Scotguy Posted March 7, 2014 Author Report Share Posted March 7, 2014 The uniforms that will be worn by Commonwealth Games volunteers are to be unveiled during a huge induction event at Glasgow's Emirates Arena. Up to 18,000 volunteers, who are known as Clydesiders, will attend orientation sessions on Friday and Saturday. They will be joined by Glasgow 2014 staff who will help them look after the spectators and athletes at the games. The finale of each event will be the unveiling of the various Clydesider uniforms during an on-stage catwalk. The 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow runs from 23 July to 3 August. I know that the Commonwealth Games look is normally not really trumpeted and kind of just appears, but surprised we haven't really seen much in branding yet. You wouldn't know anything was happening. No banners, nothing in George Square. There's nothing really to suggest Glasgow is hosting the Games. GCC will probably put banners up about a week before and leave them there till next year. Maybe he's being overly cynical but that's the situation at the moment apparently. The Games are due to begin in Glasgow on 23 July."Flying Scotsman" Obree, who became one of Scotland's few openly gay sports stars in 2011, attacked the "hypocrisy" of politicians who are not attending Sochi's Winter Paralympic Games in protest at President Putin's actions in Ukraine but who will be entertaining Ugandan officials in Glasgow in July. Obree has launched a campaign, No Hate At the Games, to have Uganda's politicians barred from hospitality events and other events around the Commonwealth Games."There is a rank hypocrisy in boycotting Games in another country but refusing to have the same moral values when it comes to Games in your own country because you are worried about the amount of money you have spent on them," said Obree."I think Ugandan athletes should come to Glasgow for the Games; it's nothing to do with the athletes and their sport. But moral values should matter, not just be ignored because we are hosting the event," he said. "There are millions and millions being spent on entertainment for visiting international politicians and dignitaries and I think members of the Ugandan government should be excluded from that. You do not want to be welcoming people who passed a law that effectively turns back the clock."Obree's petition, which by yesterday had some 3,000 signatories, is directed at the chairman of the Organising Committee of the Games, Lord (Robert) Smith, and urges that any Ugandan politicians who backed the anti-gay bill are not invited this summer. Glasgow 2014: Countdown clock gets days wrongCOMMONWEALTH Games organisers were left red-faced when they launched their official ‘countdown clock’ - showing the wrong number of days.The untimely error showed the July event in Glasgow starting in 128 days instead of the correct 135.The mistake was spotted after 20 minutes and the clock was quickly relaunched with the correct figure. http://www.scotsman.com/sport/glasgow-2014-countdown-clock-gets-days-wrong-1-3335110 Nevermind....take it as a good omen. At Delhi 2010, a red track was used, so I'm guessing a red track will be used at Glasgow 2014. The only major competition that uses a blue track is the IAAF World Athletics Championships. Fiji was banned from the association in 2009 after its government failed to meet a deadline to hold democratic elections. Commonwealth Games Federation president Tunku Imran says "I am delighted to welcome Fiji back into the Commonwealth Games family, and very pleased that they will be able to participate in Glasgow."
