Time to raise the volume

Talking about endorsements, we had to call an ambulance to my place of work the other day for a member of the public and I noticed the ambulance had stickers all over it 'THE NHS SURPORTS THE BID'

Now why this is good to know I did wander where the funds were coming from for the publicity, after all we keep hearing how the NHS is strapped for cash.

I also wandered about their motives; I mean are they so strapped for work that they need the Olympics so that they can treat all those exhausted athletes to help keep them gainfully employed?  :laughlong:  :laughlong:

LONDON'S FLYING PETITION!!

The Prime Minister Tony Blair today took take time out from his election campaign when he became the first person to sign a British Airways Boeing 747 in support of London’s bid to host the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

During the next 10 weeks, the British Airways jumbo will be transformed into a flying petition, collecting the signatures of celebrities, passengers and airline staff who proudly “Back the Bid”.

The airline, a premier partner of the London 2012 bid, hopes to collect more than 100,000 signatures as part of its ‘sign the plane’ initiative.  These signatures will be placed on the aircraft that carries the bid team to Singapore for the crucial decision vote on July 6 by the International Olympic Committee.

The Prime Minister was joined at Heathrow Airport today by London 2012 chairman Sebastian Coe and double Olympic gold medallist, James Cracknell.

Martin Broughton, British Airways’ Chairman said:

“We are honoured to have the Prime Minister’s support as we kick off our ‘sign the plane’ initiative.  As a premier partner, we are proud to give our support to the London 2012 team in its bid to bring the Olympic and Paralympic Games to London.”

Prime Minister Tony Blair said:

“I am delighted to put the first signature on the British Airways 747.  This is a fantastic opportunity for the British public to get behind the London 2012 Olympic bid.

“Bringing the games to the UK would benefit the whole country enhancing the lives of millions and bringing thousands of visitors to the capital from around the world.

Sebastian Coe, London 2012 Chairman added:

“We are extremely excited about the British Airways ‘sign the plane’ initiative which provides the public with a unique way of registering their support.  Everyone can make a difference by signing up to our campaign.

“Today marks 70 days to go to the crucial vote on 6th July.  As we count down to the final decision in July it is important that everyone in Britain can show their support for what would be a once in a lifetime opportunity to bring the Games here in 2012.”

More than two million people have now registered as supporters of London's 2012 Olympic bid.

When organisers launched the scheme in December, they hoped one million people would sign up by July but the target has been reached three months early.

Among those registered are Nelson Mandela, Sven-Goran Eriksson, David Beckham and rock star Sir Mick Jagger.

Supporters register via the internet, by text, by telephone or in person at promotional events.

"This is a fantastic milestone to reach," said London 2012 Chairman Sebastian Coe. "It demonstrates the high level of support for our campaign and that it is growing all the time."

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) will meet in Singapore in July to decide which city should host the 2012 Games.

Public support will be one of the criteria used by the IOC when making its decision.

If we need to raise the volume, maybe we can propose a third competition as well as the Olympics and Paralympics.  Maybe this idea from 1968 could be an option?

The Year of the Sex Olympics (1968)

For Theatre 625, BBC, tx. 29/7/1968

105 minutes, colour (only black & white version survives)

Cast: Leonard Rossiter (Co-ordinator Ugo Priest), Suzanne Neve (Deanie Webb), Tony Vogel (Nat Mender), Brian Cox (Laser Opie), Vickery Turner (Misch), George Murcell (Grels)

In a future Britain, the appetites and passions of the masses are controlled by television, with a constant stream of pornography regulating sexual desire. When audiences show signs of boredom, the 'high drive' broadcasters must find new methods to engage them.......
