Rob2012 Posted December 5, 2025 Report Posted December 5, 2025 (edited) I'm not sure how many are aware that today won't be Trump's first involvement in a football cup draw. From 1992... Getting a Saint and Greavsie mug at the end too! The whole thing is just too surreal now. Edited December 5, 2025 by Rob2012 Quote
Rob2012 Posted December 5, 2025 Report Posted December 5, 2025 (edited) And FIFA, that is how you do a cup draw. No nonsense. One bag, one person drawing the home teams and another drawing the away teams. Bosh. Done. Moving on. Edited December 5, 2025 by Rob2012 Quote
sebastien1214 Posted December 5, 2025 Report Posted December 5, 2025 The draw was rigged against France and I have evidence that more than justifies Infantino being indicted before the ICJ (for this and all his other misdeeds). Quote
baron-pierreIV Posted December 5, 2025 Report Posted December 5, 2025 No Group of Death?? Now which cities are they going to be assigned to? (Group J almost became the "A" group! 😉) Quote
Sir Rols Posted December 5, 2025 Report Posted December 5, 2025 Jeezus guys, you forgot the biggest, most impressive, BEST EVER news. Everyone says so. And NOBODY saw it coming. It’s just so HUGE. Take that woke Nobel committee! Trump awarded inaugural Fifa peace prize at World Cup draw in Washington Quote

Trump awarded inaugural Fifa peace prize at World Cup draw in Washington I purposely left my Liv Rm when that was happening -- but forgot to mute the TV, so i still heard some of the sickening B/S. I don't know how Infantino's family can live with him?? Thank God, it's an UGLY prize! I hope the Prime Minister of Spain rejects the next one in 2029!! BTW, can you imagine how even MORE complicated the 2030 draw will be with the 3 Opening Games in South America? And then another 3 opening Games in Iberia/Morocco. Also, nobody mentioned it -- but Iran and Haiti are two of the "****-hole" countries on Trump's visa-suspended list. So how are Trump and FIFA going to square away that problem?? Maybe better, if no Iranians or Haitians want to come to the US next summer!!! Edited December 5, 2025 by baron-pierreIV Quote

It has already been made clear by the Trump administration that fans from Iran and Haiti will not be given visas to attend games in the U.S. Even more concerning is Iran boycotted the draw because members of their delegation were denied visas after Trump previously promised visas for all teams and their delegations. And Trump's travel ban list is about to grow which is said to include Egypt, Algeria, and Senegal. I still do not discount the possibility that the orange man will outright ban the Iranian and or Haitian teams from competing. I would venture that FIFA is figuring out how to keep that from happening. Quote

I‘m sure there‘s more fake trophies lying around in the cellars of Zürich that could be dusted off and shipped to DC whenever needed to appease the orange wreck(ing ball). Quote
Durban Sandshark Posted December 8, 2025 Report Posted December 8, 2025 Reminds me of when the last time the World Cup was held in the USA with the 1994 final at Pasadena's famed Rose Bowl with champs Brazil and Italy--and even that of the 2014 final in Rio De Janeiro. It was right in the middle of our afternoon. Designed mostly to satisfy the European primetime TV hours, where the balance of power with soccer largely resides in, regarding money, business, influence, and institutional structure. Moreover, thought the opening Mexico-South Africa match at Mexico City's Azteca Stadium, a rematch of the 2010 opening match at Johannesburg's FNB Stadium, was going to be played during prime time here but will instead play at 1pm CT Mexico/USA/Canada. Ditto for Canada's opening match in Toronto will be in the afternoon but at 2pm CT. At least the USA-Paraguay match in Inglewood will be on our primetime at 8pm CT, but the other co-hosts deserve their opening matches be on their primetimes. Pity for all the Scottish fans who will have to watch Scotland's World Cup return later at night: The Stadium Business: 2026 FIFA World Cup Final Kicks Off At 3PM USA/CANADA/MEXICO ET In New York/East Rutherford, NJ Quote

