Bulk of the TV broadcast will come from France 2 and France 3. The two other France Televisions channels, France 4 (the women)and France O^ (men's soccer), will handle the soccer. Standard Olympic broadcasting block will be 15 hours live from 9am-midnight France time. France Televisions will offer a 52-minute daily highlights and news show for each day. More hours surely will hit online through its website.

Westwood One Radio is no more since Vancouver as far as the Olympics are concerned--Dial Global fully absorbed it late last year. So now in conjunction with NBC, Dial Global Sports, which also deals with notably in sports the NFL, the NCAA, and The Masters, will pick up where Westwood One left off. This Dial Global Sports London link will grant a basic idea of what it has planned for London until an official announcement soon.

RTE Ireland was there for Katie Taylor, a boxing analyst for it in Beijing, qualifying for London in China.

This is what we'll expect from Argentina's TyC Sports for its fifth consecutive Olympic broadcast from London: 18 hours of live broadcast live from London (coverage goes from 4am ET Argentina time to 22:00 with the day's top action and covering from the Olympic Village to various locations and the daily performances of Argentina's Olympians) with the remaining six live from Buenos Aires (news, info, analysis, and highlights). Gonzalo Bonadelo heads it all as the lead anchor with a staff of 50 from TyC Sports with a good staff of analysts and mobile phones in various venues, interviews with athletes foriegn and Argentine, info on the Argentinian delegation to go along with all the pagentry, passion, emotion and competition. Well, turns out that Brazilians will get Olympic access on Terra, which was announced in Sao Paolo. The clue was of the use of Portuguese as one of the three languages from Terra when it made its Olympic announcement last week. Same structure as announced but with some Brazilian coverage sponsors (Bradesco, Sadia e Vivo, Alpargatas, and Centaur) and reporters (Joesph Montanaro, Milene Rodrigues, and Marcelo Tas for example) and Intel's to share "Alert Medal". So connected, it's even will appear along Sao Paolo's yellow Metro line and stations on its video screens.

Austria's ORF Sport+ aired part one of profiles of the Austrian Olympic Team called Red-White-Red Team: A Portrait (Das Rote-Weiss-Rote Team: Im Portrats) this past weekend. It stars Yvonne Schuring, Viktoria Schwarz, Andreas Votja, Fabian Leimlehner, Caroline Weber, and Barbara Gasser are all profiled. Plus some European Canoeing Championships, an important Olympic qualifier in the sport, in Augsburg, Germany.

RTM's TV1 and TV2 will have a combined 225.65 hours of its Olympic content under the Mission Gold 1 Malaysia campaign. Here's the skeletal Olympic TV schedule from the two channels. Much of the coverage will be in Malay. TV2 actually will deal with the Olympic action (starting with prelim Olympic women's soccer and both ceremonies live) and have English language reports during morning and primetime with six hours of coverage daily from late at night to the morning in Malaysia. Archery will be there. TV1, which starts things with the one-hour 100-day countdown on April 18, will reair both ceremonies and just deal with daily Olympic reports in morning highlights sessions from the previous day, afternoon, primetime, and late night reports each of them going no more than two hours a day (usually an hour).

Things in Sri Lanka just gets even more interesting and curiouser. Just yesterday, the Colombo High Commercial Court in the Sri Lankan capital issued an enjoining order to prevent Asia Pacific Broadcasting from giving the sole Olympic broadcasting rights to private broadcaster MTV and thus making it go through both MTV and SRLC, for now until May 31 in response to state-owned SRLC's filed case. Why not have it on both? The APC points out that several nations, not just in Asia, have Olympic TV rights shared on several stations and channels, not just both free-to-air and on cable/satelitte with the latter being more comprehensive. For this reason alone, I don't think this will not eventually be fought in court with time needed to assemble an Olympic crew and TV scheduling.

It's bad enough we get Huw Edwards, but what on earth is DJ Trevor Nelson doing as part of the commentary team. With three of them it'll be even more talked over than I fear. Hazel did a great job as the lead commentator in Vancouver and would much rather it was her for London, with somebody actually knowledgeable about the athletes participating coming in for the athletes parade.

As for the BBC coverage - I don't know if it's just me but the coverage still seems slightly less important than it did in the days it was branded Olympic Grandstand. Even though the main Saturday show is long gone it would be nice if they kept the brand for the Olympics.

