i think we need a miracle if PyeongChang not get the games

it dosen´t mean i don´t want them to win

but the race for 2014 seems very boring for me

i don´t think salzburg is strong enough to trouble the SouthKorean Bid.

and the other bids are.......

PC has a strong bid, that's true, they are even the hot favourites for 2014, but wasnt Paris favourite for 2012? Who won the bid? London. So, nothing is impossible

The difference between London-Paris 2012 and PyongChang-whatever other city 2014 is that the eventual winner of 2012 was going to be from Europe.  2014 will have Asia (the Far East and the Almaty areas), and Europe.

Further, Paris was quickly eliminated in the 2004 race; PY came in a very strong 2nd against Vancouver in 2003.  And after giving 2012 to London, it would be very obvious if the IOC went 'Europe' again for 2014, especially from what I've heard that PY is technically the strongest bid of all.  Salzburg?  The local citizenry isn't behind it.  Sofia?  Bansko's toooooo far away from Sofia.  So PY may be the favorite but they have SOLID reasons to be the favorite, not sentimental ones.

Bansko isnt that far away:

1) there will be a separate Olympic village

2) withe the new highway that will open in two years the travel time will be 1:20 hours

So Bansko isnt problem for Sofia's bid

But the other that you say appears to be so

I also think PC to have very good reasons to be the favourite. Besides, I think that Asia will get the games (Nagano-SLC-Torino-Vcouver- ¡¡ASIA!!). As you say, PC has SOLID reasons to win the bid.

But I'd like the other cities to make a so interesting olympic race as we had in 2012. I hope Sofia and Salzburg to offer good bids, and I wish Almaty to give as some surprise. Anyway, of course, I'll be very very very happy if finally Jaca wins...

Pyeongchang has nothing sure, the reason?.they are frontrunner from 2010 but the IOC has never been so entusiastic about asian winter games, remeber Nagano, those games werent exactly the best winter games ever.

When you talk about winter games you know european countrys can develop the best ones.

Uhmm...then why did the Winter Games return to Japan for a second time in 1998?  Seoul put on a very well-organized Games.

When you talk about winter games you know european countrys can develop the best ones.

Uhmmm, Salt Lake 2002 is now considered the model of the BEST RUN and ORGANIZED Winter Games.  So your arguments are falacious, mex.

At least once again an Opening Ceremony in a real winter sport facility and not in a stadium which has nothing to do with Winter Sports...

By the way, I think the real argument for PyeongChang is economical. In Europe and America winter sports are more or less mature... but in Asia, it's a new frontier, a huge growth potential...

Imagine if all the emerging upper middle class of China and Korea and Thailand wants to ski...

Well, after being a PyeongChang naysayer, I'm a full supporter now _ for very selfish reasons. Now Ostersund is out of the race, I hope 2014 goes to Asia to clear any obstacles for Europe, and particularly Sweden, to have a great chance for 2018.

I think Sofia, more than Salzburg, is PC's biggest threat.

Here is Salzburg's 2010 Olympic Stadium, built on a temporary platform over a river. 40,000 capacity (25,000 temporary seats, 15,000 standing).

Nice stadium, but 15,000 standing?  And by the river?  How do you make people who will be paying something like anywhere from US$750-$1,500 a ticket, STAND for 2-1/2 hours on a Winter's night?

Not by the river, ON the river, the river is supposed to be underneath.

:oh:

I have this horrible vision of this huge arena collapsing into the river halfway through the opening ceremony.  :D

I'm with the Baron on this one. Standing room is pretty.. well, backward really. Hopefully Salzburg will try their hardest to put forward a better idea for 2014.  :)

And, yeah. An arena which actually serves more of a purpose as a winter sports facility might be nice, as well.
