I cannot imagine having Rogge and Coe wear "druid clothing" during his opening speech for London 2012 in that kind of setting. You know, a podium platform shaped in a form of Stonehenge, in remote comparison to the way Athens 2004 used the olive tree as the backdrop during those opening speeches by Rogge and Gianna. Sir Rols Posted November 10, 2006 Report Share Posted November 10, 2006 Here's the latest "official" icons to add to the list: By John-Paul Ford Rojas LONDON, Nov 9 PA - The Tube map, the red telephone box, Doctor Who and English weather are among 21 new ``icons of England'' announced today. They also include roast beef and Yorkshire pudding, Winnie the Pooh, and the stiff upper lip. It is the third set of cultural treasures to be announced by the online Government-backed Icons prot. Bosses say more than 800,000 people have visited the website, among them teachers who use the icons for classroom discussion. It is also hoped that the site can be used to encourage tourists to visit the country. The icons were nominated by members of the public before being selected by a panel of experts. The latest were: Winnie the Pooh; Westminster Abbey; stiff upper lip; narrowboats on canals; cheddar; Rolls Royce; English weather; the Tube map; the V-sign; the robin; the Peak District; Iron Bridge; Guy Fawkes Night; Doctor Who; Sergeant Pepper; the Thames; the red telephone box; the rose; Wimbledon; roast beef and Yorkshire pudding; and Mrs Beeton's Book of Household Management. Among the first 12 icons announced in January were the Windrush, a cup of tea, and the Routemaster bus, while a further 21 selected in April included Brick Lane, the mini skirt, York Minster, and the pub. Jerry Doyle, managing director of Icons, said: ``All the icons chosen for a place of honour in the Icons collection are developing into a vibrant portrait of England.'' The project is funded by Culture Online, part of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. PA I guess there'll be a few Doctor Who fans here happy at his inclusion!
