Olympian2004 Posted March 17, 2011 Report Posted March 17, 2011 I can't see her arriving in a carriage or limo - this ain't the commonwealths - she will walk into the royal box - like the Spanish royal family did in Barcelona 1992? Well, the governor-general of Canada (and thus the representative of the Queen) arrived in a carriage at the Calgary 1988 opening ceremony (see starting at 3:35): Nothing non-Olympic, if you ask me. But a classy thing, actually.
Rob2012 Posted March 19, 2011 Author Report Posted March 19, 2011 I'm told these strips are just a few uncoloured trial pieces, so don't get too excited because as far as I know we don't yet have confirmation of the wrap returning. But, nonetheless some photos of the stadium from oobrein on flickr give an idea of the wrap...
Kenadian Posted March 20, 2011 Report Posted March 20, 2011 Indeed gates can be covered by moveable seating. Many stadiums do that. In fact, BC Place in Vancouver has a whole segment of seating that can be removed. I don't see how London will need that many gates used at once. It uses up a lot of lucrative seat space, too. I'm just guessing the gates were built for multiple purposes both during the Games and after. Who knows how the Queen will arrive? Maybe she'll pop in by hot air balloon. LOL! Back in Montreal, she just walked into the Royal Box a la Juan Carlos and Sofia in Barcelona. In fact, I only recall Atlanta and Athens doing anything more than that for the arrival of the Head of State. Salt Lake, too, I guess. Those strips are rather exciting! I hope they do finally go with the wrap. They could so many creative things with it.
Rob2012 Posted March 21, 2011 Author Report Posted March 21, 2011 Field being laid: http://www.london2012.com/webcams/olympic-stadium-camera-2.php
baron-pierreIV Posted March 21, 2011 Report Posted March 21, 2011 Who knows how the Queen will arrive? She'll arrive in a divan carried by 2,012 studly Nubian slaves...all zionist of course!!
baron-pierreIV Posted March 21, 2011 Report Posted March 21, 2011 Field being laid: By whom? Where? Seriously, one thing I noticed though in lieu of a BIG entrance hole* in the ground as in Beijing & Athens, this stadium has SIX entrances to the pitch. That looks like the most ever in recent SOGs. So maybe that'll make for more fluid entrances & exits of cast and props, etc. * There goes the BIG GIANT-balloon-stud-doing-it-to-Mother-Earth stunt number!!
baron-pierreIV Posted March 21, 2011 Report Posted March 21, 2011 This is HOW H.M. E2 should enter Olympic Stadium...like another Elizabeth before her. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jw9VjbgFI0g That, BTW, is supposedly the most expensive wink in history!!

Awesome ...although they have to be careful not to drop HRM from that throne . That would be a worse glitch than Vancouver cauldron. ...Actuallyyyy...i was thinking the Queen entrance will probably be similar like the CWG protocol. I can picture her entering on a black limo (with the Duke of Edinburgh) while an arranged version of some patriotic UK song like ''Rule Britannia'' plays in the background. Of course, she should be acompannied with the Buckingham Guard

Of course, she should be acompannied with the Buckingham Guard i hope not - too corny - she will have had her diamond jubilee by that point - so i see her (hopefully) entering a la Juan Carlos and Sohphia in Barcelona. the games aren't about the Queen and she ought not take centre stage (IMO). This is HOW H.M. baron-pierreIV Posted March 23, 2011 Report Posted March 23, 2011 Just heard that Dame ET passed away this morning. I am so glad I posted that /\/\/\. My tribute to her!! I had such a crush on her when I was in high school...because that is when they were filming CLEOPATRA and it was my big escapist fare. BTW, in that Entrance clip, they deleted the other erotic dance of gals with like a snake running around their bodies. In some of the trailers, one can catch a glimpse of that sequence...but somehow it turns out the "snake costumes" turned out to be blue. Maybe that's why they cut it out...so to speak. Adieu, Liz. Your beauty comes along but once in a hundred years!!

Jeason Posted March 30, 2011 Report Posted March 30, 2011 Its a wonderful stadium. I think groundsmen did hard work to prepare it .I would like to ask about how many people can sit in that stadium .
Mr Tickle Posted March 30, 2011 Report Posted March 30, 2011 I love that internal shot with the sun shining on the rainbow coloured perspex, it really gives what is quite a plain space an exciting feel.
Lee Posted March 30, 2011 Report Posted March 30, 2011 Have to say that I am in absolute awe at the recent pics of the Olympic stadium in the sunshine. I was always a supporter of the logo and the mascots but secretly was disappointed that we didn't have a real showpiece stadium to show off to the world to go with our fantastic Olympic Park. Over the last 6 months I have become increasingly excited by just how much I am loving the simplicity of the stadium. I have to say that the recent pics with the turf down just made me beam with pride. I now actually prefer it over the Birds Nest. I cannot wait for the track to go down, please let it be blue. Its a wonderful stadium. I think groundsmen did hard work to prepare it .I would like to ask about how many people can sit in that stadium . 80,000 capacity
Lee Posted March 30, 2011 Report Posted March 30, 2011 Im voting for Orange : ) I think you will get your wish.
Soaring Posted March 30, 2011 Report Posted March 30, 2011 Man, it looks great. When will the first test competition be in the stadium?
The Tower Bridge Fox Posted March 30, 2011 Report Posted March 30, 2011 Its incredible how similar it looks to the computer visuals Almost indistinguishable. I’m also amazed we’ve laid the grass already.
adrianme17 Posted March 30, 2011 Report Posted March 30, 2011 I think you will get your wish. A report in the London Evening Standard said that the track is going to be blue!?