Everyone else will be scrambling to get five years of their social media assessed. Trump plan for World Cup tourists to reveal social media activity described as ‘chilling’ And then, if they pass that test, they‘ll have the pleasure of forking out tens of thousands of dollars to get tickets Fifa urged to halt World Cup ticket sales after ‘monumental betrayal’ of fans Quote
Sir Rols Posted December 11, 2025 Report Posted December 11, 2025 (edited) Meanwhile, who else is loving this ongoing saga? I mean, the layers of intrigue and hypocrisy embedded in it are confounding… Egypt and Iran ask Fifa to prevent LGBTQ+ Pride celebration at World Cup 2026 match LGBTQ+ events to go ahead at World Cup game despite Egypt and Iran objections First up, we have the precedent of Qatar 2022, when FIFA demanded that teams NOT wear rainbow armband or bracelets so as not to “offend the host’s culture and beliefs”. Now we have the teams demanding that locals NOT celebrate their own culture and beliefs. What will Gianni “I’m a gay woman refugee migrant worker with freckles” Infantino rule this time? Then, of course, there’s Trump. Who’s been itching for a trigger to send in the troops and strip games away from Seattle and reallocate them to a “safe” Red state. But… wouldn’t this put him on the side of a country he’s already bombed once this year and is already on his sh!t lust? Oh, what tangled webs we weave….. Edited December 11, 2025 by Sir Rols Quote
baron-pierreIV Posted December 12, 2025 Report Posted December 12, 2025 I just love this SH*T fest Infantino has orchestrated!! Can't wait to have 88 nations in it!! 🤪 Quote
baron-pierreIV Posted December 13, 2025 Report Posted December 13, 2025 Can fans burn down one World Cup venue in anger?? FInnish fans did!! Soccer stadium set ablaze by fans in devastating fire after relegation Quote
Rob2012 Posted December 13, 2025 Report Posted December 13, 2025 (edited) Wooden stands ☹️ It shouldn't be possible to burn a stadium down like that. Maybe they've done the club a favour doing it when nobody was inside. Couldn't not think of the Bradford fire when I read this. Edited December 13, 2025 by Rob2012 Quote
SportLightning Posted December 13, 2025 Report Posted December 13, 2025 My guess for the final 6 spots would be: Europe: Albania (Debut) Italy Kosovo (Debut) North Macedonia (Debut) And the final two spots: Jamaica Surniname (Debut) Quote
Ikarus360 Posted December 13, 2025 Report Posted December 13, 2025 Everything is pointing we're all going to unironically miss Qatar. And that says a lot. Unfortunately, removing Infantino won't change anything. He'll be replaced by someone as bad or worse. Say what you want of the IOC, but at least they do it with grace. Quote

The leeches attaching themselves to this world cup have made it pretty unedifying up to this point, but thousands of people haven't died building stadiums and infrastructure for it, nor - on a far less important note - has the whole football calendar been overturned to accommodate it. 1 Quote
StefanMUC Posted December 13, 2025 Report Posted December 13, 2025 Qatar also never wanted to collect five years of social media, excessive work info and your DNA if you had plans to travel there though. https://bsky.app/profile/anneapplebaum.bsky.social/post/3m7s3fo2xw22c Good luck to anyone still wanting to go from abroad. Rob2012 Posted December 13, 2025 Report Posted December 13, 2025 The world cup isn't far off, will that likely be in place by then? I'd be more concerned about the Olympics. Quote

Rob2012 Posted January 11 Report Posted January 11 oh, here's fun. The two users who have been posting anti-immigrant, anti-trans, pro-Trump stuff the LA28 and '26 World Cup threads on skyscrapercity are both now saying the threads should be apolitical because someone has suggested the current situation there isn't great for hosting these events. Really sums up the state of that forum these days. Quote
