Aronious
120million pounds (or 360m AU, or 300US..roughly) is a bit pricey for a make over. Though it would have been good to see somewhere like Crystal Palace redeveloped into a National Stadium. Speaking of prices of large stadia, Vancouver 2020 please note the price. Robert Henson
Regarding London's bid and stadium design: the American Jerry Anderson, a senior partner in the stadium design and event planning company HOK Sport, which is working on the blueprint for the proposed Olympic stadium and other venues. Mr Anderson has advised organisers of the Olympics in Atlanta and Sydney and claims that London is already ahead. "I am very impressed with the progress," he said. "Plans are at the same stage as they would be a year into full Olympic mode and are at a parallel with Beijing's masterplan. This bid is really rock solid. There is a depth of knowledge and professionalism we don't see in other bids.

I believe HOK Sports also designed the Sydney 2000 stadium. Though, it seems London is going on a “wow” campaign before the vote. Why aren’t we seeing this from other bids? arwebb
Surely all the bids have spin happening like this. Nice to hear from our perspective, though.

From what I’ve heard… yes they do, but not to the public extensiveness that London has gone too… well done to the organisers.

kerrybymoonlight
I really do love the innovation of the Stadium design - sort of anticipates the promise (?) of the scientific age.
LA84
I see one problem with the plans  What if Liz has the royal patio set (complete with umbrella) installed on her balcony so she can sit out with a gin and tonic and watch the marathon pass by her castle? Won't all the runners have to stop and bow/curtsy before continuing on? :hmm: :laughlong:

baron-pierreIV
Wouldn't London weather be a little chilly for "beach volleyball" -- esp. under the eyes of Buckingham Palace? Or would Philip enjoy it particularly?
pricemazda
Errr no, it would be fine. London weather is just the same as the rest of Northern Europe. Paris, Amsterdam, London the weather is all the same.

arwebb
There is a story in today's Sunday Mirror that says Tottenham are looking at moving to the Olympic Stadium or the new Wembley, as there isn't enough room to redevelop White Hart Lane and they don't want to be left behind by Arsenal's new ground at Ashburton Grove. bigdavejb
I think they may have to make Ken Livingstone and Seb Coe Tottenham fans before they got their hands on the Olympic Stadium.
Mick The Mick
Arwebb, I think you could be on the right track here. Despite all the fine sentiments in the Bid Book about down-scaling the stadium and having a "home" for British athletics, etc, etc, I can't help but suspect that, if London were to win the right to hold the Olympics that the stadium plan post-games would be "adjusted" with Spurs and/or West Ham moving in as tenants. Why? 1. Economic sense - it costs money to both down-scale and then maintain a stadium, and the old Golden League meeting, or European meeting isn't going to cut it. 2. Planning sense - Both clubs, especially Spurs right now in few of West Ham's current plight, need to build or move. And remember that Ken's planning and transport departments have repeatedly snubbed Spurs' efforts to extend the tube to WHL and thereby make an expansion on the present site more feasible. If they don't move to the Olympic Stadium, where? 3. Domestic "political" sense - in the UK in general and in London in particular, the Ghost of White Elephants Past still haunts this bid - aka the Dome - so a strong post-games use would make it more palatable, even for Arsenal fans like myself. 4. IOC "political" sense - I don't buy this thing about the IOC or IAAF wanting the UK to have an athletics home, for a start a 20,000 seater hardly appeals to the IAAF from a World Champioships standpoint, and the Golden League meetings are already held in major stadiums in Berlin and Paris. A downscaled London stadium? Not that appealing, thank you. Also, does the IOC knock the Madrid bid for wanting to install Atletico Madrid en la Peineta post-Games? The only people who would grumble would be a few athletics anoraks and, possibly, a few die-hard Spurs or Hammers fans. But, guys, take a look at Man City, who wouldn't have swapped Maine Road for their new stadium?
