neige Posted April 30, 2011 Report Posted April 30, 2011 Today was the "big" demonstration of the anti Annecy 2018 group. 50 people demonstrated in Annecy streets. It is clearly an unsuccess for the opponents.
baron-pierreIV Posted April 30, 2011 Report Posted April 30, 2011 Well, I think many people stayed home too because of the ROyal Wedding and they KNOW that Annency is a lost cause??
Rob2012 Posted May 1, 2011 Report Posted May 1, 2011 For all their bluster that's pretty rubbish. That's one worry out of the way at least.
neige Posted May 1, 2011 Author Report Posted May 1, 2011 Well, I think many people stayed home too because of the ROyal Wedding and they KNOW that Annency is a lost cause?? The royal wedding was on the day before (fryday) Then, Kate and William spent their honey moon in Annecy, on the most beautifull lake of Europe
baron-pierreIV Posted May 1, 2011 Report Posted May 1, 2011 the most beautifull lake of Europe Yes, COMO is the MOST beautiful lake in Europe.
neige Posted May 2, 2011 Author Report Posted May 2, 2011 Yes, COMO is the MOST beautiful lake in Europe. hmmm...not sure...Como lake, Lugano lake, lake major, Annecy lake... All of them are really beautiful. But only one is 1H from Chamonix-Mt-Blanc, only one has world cup biathlon and nordic venues just beside. It is Annecy lake
baron-pierreIV Posted May 2, 2011 Report Posted May 2, 2011 But only one is 1H from Chamonix-Mt-Blanc, only one has world cup biathlon and nordic venues just beside. It is Annecy lake What do a biathlon and nordic venues have to do with the beauty of the lake?
Tulsa Posted May 2, 2011 Report Posted May 2, 2011 What do a biathlon and nordic venues have to do with the beauty of the lake? When I watch on my TV an event I prefer when i have beautifull landscape than something without atmosphere Chamonix has the Mont Blanc and authentic mountain village, Annecy has the lake, the old city and mountains... A great landscape to howt WoG

A great landscape to howt WoG Then u're really more interested in ATMOSPHERE rather than the core sport. Not enough to stop PyongChang, Tulsa. BTW, France didn't WIN a single medal at the just-concluded Figure Skating World Championships in Moscow. These were the LAST IMPORTANT winter sport champs BEFORE THE 2018 selection date in Durban in 2 months. Korea's Yuna Kim won silver in the Ladies. (Canada, USA, Japan, Russia - 2 medals each; China, Germany, Italy, Korea - 1 ea.) Where's France?
neige Posted May 2, 2011 Author Report Posted May 2, 2011 Then u're really more interested in ATMOSPHERE rather than the core sport. Not enough to stop PyongChang Annecy 2018, this is not more atmosphere than core sport, this is the combination of both. And I think Annecy provides the best for both. At the heart of the mountains for a real winter atmosphere. Venues at the heart of the city and mountain villages fo a real festive atmosphere. Magnificent landscapes for a magical atmosphere! world cup venues for Biathlon, nordic skiing, alpine skiing, bobsleigh, luge and skeleton. I think this is a real "core sport". Chamonix-Mt-Blanc as the second hub. 1st winter games (1924), 2 alpine world championships. I think this is a real "core sport". Freestyle skiing and Snowboard just above Annecy. I think this is a real "core sport". All that in a 33 km radius circle.

Where's France? 4th in dancing 7th, 8th in the men... not so bad Baron, please, do not start again with PC in Annecy topics...or it will degenerate again If you want the ranking for winter sports, it is clearly: 1 Germany 2 France 3 South Corea (far behind)