Viasat teams up with NRK to bring forth 100 hours of 3D Olympic coverage from London on Viasat 3D, 8 hours daily and will produce a 4-hour daily summary of the day's events. Seems as though Norwegians are buying into the 3DTV craze in abundance as the report suggests, four years after NRK and Viasat offered HD coverage of the Olympics for the first time to Norwegians.

This is how France Televisions plans to deal with their share of the upcoming London coverage that was announced in Paris yesterday under its Francetvsport banner. We already know about the 300 hours that will be televisied among the four France TV channels--2, 3, 4, and O plus nine of its overseas channels. Didier Fraisse was announced as the Francetvsport Olympic director in London. It was also on that day France Television 3 will premiere the show France: London Objective. On the eve of the Opening Ceremony, Marie Drucker will host a program called The Beginning (yes, that's actually titled as such and is likely being the start of a lot of English used on France TV). Among the things featured will be a Usain Bolt documentary directed by Gael LeBlanc and produced by Elephant and Doc under the France The Fastest title.

Speaking of Francetvsport, its Olympic website is fully now up. With that, it was also announced officially French residents will get access to 12 live simultaneous Olympic streams and the simulcastings of the four France TV channels' coverage. Pluzz and Francetvsport will offer on-demand video of all events. All this will be made available on PCs, laptops, mobile phones, tablets, and internet-connected smart TVs. France Televisions will bring around 40 HD cameras, of which the images and signals will be relayed back to Paris and vice versa, to cover the 42 feeds from the OBSL with a team of 250 (up from 180 in Beijing). In Paris, technicians and directors there will cope with 80 images and signals flip-flopping from France 2 and France 3. Actually there will be two additional directors with Jean-Pierre Leroux (at Stage 2) and Christopher Boulain taking turns back in Paris

France Televisions also showed its London headquarters for the Olympics and what it will look like on a pontoon near Old Billingsgate with construction will come on July 15 with Guy Lelong's interior design, decor, and tech teams on July 20 culminating for rehearsals on July 23-24. Studio will be transparent that will have 7 remote cameras. Oh yes, France Telelvisions will have its own London double decker omnibus, but unlike the BandSports' edition, this will be more contemporary-looking with the upper part usually at the back installed in the front. It will be called Louise after Louise Ekland, an British TV host currently on French TV and may be on hand for this. The bus will be equipped with 4 cameras RF remote and machinery with radio-relayed live links on the moving bus. SIS Live will take care of that technological aspect. All that looks neat, doesn't it?

Had me wondering. Why is ZDF and Das Erste offering only six live webstreaming channels for the London Olympics when the likes of neighbors in France just announced at least 12 Olympic streams? Like I say, surely those two are capable of offering more coverage than six in this case. This is just one of the concerns the private German TV providers has over the two ublic broadcasters; it has criticzed this and perhaps could offer even more.

There will be a late night show though I can't really find who is doing it this time--Waldi or Harry. Likely CAF will make that clear here. WDR 2, SWR NDR Jump, NDR 2 and 3 will handle the radio coverage with some background focus on doping and sports policy with the live coverage at the daily early morning breakfast period, hopefully (for them) after a German wins a medal. Hosts and commentators there are Sabine Topperwien (WDR), Martina Knief (HR), Martin Roschitz (NDR) and Oliver Frick (BWR). Online is supposed to be cost-effective yet unprecedented diverse method of bringing more of the Olympics to watch that TV can't handle. Cable Show 2012: NBC To Offer Unprecedented 2012 Olympics Coverage

You ready for this one? We have our number. "NBC Sports will provide an unprecedented 5,535 hours of 2012 London Olympics coverage -- including live coverage of every event and every sport -- via its broadcast and cable linear channels, online and mobile , according to Gary Zenkel, president of NBC Olympics and executive vice president of Strategic partnerships for NBC Sports Group." Among some other notes from the article..

NBC will have 272 hours of coverage, up from 225 in Beijing. Don't know where the extra hours are coming from since we're now talking about 17 hours a day (unless maybe they're counting the Today Show as Olympic coverage).

It seems the MSNBC number has already been revised, they're now up to 178 (155 had been reported).

They also mention 770 hours from the basketball and soccer specialty channels, those are back from Beijing.

I don't know how they got to that number even with a lot of double-counting and perhaps adding in VOD content. But my goodness does NBC ever know how to raise the bar on themselves. That's more than 50% more than they offered from London. Who would have thought that's even possible!

