hektor Posted February 7, 2011 Report Posted February 7, 2011 IOC inspection this week. They should be welcomed by French Premier Fillon, but there is still a rumor that the President might come and say hello. Opponents are tagging "NO JO" on whatever they can in Annecy, including the Annecy 2018 official merchandise shop, it is a little game they play with the organizers and the police. They defaced a freshly painted mural that had been inaugurated a few days ago. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/olympics/2011-02-07-756740381_x.htm http://www.ledauphine.com/haute-savoie/2011/02/06/les-anti-jo-taguent-a-tour-de-bras

Everybody is for Annecy in the city, 88% of the population are for the Wog
baron-pierreIV Posted February 7, 2011 Report Posted February 7, 2011 88% of the population are for the Wog Good luck sign for PyongChang!! "8" Lucky number for Asia!! Seoul 1988, Nagano 1998, Beijing 2008, PyongChang 2018!!
Tulsa Posted February 7, 2011 Report Posted February 7, 2011 PC where is impossible to have a good Biathlon championship or a where it's impossible to have Snowboard cross because Korea don't able to realize acceptable track... ? Hum seriously Korea doesn't match... Annecy have a best technical bid and a best place to host WoG. I think CIO doesn't choose PC to comeback in Asia, isn't the good choice, maybe in 2022 with China or Japan Bid

Olympian2004 Posted February 8, 2011 Report Posted February 8, 2011 What are you talking about? Since yesterday's great opening ceremony for the Alpine Skiing World Championships in Garmisch, I think that Annecy and Pyeongchang are out of the race anyway. (Hint for all who don't understand emoticons: I'm just kidding.)
hektor Posted February 8, 2011 Author Report Posted February 8, 2011 Well I created this thread to discuss the inspection visit, not for another "my bid is better than yours" boring discussion.
baron-pierreIV Posted February 8, 2011 Report Posted February 8, 2011 Well I created this thread to discuss the inspection visit, not for another "my bid is better than yours" boring discussion. Yeah, but they can always go anywhere...esepcially with Tulsa. It's so nice to play with him.
Westfale Posted February 8, 2011 Report Posted February 8, 2011 Well I created this thread to discuss the inspection visit, not for another "my bid is better than yours" boring discussion. And any news? Is Sarko there?
demetrius Posted February 8, 2011 Report Posted February 8, 2011 And any news? Is Sarko there? According to the French press, Nicolas Sarkozy is likely to encounter the members of the IOC on Thursday (not official yet). Today, François Fillon, the Prime Minister is expected in late afternoon accompanied by Chantal Jouanno, Minister of Sports for a press conference before a meeting with the IOC delegation. In the coming days, seven ministers are also expected to host the IOC Evaluation Commission: Chantal Jouanno (sports), Nathalie Kosciusko-Morizet (ecology), Frédéric Lefebvre (tourism), Christine Lagarde (economy), François Baroin (budget), Brice Hortefeux (security) and Nora Berra (Secretary of State for Health).
hektor Posted February 8, 2011 Author Report Posted February 8, 2011 The IOC delegation has 11 members. They are sleeping in Veyrier du Lac. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Veyrier-du-Lac They have already met with François Fillon, Chantal Jouanno - the Minister of Sport - Charles Beigbeder, president of the Bid Committee, Bernard Accoyer, president of the French National Assembly and mayor of Annecy-le-Vieux, and IOC members Jean-Claude Killy and Guy Drut. Tomorrow they go to La Plagne (bobsled)

Thank you. I dont know the plans of Munich or PC, but with so many ministers, it looks like a bit over the top to me.
baron-pierreIV Posted February 8, 2011 Report Posted February 8, 2011 Thank you. I dont know the plans of Munich or PC, but with so many ministers, it looks like a bit over the top to me. The crew of minsters will crowd around the IOC'ers so they can't see that it's the same old Alps.
demetrius Posted February 8, 2011 Report Posted February 8, 2011 That's a lot of people, it's true! I guess it can help to reassure the IOC regarding the credibility of the bid and show the total support of the French Authorities. And the political side will be counterbalanced by the strong mobilization of the athletes (Pernilla Wiberg, Jean Pierre Vidal...)
hektor Posted February 9, 2011 Author Report Posted February 9, 2011 http://www.rmc.fr/editorial/147293/fillon-jacquet-et-les-six-coreens/ Tomorrow they are in La Clusaz (Nordic skiing). I like the contrast between the colored parkas of the evaluation commission and the dark suits of the bid committee.
demetrius Posted February 9, 2011 Report Posted February 9, 2011 The work of the IOC Evaluation Commission began at 8:30 this morning in les Pensières (Fondation Mérieux conference center) in Veyrier-le-Lac on the shores of Lake Annecy. Program agenda: No "trip" today for the Evaluation Commission but six themes will be discussed: Legacy and Communication, Concept, Accommodation, Sports and Venues, Transport, Environment and Meteorology Jean-Claude Killy (IOC member) and Frédéric Lefebvre (Secretary of State for Tourism) participate in the meetings. Meanwhile, a majority of journalists took the road to La Plagne, to visit and test the bobsled track, legacy of the 1992 Games. ledauphine.com
hektor Posted February 9, 2011 Author Report Posted February 9, 2011 The leading French newspaper Le Monde is "welcoming" the evaluation commission by devoting one full page to the opponents from the CAO (Comité Anti Olympique). It appears that the invaded the Annecy city hall on February 3, stealing all the Olympic flags and destroying one video projector. The CAO guys interviewed by Le Monde were the typical French leftist/altermondialist middle-class types (civil servant, professor of philosophy, bio-farmer, musician and composer, etc).
demetrius Posted February 9, 2011 Report Posted February 9, 2011 What the press is going to live today in La Plagne
Tulsa Posted February 10, 2011 Report Posted February 10, 2011 Some pictures, this morning CIO was in Annecy le Vieux to have a look on Artistic and Short Track place... I have heard the presentation. Next photo coming soon
demetrius Posted February 11, 2011 Report Posted February 11, 2011 Today: visit of the proposed venues in Chamonix-Mont Blanc cluster, lunch with Nicolas Sarkozy in Annecy and in the afternoon meetings in Veyrier-le-Lac (themes: finances, the marketing, the legal and political guarantees) Nicolas Sarkozy, this morning in La Clusaz (Nordic Ski venue)
demetrius Posted February 11, 2011 Report Posted February 11, 2011 A video from France Television unveiled during the visit of the IOC Evaluation Commission
hektor Posted February 11, 2011 Author Report Posted February 11, 2011 The French prez with the evaluation commission.
memorabilia Posted February 13, 2011 Report Posted February 13, 2011 From the IOC press conference : " We are impressed of the good understanding of the need for the preparation of the Games " " People understood what they are talking about " G. Felli, IOC Games Director
Westfale Posted February 13, 2011 Report Posted February 13, 2011 I think it was an advantage for Annecy being the first city to be visited.
