London Bridge to host House of Switzerland during 2012 Olympics

The House of Switzerland is one of the few national guest centres at the Olympic Games open to the public and is intended for a wide local and international audience.

The House of Switzerland is the official Swiss guest house at the Olympic Games, a meeting place for the Swiss Olympic Team as well as decision-makers from the fields of sports, business and politics. It is also the location for the TV studio of the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation.

The Swiss Embassy has announced that Glaziers Hall, The Mug House pub and Southwark Cathedral's Millennium Courtyard and Refectory will make up the 'House of Switzerland' in Summer 2012.

An outdoor area will be used for cultural events, performances and medal ceremonies for Swiss athletes.

"We are delighted to be in partnership with our neighbours and with the people of Switzerland during the 2012 Olympics," says Canon Andrew Nunn, acting Dean of Southwark.

"This will be an exciting time for all the people of London and we look forward to welcoming people of all nations to the cathedral in the spirit of the Olympic movement.

"We hope that our international and domestic visitors will feel that they can use Southwark Cathedral as a special place of prayer and peace during these important events and throughout the year."

Southwark Cathedral is hosting a flower festival from 23 to 27 August 2012. The Festival of Flowers is being organised by Leprosy Mission with the theme of Transformation.

Later this month the London Welsh Male Voice Choir will give a concert at the cathedral to mark World Leprosy Day and raise awareness of Leprosy Mission's 2012 flower festival.
