are being identified on Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and other social media sites and many of them by their own posts. Stupid people. I was shocked the other night. I was sad yesterday. Today, I am angry! This just didn't happen in my city. This happened in my neighbourhood. This happened on the street I live on. I watched it from my apartment where I was hosting a party with friends. But the vast majority of this madness was caused by outsiders. People who do not live in or pay taxes in Vancouver. We wouldn't do this to our own backyard. We invited them in - just as we do for the fireworks and the Olympics and every other event - but they came in from other parts of the region and from other towns and cities in BC and they terrorized their hosts - my friends and my neighbours and the same people who always welcome everyone in for such celebrations. They shamed only themselves (although they have none). Edited June 17, 2011 by Kenadian
SkiFreak
Look at this moron for example, this was posted on the Canucks message board... Post #487: http://forum.canucks.com/topic/307949-rioting-in-vancouver-tonight/page__view__findpost__p__9799132 How about this one? Nathan Kotylak, a Grade 12 student at Meadowridge School, has been named to the Canadian national water polo program’s U-18 development program this summer, the only athlete from B.C. to get an invite. ... At the U-18 national club championships last year, Kotylak and his Fraser Valley Water Polo Club took gold, with Kotylak grabbing all-star honours. Earlier this month, Kotylak and his Meadowridge Gryphons beat out a team made up of players from Garibaldi and Maple Ridge secondary schools in an all-local provincial final. Kotylak was named MVP. After a month in Montreal for national team evaluations, Kotylak will have a chance to travel to Europe to represent Canada in U-18 play. In addition to receiving a partial scholarship through Water Polo Canada to attend school at the University of Calgary, where he plans to study kinesiology, Kotylak also qualified for an academic scholarship from the school itself thanks to his good grades. “Last year my goal was to make the national team and I did that,” said Kotylak. “They say your first year in the [national development program] is the toughest, so I want to get through it and learn as much as I can.” Ultimately, Kotylak has his eyes on the Olympic team. “That’s my goal,” he said. Good family, father is a surgeon So why do this? Say goodbye to a scholarship and your Olympic dream, Nathan. Perhaps your goal now Goes to show you how brain dead young people are in the world these days. Or take this idiot:

Faster
Skifrek: Police charges aren't exactly a big deal with Canadian universities. As long as crimes are not committed on campus or involve academic integrity it doesn't matter. Not to meantion I would be absolutely shocked if the Canadian men qualified for the Olympics.
