Ikarus360
There. Also glad to know the user attended my request (I was the one who asked him to upload that part XD)
baron-pierreIV
/\/\ Thanks, Yoshi & Ik. How did you find that?? But somehow I thought (from what I saw) that they completed Sadako's 1,000 paper cranes and then sent them aloft to the sky -- and not the boring just-handing-them out as souvenirs to the crowd. And that Kenny G, what a waste of time and space. Like, who needs him? Sorry for the rant. Thanks again. Sir Rols
Yoshi, you add the [ youtube ] ____paste the URL address here___ [ / youtube] bookend codes before and after. No spaces inside the brackets and NO need to BOLD them; I just did that so you could see it. I didn't know that one. I just do [ media]web address[ /media] (and as baron said, without the spaces in the square brackets).
baron-pierreIV
Almaty-Astana 2011 Asiad Winter Games opening ceremony. Haven't watched it yet -- but it's supposed to be spectacular. Am starting to watch this now..but I am getting a headache. The resolution on this video is soooo low-tech and primitive that the colors are all awash. Opens with an Hourglass. Uhmmm...Klepsydra, Athens 2004. The female announcer spouting in English is as bad as the one used in Torino. OVERLY enthusiastic and irritating. It's really hard to watch. Palette86
I didn't know that this video has been uploaded by Ikarus 361...I think he's Ikarus360 here in GB or is it simply coincidence? The video is 1992 Barcelona's opening ceremony.I've discussed the another aspect about this before and I'm not going to talk about it again. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TCKYiBL3fPM I'm really happy that I could watch the very moment on TV.I do remember I watched the scene before I went to school. And thanks Ikarus.
yoshi
Ok, here's a better Astana 2011 vid: YES! It embedded! Thanks Baron BTW, there's loads of other stuff on that channel (The vid I put up is part 1 of 14) & there's some backstage stuff from Kazan on there, & who knows what else. Just seeing a bit of the start of Astana, looks similar to Kazan with the parade before the countdown. Do you know if this company are involved in Sochi Baron? baron-pierreIV
. Do you know if this company are involved in Sochi Baron? Just saw your ?? there. No; I don't think so. Igor Krutoy oversaw the Astana and Kazan shows. A TV producer, Konstantin Ernst, is in charge of Sochi and the silent western partner is Scott Givens and his Five Currents Company. yoshi
Oh right, thought that very intricate, heavy style would've been just what Sochi was after. Excuse me for being a dork, but what's Scott Givens done before?
baron-pierreIV
what's Scott Givens done before? His most visible portfolio was he was Overall Creative Director of Salt Lake 2002 - everything creative - design, look, the Ceremonies, etc.. He then formed his own firm afterwards: last few projects - Rio 2007; Guadalajara 2011, London 2012. http://fivecurrents.com/ (He also produced the Summertime segment in Atlanta 1996 -- as s subcontractor.) Olympian2004
And speaking of Beijing 2008: Here's a video of the rehearsal of the famous drummer sequence. If you ask me it's even more impressive than the actual performance on opening night, because they use a traditional kind of drums there with a stronger sound and you can see even better what an immense precision that sequence consisted in:
baron-pierreIV
Good find, Fab. What would we have done without those brain-washed PRC troops?? This is an early rehearsal tape...when I think they were still trying to perfect the routine (much smaller crew). . Also, as this was at one of the off-site rehearsal venues, these were merely practice drums as the final ones weren't ready yet; and they didn't want to have to drag all those souped-up laundry baskets all over the place (i.e., just kept them at Bird's Nest for the real thing). baron-pierreIV
The spectacular shows didn't really start until Moscow 1980 for the summer; and Sarajevo for the Winter. Before that, there was just a smattering of low-tech folk dances, even for Mexico, Munich, Montreal, Innsbruck and Lake Placid.
