If you look Jimbo does actually mention both the Azteca and the Maracana in the post below that list.

I'd also add the Indianapolis Motor Speedway if were including race tracks and the Shea stadium if only for the Beatles concert, probabley the most famous stadium gig ever next to Live Aid a Wembley.

I noticed that afterwards. Serves me right for skipping straight to the last page.

I think ultimately any stadium which hosts a World Cup Final will gain worldwide recognition. I bet more people around the world know of the Pasadena Rose Bowl near Los Angeles, because of 1994, than almost any other venue in the States. But maybe not the match that made it famous, eh? Man, that was a bore.

Possibly the dullest World Cup final of all time.

Often finals are not the best matches during a tournament. There is to much stress durin gthe finals. Maybe the womens Olympic handball final in Athens 2004 was the best final ever. After two extra times, penalty shots decided the game between Denmark and South-Korea. It was a very good match!

Well going to the toilet is a social event for women - they have a completely different lavatorial etiquette to men - look straight forward, don't make eye contact, try not to be tempted to compare yourself with the man at the urinal next to you.

The new Wembley stadium is due for completion 2006 and will host the Football finals only. Here are some stats:

1. With 90,000 seats the new Wembley will be the largest football stadium in the world with every seat under cover. There will be NO obstructed views.

Ah nope on that one - Estadio Azteca in Mexico City has over 110,000 seats - and while there is no roof as such, the awning does cover the whole seating area.  Obviously as the sun moves across the sky some seats are in direct sublight - but technically they are all covered.

The new Wembley will be the largest fully enclosed stadium when the roof is closed - but there are at least 3 stadia in Latin America with higher seating capacity.

As for unobstructed views - hundreds of stadiums can claim this.

While it is an impressive stadium, the attached hyperbole is bullsh!t.

this aerial of the azteca shows there are large parts of the end stands that arent under cover

I believe wembley will be the largest football stadium fully enclosed in terms of capacity and accommodation area and there arent many 90,000 + capacity stadia that are fully enclosed and have unobstructed views.

:)