Yeah, no, that's not TV2's webpage, but TV2 Sport. I can see why you would be confused (even many people in Denmark think that TV2 controls TV2 Sport), but TV2 Sport is a joint venture between TV2 and MTG/Viasat. The channel is its own entity, so rights are being bought by either TV2 or TV2 Sport (so TV2 can't put Olympics on TV2 Sport if they want to), and as far as I know, TV2 Sport has no rights to the upcoming Games. TV2 haven't launched their website yet, and probably won't for some time, seeing that they still don't have a site for Euro 2012, which starts in two weeks!

DR has just given a little bit of information about their summer plans, including the Olympics and other sports events. Apparently, they are one of only ten TV stations who will have a studio at the Olympic Village: http://tvnyt.com/artikel/default.asp?id=20436 This is the first time I can remember a Danish TV station having studio facilities in the host city (I think they might have had it in Atlanta, but I'm a bit too young to remember for sure ;-)) Normally, the studio coverage is being done from home, so this seems like a clear improvement of coverage. Thanks for that, Quaker and DamC for that big announcement. NBC does say that it will announce its lineup--not sure exactly what it means: the broadcasting schedule, the full amount of coverage, or the NBC Olympic sportscasting team--by the end of the month (and we're rapidly getting to that point). In a related story that is already mentioned on the press release, Telemundo is finally getting into the digital Olympic act as expected with exclusive footage not seen on Telemundo's TV version of the coverage that will total in 200 hours that will include the said coverage and mun2 helping out.

Nigeria is first among the non-South African, Sub-Saharan African London Olympic media rights sold and announced today wholly within its territory. The Nigerian Olympic Committee bought the Nigerian Olympic broadcasting rights in association with the Nigerian Television Authority, African Independent Television, and Radio Nigeria from Octagon South Africa. Octagon has plans to be at the IBC in London.

The verdict is in: "Days of Our Lives" will be preempted for the entire duration of the 2012 Summer Olympics. As NBC did in 2004, "Days" will be preempted for the 10 weekdays of the Summer Olympics: Monday July 30, Tuesday July 31, Wednesday August 1, Thursday August 2, Friday August 3, Monday August 6, Tuesday August 7, Wednesday August 8, Thursday August 9, and Friday August 10. "2012 Summer Olympics: Daytime" will be airing on all NBC affiliates from 10AM-5PM ET (9AM-4PM CT/MT/PT) each day.

I'm floored by this (in a good way, of course). We know that NBC wasn't coming through on the live streaming front from Beijing and Vancouver, but that looked to be fixed this time around. Now we're getting all this extra TV coverage, too? I figured this from the cable side of things because of NBC Sports Network, but I'm amazed they're doing this for the network. As NBC did in 2004, "Days" will be preempted for the 10 weekdays of the Summer Olympics: Monday July 30, Tuesday July 31, Wednesday August 1, Thursday August 2, Friday August 3, Monday August 6, Tuesday August 7, Wednesday August 8, Thursday August 9, and Friday August 10. "2012 Summer Olympics: Daytime" will be airing on all NBC affiliates from 10AM-5PM ET (9AM-4PM CT/MT/PT) each day.

Even better! I'll be thrilled if we actually get the coverage from 9am-4pm in the Central time zone and not delayed one hour as usual. It will be interesting to see what NBC decides to show during this long coverage window. I assume swimming and track prelims for sure, and probably a lot of beach volleyball matches.

CanadianSports just chimed in with his thoughts to go along with NBC's announcement with its massive London Olympic coverage plans, much of which is already being discussed here (and I'll inject mine soon). NBC's 272.5 hours for London is 10 hours less than what the CBC broadcasted in its final Olympic telecast in Beijing four years ago, adding that Canadian Olympic broadcasting is "four years ahead" of NBC's. Though the Canadian Olympic Broadcast Media Consortium headed by CTV has yet to officially confirm its broadcasting and Internet plans for London with its networks, it's almost confirmed that CTV will show upwards of 300 hours of it in its share like what it did with Vancouver. He only speaks about NBC proper and not the other networks involved since it's very likely those could get blacked out up there from the likes of Bell TV, Rogers Cable, and Shaw Cable--don't think NBC Sports Network is up there, let alone Telemundo since Canada already has TeleLatino. MSNBC and CNBC are both up there and, interestingly, I found out through Channel Canada's website their Olympic coverage from Vancouver wasn't blacked out on Rogers. Their Bravo is different than the US Bravo. I'm thinking sometime next week after Memorial Day we will get to see what the Canadians have in store for theirs, and we'll see what role, if at all, APTN will get in this.

