Perhaps, provided that the US musters up a logical bid, i.e Denver or Lake Placid (Tri-Lakes) and not RENO! :P.

Denver? Non-starter. I hope the locals don't even want to go there!!

Reno? How do you know? Have you ever been there? Plus, the town is only 1/2 the equation. Those other nuts don't know what they're talking about. The Tahoe slopes and scenery are much superior to anything Garmisch can put up.

Lake Placid? Yeah...in your fantasy contests.

Oh please, such biased idiocy from Athensfan whose stupid SUMMER USA dream will not come true in the NEXT 40 years!!.... /\ Reno is a trend-starter in global political movements of conscience!! Th

For 2022 I'm quite sure that Europe will make it. It's the very fist time that there are 3 consecutive winter games not held in Europe with Vancouver in NA and Sochi and PC in Asia (sure Sochi is part

It has been explained to you COUNTLESS times already "why", but you, just like your "pathetic" lost brother Tulsa, REFUSE/WON'T listen. And what's most "pathetic" of all, is that you're suppose to be

They say we'll hear from Quebec City this week, but if the answer is anything but "no", they are only setting themselves up for failure.

No city takes one week to decide especially in Canada so I am thinking the answer will be a now. If they were going for the 2020/2024 summer games then it would be fine (will never happen before a Toronto SOG). But the decision for 2022 takes five years after the 2010 Games would the IOC want to go there so soon? Answer is an absolute no.

Bach to the Sochi discussion: First of all it's completely senslsess to talk about on which continent Sochi is located because there is no rotation systeme like at FIFA world cup. So two consecutive olympics in Asia - why not... ;)

But as the Kuma–Manych Depression is the European-Asian border, Sochi is located in Asia (geographically speaking). And if you take the Caucasus as the border, you will find Sochi still in Asia as it is in the south of the Caucasus.

Back to the 2022 olympics: I'm not sure if an American bid would be successful because we had the last North American games 2010 in Vancouver, but the last (real) European games in 2006. And as I already said, since Ibk 1976 we've had 4 NA games (therefrom 3 rockies games) but only 2 Alps games. So I think the Alps bids are the favourites and therefrom Munich is far ahead at the moment.

But we will see... ;) Maybe Qatar will host next winter games, who knows...

Munich 2022 will FAIL. My tarot cards just told me.

I agree that it's senseless to define where Sochi lies. It's not like the IOC would dig THAT deeply into geography.

As for Quebec, if they do have the goods to host, I'd like to see Quebec to host a OWG after Toronto's summer one. I didn't exist when Montreal hosted in 76, and I think a OWG in Quebec will give the French Canadians a 'voice' and showcase their cultural identity to the World and the rest of Canada. Even though I was raised in Toronto, I always thought the Francophone are as important to Canada's roots and identity as the Anglophone or the Natives. Something a good number of Canadians don't always appreciate IMHO...

But Reno has 2 dud indoor venues, that possibly need major alterations to even fit an ice rink. It also has a convention center that seems insignificant and lack luster. It would have a hard time selling either a permanent or temporary ski jump and sliding track.

Oh and btw, I have been to the obviously better known Las Vegas. :P

A Lake Placid bid would always focus on it's strengths, a compact bid, but more importantly the fact that the Ski Jumps, Sliding Center and Biathlon/Cross Country course already exist along with the main slopes.

Lol, USA hosted WOG in 2002 and Canada in 2010. Do you really IOC look that much on Sochi as Europe when there are European countries as Sweden who NEVER has hosted a WOG. If we should look at geography then USA should fail beg time not, Munich and Europe. I mean NA hosted it by 8 years apart, but you say Europe can't do that. Especially when stronger winter nations still haven't hosed it??? Loooooo, just lol!

Annecy is similar with Lake Tahoe, scenery is superior than Garmish or Pyeongchang and we have lost... Even Lake Tahoe is a perfect venue you should think differently, IOC doesn't care if your venues are superior with the best scenery... You must have the most compact bid and the most expensive...

Munich isn't very sexy to WoG but it's a strong bid... be careful with this kind of bid.

Not that I think Munich 2022 won't have a chance (I think they will be the favorites really...), but Canada won the most gold medals ever in Vancouver, and USA won the most overall medals ever. As the record shown from Vancouver 2010, OWG powerhouses are the two in North America.

