Durban Sandshark
We got a couple of new bowl games starting this year. The New Era Pinstripe Bowl at New York's new Yankee Stadium makes it the first time since the discontinued Garden State Bowl (in East Rutherford, New Jersey) back in 1981 that a college football bowl game is played in the New York metro area and the first in New York proper since the old Gotham Bowl at the original Yankee Stadium. Dallas' legendary Cotton Bowl at State Fair Park gets a new bowl after the Cotton Bowl Classic moved to the luxurious Jerryworld in nearby Arlington with the TicketCity Bowl. One proposed bowl in Orlando, the Cure Bowl, intended to be sponsored by the Susan G. Komen Foundation, and planned to be played at the University of Central Florida's Bright House Networks Stadium was rejected by the NCAA. That was to pit the Conference USA and the Sun Belt Conference teams. Another, the Christmas Bowl in Los Angeles, was also not NCAA-certified. Due to the massive renovation project going on at TCU's Amon G. Carter Stadium, the Armed Forces Bowl will be played at SMU's Gerald J. Ford Stadium for this year and 2011. Matter of fact, almost all of the bowl games this year will appear only on ESPN as it also takes over the broadcasting of the Capital One Bowl and the Gator Bowl. Only the Hyundai Sun Bowl (CBS), the AT&T Cotton Bowl Classic (FOX), and the Outback Bowl (ABC) will appear on free-to-air networks. In loving memory of the International Bowl in Toronto (please come back...)