Korea doesn't exist... But in Fact France have had a great winter in lot of winter sport, lot of world champions (In Freestyle, Short track, Biathlon, Alpin ski...) And if you look the history of artistic skating we have lot of medals more than korea... But isn't the subject, I wouldn't speak about Korea or PC, I don't understand why you think when I tell "Atmosphere" you think automatically it's against PC ? But to comeback with Annecy, don't worry, each venues have a great atmosphere with lot of fan and also the core sport Each venue is one the world reference! La Clusaz organize each year Cross country ski world cup Le Grand Bornand organize Biathlon world cup Chamonix Organize each year Alpin ski world cup And each year France organize, Freestyle world cup stop (And Xgames the world reference) Bordercross world cup stop.... France is one the country whom organize the most of competition each winter with Germany and USA...
Pure facts Posted May 2, 2011 Report Posted May 2, 2011 Why don't you guys just use the ignore function for Baron? It's not like you are going to miss anything... He is just enjoying p*ssing you off, whilst he has no real interest in sports or the Olympics for that matter...
baron-pierreIV Posted May 2, 2011 Report Posted May 2, 2011 4th in dancing 7th, 8th in the men... not so bad NOPE. 4th,5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, etc. DON'T count. Only Top 3. Tulsa, don't be silly. The WOGs are NOT only about Alpine & Nordic events. Those are just HALF of the sports. The ICE events are EQUALLY IMPORTANT, if NOT more so becaues MORE people watch the Figures Skating and Hockey than any OTHER sports in the WOGs. Forget it if you think the mountain settings are GOING to carry the day for Annency.

But in Fact France have had a great winter in lot of winter sport, lot of world champions (In Freestyle, Short track, Biathlon, Alpin ski...) Well, that may be true in the longer term, but if you look at the more recent winter games, Korea has finished above France on the past two occasions: 2006: South Korea 6 Gold, 11 medals total. France 3 Gold, 9 medals total 2010: South Korea 6 Gold, 14 medals total; France 2 Gold, 11 medals total

But in fact if you look since de begining or each year in world championship or world cup France is before Korea.... Korea is strong only in 2 sports and I think this supremacy will change in the next year...

Korea is strong only in 2 sports and I think this supremacy will change in the next year... Tulsa, u don't get it,do you?? The OVERALL record doesn't matter that much. Korea's recent successes are enough. That says that Korea has arrived whereas France is an old-time power who's faded and has already hosted 3x. WHy SHOULD it get ANOTHER round?

Annecy 2018 slogan is : Snow Ice and You!
neige Posted May 3, 2011 Author Report Posted May 3, 2011 France is an old-time power who's faded Nice! Good reference to Pierre de Coubertin's spirit
baron-pierreIV Posted May 3, 2011 Report Posted May 3, 2011 Nice! Good reference to Pierre de Coubertin's spirit What has that got to do with it? THe Annency bid is REALLY the weakest of the 3--not because it's the ugliest or technically the weakest...but because geopolitically, it is the LEAST ATTRACTIVE. We're trying to be honest with you guys...but you're like ostriches, burying your heads in the sand. Well, that's your prob then.
Westfale Posted May 3, 2011 Report Posted May 3, 2011 Why are you comparing Annecy with PC? It is Munich versus PC! Nothing more and nothing less. Munich is Europes only chance to host the Winter Games in 2018. The lack of support by the French IOC members to their bid is obviously. You dont have this in the two others bids. Bach for instance was not much involved in the Leipzig bid. Probably because he knew Leipzig had no chance. It is the same with French this time. As a German I have the impression that the French placed this bid because they dont want Germany to host the Games. I am still hoping for a withdrawl. BTW the most successful nation at the Winter Games out of this three is Germany by a distant. Second at the Olympics, first at the Paralympics medal table in Vancouver. But I know the world does not feel comfortable when we list our adventages.
FYI Posted May 3, 2011 Report Posted May 3, 2011 While I concur with 99.9% of the people on these boards (other than the 2 Annecy buffoons) over Annecy's dismal chances, I will say however, it would be an utter mistake for the Annecy bid to withdraw in this overwhelmingly late stage in the Game. After 2 years of time, effort, money & mental fatigue going into it, why should they withdraw now with only 2 months to go 'til the end. That would be totally foolish on their part, & I actually would lose some respect with the French if they did that. However measly their chances are, it's still a chance nonetheless. And why not still take it after going through all the immense trouble of an Olympic bid campaign.

Annecy is in the heart of mountains and Chamonix is the Alps reference. France don't have something against Munich or Germany, Annecy want to bid since 1998 and normaly they should bid in 2014 before Munich.... Annecy is a mountains city, with an authentic winter atmosphere and 2 poles with Ice and Ski venues in each pole... Every spectators could see Ice and Ski event in Annecy and in Chamonix (Chamonix Alpin ski to Hockey less than 5 min) (Annecy Freestyle ski to Speed skating less than 15 min) Moreover Annecy bid is similar to Lillehammer bid while Munic is similar to Vancouver or Turin. Germany shouldn't think Annecy can't win, we have say the same thing with London in 2012... remember. Annecy can win because we offer something very exceptional.