So now we are counting the golds and medals to host WOG?? Ok, what are the rules?? Do you need to have most medals the previous olympics to host. Or maybe 20 golds??? So now all host nations should have 20 golds or something like that.

in 2006, Canada and USA weren't that dominating. GERMANY win the medal table!!!!! Yes I say it again, MUNICH country WON the table 2006 with most golds ands most medals. NOT USA and Canada.

In 2006, Canada 7 golds, that's what Sweden also had. DOMINATING, hell NO!! Canada can't even dominate their own national soprt ice hockey. SWEDEN dominated that sport.

Also take a look at the medal table for Lillehammer 1994. NA dominated??? WTF?? Three European nations were better than both USA and Canada. Four if we count Russia in it. Sweden had a pretty bad Olympics but still Canada had only one gold more. Dominating? Ha ha ha!! And who won the gold in Canada's national sport again??? Yes SWEDEN!!!

1998, three European countries, with Russia, were better than Canada and USA.

2002, Europe once again won the table with Norway and Germany IN USA!!!!!!!!! USA can't even dominate in own WOG. A little country with 4,5 millions people kick NA's asses in almost every WOG.

Canada only won the table 2010 because it was held in Canada. If Canada didn't host it then they shouldn't be on the top. Say if Sweden get a chance to host it then how should then how should lokk like?? Not NA on top I'm sure!! Norway, Sweden, Russia, Germany could all be ahead of NA in the table.

Go home to your fantasy world. Europe, with Germany and Norway in the lead, is the real WOG superpowers. That's why I don't want to see any more NA Olympics in a long time. The European countries should get the chances, But I understand you, Canada can only win icehockey in their own continent. LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL!

Don't forget Austria, another historical winter powerhouse.

Every country has good games and bad games, but you are right, those European countries are the tradional winners. Anyway, I don't think anyone is saying that the numbers of medals won should determine rights of hosting.

Austria... nope, don't thnik so... a bid would be a big surprise for me...

Which city should/could bid?

Salzburg? ... they won't bid for the next decades as I already explained in this thread.

Innsbruck? ... already hosted 3 winter olympics (including this completley senseless youth games next winter), more than any other city, so do they really have a chance to host the games again in the next years?

Klagenfurt? ... well, why not, they already bidded for 2006, but Carinthia is the Greece of Austria at the moment (although Rome and Madrid are also bidding for 2020 despite of financial problems...)

Graz? ... probably too far away from real winter sports resorts. I could imagine a joint bid with Schladming/Ramsau, but the distance between those venues would be quite big.

The two other larger Austrian cities - Vienna and Linz - aren't "winter cities" and the mountains are too far away.

And I don't know if smaller cities or villages like Kitzbühel for example have real chances, I can't really imagine.

Winter sports most powerhouse is Germany beyond Russia, Norway, USA, Canada.

Gold / Overall

2010 2nd / 2nd

2006 1st / 1st

2002 2nd / 1st

1998 1st / 1st

1994 3nd / 2st

1992 1st / 1st

Summer Games and Winter Games are different. Winter sports market will be limited in Western Europe and North America(USA and Canada only), Asia(Japan only). So, a lot of opportunities in USA and Canada is inevitable.

China and Eastern Europe (Russia, Bulgaria, Poland, Ukraine, Turkey, Slovakia) will become a new market in the future. And the domestic market in Korea, Kazakhstan.

I think European countries as Sweden, Swiitzerland and Germany should host it before NA host again. You say lot of opportunities for canada and USA is invitable. I don't think so. Sweden has never hosted it. We can be a great host.... It strange NA get this many WOG's when counries as Sweden still never hosted it.

Yeah, I was just a typical talking. I support Winter Games in Sweden any time. Sweden already has six times the challenge. But all failed. I do not know why. Sweden 2022 will bid ?

It's still not decided if Sweden will bid for 2022. But they discuss it and after South Korea won the 2018 bid the chances for Sweden 2022 bid is much much bigger.

LOL Pillan CHILL. Where did I ever say # of medals are a criteria for winning the hosting rights?

That's right I didn't. Learn to read.

YOU are the one that said why should North America host 8 years apart and Europeans can't when there are "Stronger nations" without ever hosting once.

Allow me to say, LOL...just LOOOOOOOL.

Spin it whatever way you want and things may change in Sochi. However as of Vancouver 2010, Canada won the most Gold and USA won the most medals over all. Europeans aren't "stronger" than North Americans. Why don't you just lie to yourself and say China isn't a Summer Sport power too because ZOMG they don't win ANY medals until the 80's!!!!!!
