No, the main problem wasn't Zaragosa. It's just the Salzburg, Sochi and PC have better layouts AND they have stronger winter sports teams than Spain. Besides, it's either time for a Russian or a Korean WOG, not another Spanish Olympics.

is true that Spain cannot have a WOG,but the mistake of the ceremonies was incredible and nobody of the bid explain nothing about it...

is time for PC 2014 and Madrid 2016

it may be time for PC 2014 but CERTAINLY NOT Madrid 2016....Madrid 2012, Jaca 2014, and Madrid 2016 will all sadly have the same fate in the end :(

One fly in Sochi's ointment that nobody has mentioned is that Russia cannot secure a Sochi Games from intervention of Chechyan extremists and their sympathizers. That is like a Summer Games in the arab lands. So, minus 30 points for the Sochi bid in that regard.

@baron-pierreIV

sochi located in kuban region. it's far away from on another side of mountain adn was never affected by islamic radicals that started genocide of non islamic radicals in 1991 and was eliminated from region in 2000. almost all islamic terrorists in chechnya are eliminated now. few just left. and they have nothing. no food, no money, no support from locals. they are not able to do anything outside of mountains in southern chechnya. the region is blocked.

He's NOT that stupid to mess up an int'l gathering. He didn't touch the 1988 Seoul Olympics nor the 2002 World Cup, did he? He could've but he DIDN'T. [Why don't we personally ask him? He posts in the Off-Topic session below?]

What I'm saying is, unless Russia puts a ring of steel around Sochi, because it is ALL part of the great Russian landmass, Chechyans or their sympathizers can easily sneak into or near the Olympic sites and cause havoc if they want to. With Russia now a democracy, there's very llittle to prevent would-be saboteurs from sneaking in. Did anybody forsee them taking over the movie theatre in Moscow, or the school in that village outside Chechyan borders? Alright then, it would be much easier to penetrate a Winter Olympic Games where 2/3rds of the events are held outdoors in the mountains, hills and valleys. How do you seal off all those venues?

In Ingushetia Shamil Basayev is destroyed

In Ingushetia on the night of Monday one of odious leaders of the Chechen insurgents Shamil Basayev is destroyed.

" Today at night in Ingushetia special action on which preparation I reported on you earlier as a result of which Shamil Basayev has been destroyed, and also a number of gangsters which carried out preparation and acts of terrorism in Ingushetia " has been lead, - director of FSB Nikolay Patrushev has reported on the president of the Russian Federation.

" This action became possible owing to that operative positions abroad have been created, first of all in those countries in which the weapon gathered and subsequently was delivered to Russia for fulfilment of acts of terrorism ", - the chapter of FSB has added.

I shall remind, what exactly Shamil Basayev was the organizer of explosions of houses in Moscow and Volgodonsk, capture of hostages at the Moscow theatre, capture of school in Beslan... As a matter of fact - Basayev was last of the strongest and significant Chechen terrorists, irreconcilable enemies of Russia...

Thus, all charges in " the Chechen threat " for Olympiad in Sochi which and before have not been proved absolutely not, now absolutely lose sense!

Shure, anybody can penetrate everywhere in mountains. But this threat is N4 in the list of sochi's problems:

1. no roads except federal highway (!!!)

2. poor infrastructure (!!)

3. seismological instability

4. extremists (?)

Imagine, there is no N4.

If we are lucky, there will be no N3.

May be N2 can be solved to some extent by drawing electric, hydgo and other facilities (in mountainous area), by sculping something that will look like buildings or houses and that will stay for some years(months? days?).

As to N1, there are pathways , that locals call "roads". The only real road is federal highway along the seaside(2+2 lines, sometimes 1+2 lines). And it is normal for such a mountainous and hilly area. But does it suit the olimpic place??

All the Sochi's inhabitants know, that local authorities play the game which is quite different from olimpic games. They just play for local real estate prices raising and initiated hysterical campaign around olympiade.
