rio2016man Posted July 16, 2024 Report Posted July 16, 2024 FIFA needs to step in and increase security/safety before a disaster happens Quote
baron-pierreIV Posted July 22, 2024 Report Posted July 22, 2024 Wouldn't it be great for the 2026 FIFA Men's World Cup to be opened by TWO FEMALE PRESIDENTS -- of Mexico and the USA?? Presidents Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo and Kamala Harris doing the opening honors for 2026-- another HISTORIC FIRST!! Quote
Roger87 Posted July 24, 2024 Report Posted July 24, 2024 Technically Dilma Rousseff was the first one, although she was absent in the opening and in the final we couldn't have Cristina Kirchner for familiar reasons for the photo with Rousseff and Merkel in the final. Quote

True. But if Kamala and Claudia are around to preside over the Opening Games in both countries -- then it would be a historic first for TWO WOMEN leaders of co-host countries vs. the women you named for 2014 but didn't show up. 1 Quote
baron-pierreIV Posted September 6, 2024 Report Posted September 6, 2024 Aside from July 4, 2026 being the 250th anniversary of the USA, apparently 2026 will also be the 400th anniversary of Broadway as NYC's main thoroughfare (although, of course, the Finals will be in the Meadowlands in New Jersey. brasilolimpico Posted September 15, 2024 Report Posted September 15, 2024 In 2014, then president Dilma Rousseff was present at the Opening of the 2014 FIFA World Cup. However, the president did not make an opening statement, after adapting the FIFA protocol, as the president had been harassed by the stadium when she opened the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup. Despite not having made the opening statement in 2014, this did not prevent the president from being harassed and booed in the stadium several times during the opening match and also in the final match (although in the final match, the FIFA organization realized that boos were beginning to appear at the moment the cup was handed over and the music in the stadium quickly increased). Fun fact: Brazilians have long been known for booing and antagonizing their presidents at sporting events. President Lula da Silva was booed at the opening of the 2007 Pan American Games and President Michael Temer was booed at the opening of the opening of olympics in 2016. Quote
Bear Posted September 29, 2024 Report Posted September 29, 2024 apparently the Final is getting their own super bowl half-time show, produced by Global Citizen: https://variety.com/2024/music/news/world-cup-final-halftime-show-global-citizen-produce-fifa-starting-2026-1236158976/ Quote

(if Americans only know how to swear by "Super Bowl" when it comes to putting on a show, that's pretty worrying for the LA ceremonies...) Quote
yoshi Posted September 29, 2024 Report Posted September 29, 2024 Literally the most predictable thing about this whole tournament...I wonder which Colombian will be the headliner (Just when you thought the Americans were starting to properly get football...) Quote

Are they going to bring out Shakira like they did for the previous 248 World Cups or are they going to innovate? Quote
Bear Posted September 30, 2024 Report Posted September 30, 2024 i like the idea i must admit, but like, there's already a closing ceremony. why do you need yet another show on top of that? especially one that takes place after the closing 😭 Quote
SportLightning Posted October 1, 2024 Report Posted October 1, 2024 For the halftime show, maybe Zara Larsson of Sweden could perform the Halftime show. Quote
baron-pierreIV Posted January 29 Report Posted January 29 (edited) And now plans from the wackamoo White House for July 2026-- the 250th anniversary of the USA!! Maybe he'll be distracted from the United 2026 competition? Maybe he will have suffered a stroke or heart attack by then?? 🤪 That would be the greatest gift for a 250th anniversary from the gods!! Wow, the pressure on the US MNT for 2026 will be TREMENDOUS from this idiotic White House! You can just imagine if they do not do well!! Trump makes plans to mark the nation's 250th anniversary celebration and recognize 'American heroes' Edited January 29 by baron-pierreIV Quote
Sir Rols Posted January 29 Report Posted January 29 Oh f*ck! I didn’t realise he was going to preside over the Sesquicentennial. This is gonna be cringe. 1 Quote

sebastien1214 Posted February 2 Report Posted February 2 So, the United States, Canada and Mexico getting into a trade war; it would be really funny and ironic if those three countries ended up working together for a major event next year. Quote

To be clear, Canada and Mexico are victims, not co-belligerents. None of this makes any sense, and I say that as a conservative who agrees with 90% of the stuff Adam Smith wrote. Only a nationalist could believe that increasing US inflation by 2% and Canadian inflation by 5% is somehow a win for the US "because the Canadians will be hurt worse than us." Quote

baron-pierreIV Posted February 2 Report Posted February 2 I just don't know what to say . . . (And I sort of had loose plans of visiting Mexico for the 1st time in September.) Quote
