Ceremonies on UTube, Pt 2

Recommended Posts

I liked this vid with the tv director of the 1986 Commonwealth Opening ceremony in Edinburgh. He gets very frustrated and does not like Prince Phillip lol

That's so funny /\/\. Was there in Edinburgh a few months before that. It was still cold.

I guess it wasn't rehearsed well which is why the cues weren't happening on time. Am surprised Morris didn't get a heart attack or something. That stadium is so weird -- it's all jagged; like some ramshackle piece of sh*t.

Yeah, most of the stands were temporary. Same thing happened in Victoria at the 1994 CWG on which the stadium looked really weird.

Venezuela - Brazil is about to begin! Good luck Venezuela!

...shame on the organizers. They didn't played the anthems because of technical problems.

A couple of rare jewels from the 1989 SEA Games closing ceremony in Kuala Lumpur. Featuring the former singer Sudirman (who was known as the Michael Jackson of Malaysia)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O_oYgWv6py4

(note: there are more videos of the 1989 SEAG on the user account but i cant put them because of GB restrictions)

By the way, it seems this year SEA Games (in Palembang, Indonesia) are going to repeat the water stage kind of ceremony like Guangzhou and Singapore. I wonder how they'll do it.

Dunno if i posted this before, a video from the 1997 Winter Universiade which was held in Muju, South Korea.

Note: For those who don't know Muju was always rivalized with PC to become the Korea national bid for the WOG.

Here's a cut number from the Salt Lake 2002 Closing, i.e., cut from NBC's telecast for the U.S.A. It's the local doo-wap group from Utah called Eclipse.

They also appeared in the Opening. They were the male sextet singing in the campfire Pioneers section.

Back to the Los Angeles 1984 OC, when that time it seemed that city was the center of the world. The arrival of the Olympic flag carried by Billy Mills, Bill Thorpe (Jim's grandson), Bruce Jenner, Wyomia Tyus, John Naber, Al Oerter (RIP), Mack Robinson, and Parry O'Brien. Escorted by Dr. Sammy Lee, Pat McCormick, and Richard Sandoval (representing the 1980 Moscow US Olympic team that didn't get to go) to the Olympic hymn. Starts out interestingly with Reagan's rearranging of the declaration of the Olympic Games open. At the time, Bill was basking from the strong family campaign to get his grandfather's gold medals returned and his Olympic records successfully restored the previous year.

Presentation of Pyeongchang (host of the 2013 Winter Special olympics) at Athens 2011 Closing Ceremony

PS: Pardon my ignorance but what's the name of the song they perform (I've heard it on numerous korean performances and it seems like some kind of second national anthem to them)

/\ Huh. Interesting, Ikarus.

Funny, Special Olympics does the handover Summer-2-Winter-2-Summer...unlike regular O's. But at least PC has now had some sort of "dress rehearsal" for the Big One in Sochi in 3 years' time.

Guys, i've found a very rare jewel in Vimeo. A 9 minute long video from the opening ceremony of the 1990 Commonwealth Games in Auckland, NZ. :)

It mostly features the water segment (which would be done on a similar fashion at Barcelona '92) I wish the user could have uploaded the complete ceremonies...aw well :c

Also, check this out: http://www.nzonscreen.com/title/games-74-1974 . Is the complete official film of the 1974 Games in Christchurch (including the opening ceremonies)

/\ Thanks for those rare treats, Jose.

WHERE do you find them?

I usually get on video.google.com to search since it gives more results than Youtube. Thats how i found it.

Btw, I always wanted to see the 1994 CWG ceremonies but sadly there's nothing on the net.I hope someone decides to post something

I've found a rather better quality video of the 2002 World Cup opening ceremony (the ceremony is in YT but in an awful quality compared to the one i've uploaded).

I'll be uploading the remaining parts in my account so stay tunned

The song's title is "Arirang". I believe it was also played when North and South Korea marched into Stadium Australia together at the 2000 opening ceremony.

China does it again with an spectacular show to open the 2011 Universiade (aka World Student Games) in Shenzhen, which happened early today. Part 1 of many which the user is still uploading on HD. Enjoy!

This countdown is far better than the Guangzhou 2010 one and on pair with Beijing 2008 one IMO.

Note: They decided not to use fireworks in the ceremony because they wanted "green games" or something (also they didn't used pop stars or famous actors, and featured student performers instead

Thanks, Jose. But...but...they're NOT grand enough!! I mean they're bringing the scale lower. These should be 100% more lavish than Beijing, Jinan and Guangzhou!!

Well, we're talking about the Student Games, I don't think they need to be more massive than the Olympics or the Asiad. And even so they're kinda massive itself, compared to the far more cheap ceremony Beograde had a couple of years ago.

Lightining of the Universiade cauldron

Notice the spiral-like road which was built outside the stadia (and was also used as the via of entrance for the athletes for what i saw on other vids, kinda reminds me of Atlanta and Melbourne CWG somehow.

You're right Shenzen raised the bar compared to Belgrade.

Haven't seen much Universiade ceremonies (i'm kinda interested on watching the Sheffiled '91 and Fukuoka '95 ones) but this was the most spectacular one I remember (Bangkok '07 was very cheap as well).

Btw...like i said before, they decided not to use fireworks for ecologic reasons. Wasn't London thinking about doing the same as well?