ESPN Latin America just announced their plans for its London Olympic coverage for South America for both Portuguese and Spanish. The highlights:

-1700 hours of events and hundreds of additional hours of news, info, analysis from their studios

-cross-channel Olympic coverage in the six dedicated channels in each of the South American nations with at least three in each of them with a full-time HD channel, daily focus will deal with the athletes and the competition of interest in a particular nation and region

-daily highlights featured in a special Olympic edition of SportsCenter and a special devoted to the issues in the London Olympics

-for ESPN Brasil's fifth Summer Olympic foray, it will include reporters Marcelo Duarte, Andre Kfouri, Helvidius Mattos, Joao Palomino, Andre Plihal, and Jose Trajano.Special sportscasters to ESPN Brasil include Olympic medalists Wlamir Marques (basketball, bronze in Roma 1960 and bronze in Tokyo 1964) and Ana Moser (volleyball, bronze in Atlanta 1996).

-for the first time ESPN Latin America will conduct Spanish-language coverage to South Americans that will include reporters Paul Ferreira, Tito Puccetti, Michael Simon, John Yankilevich and Quique Wolff. The last one, a former international soccer star native of Argentina, will bear the Olympic torch on June 16 in Newcastle, England. Additional sportcasters and analysts from the Spanish realm will be named later, which surely include the famed Mexican journalist Jacobo Zabludovsky.

Back in Mexico, for those who would prefer more sports and less comedy in their Olympic viewing, TVC Deportes announced it will have three channels devoted the 2012 London Summer Olympics through TVC 1, TVC 2, TVC 3 all totalling 2000 hours together with 1224 of them live from London as the designated pay-TV Mexican broadcaster. Live coverage will come during the 2:30am-6pm block Mexico City time that will transmitted to 700 cable systems throughout Mexico. This time the focus will be on the athletes. Sportscasters include former Mexican athlete Cristina Millan (4th Olympics calling swimming, gymnastics, and track and field), Rafael Ocampo, and former Mexican swimmer Juan Manuel Rotter in his third Olympics as a commentator, who is hopefully even better now than in Beijing. There will also be a special and exclusive focus (naturally) devoted the 100-strong 2012 Mexican London Olympic team on TVC 1 with the other three to the other participants. More members of the TVC Deportes Olympics team will come aboard later to make up the 120-person professional crew.

Sporza, being 8 years old this year, is getting a new logo and look to coincide with the promotion of big sports events during the summer with the European Soccer Championships, the Tour de France, Wimbeldon, and of course the Summer Olympics. For the Olympics we got some new Olympic broadcast details, Sporza announced its first wave of sportscasters and will feature Stef Wijnants reporting from the London's Olympic swimming pool with Kris Meertens and Marc Willems covering track and field at the Olympic Stadium. Karl Vannieuwkerke and Lieven Van Gils will travel to London and possibly do the contests there too. Much of the Sporza's studio activities will take place back in Brussels with Sporza studio hosts Maarten Vangramberen, Catherine Van Eylen and Frank Raes coming in each part of the day at the new-look studios. In the leadup to the start of the Olympic Games, Frank Raes and Karl Vannieuwkerke are presenting four portraits of notable Belgian Olympians. The NBC coverage numbers are absolutely mind-blowing, I remember back in 1996 when the total coverage came to roughly 170 hours, all on the main network.

For all the hours on TV though, for me it is all about the streaming and being able to watch what I want when I want which, until four years ago, was something I never ever thought would be possible.

Give NBC credit.. they fell behind the curve in 2008 and 2010 with regard to online streaming, but clearly they're stepping it up this time around. There's going to be a big chunk in the middle of the day during the first week of the Olympics where you'll have NBC, NBCSN, MSNBC, Bravo, probably Telemundo, and both the basketball and soccer specialty channels up live. Pretty darn impressive. The key is the live streaming, I've been saying for 4 years that's what needed to change. That NBC has increased their hours and with NBCSN contributing a ton of coverage is icing on the cake. My DVRs are going to get quite a workout over this one!

Shinichi Taketa and Tomomi Hirose will be the hosts for NHK's coverage for the Japanese of the Opening Ceremony in London Olympic Stadium. Hirose will also anchor News Watch 9 from London during the period of the Olympics. For the Closing Ceremony, Hiroshi Takebayashi and Naoko Suzuki will cast that. Takebayashi will also be working as an announcer for the Japan Consortium (the group formed by NHK and the commercial stations to broadcast the London Olympics). Suzuki will also present the Ohayo Nippon (Good Morning, Japan) from London during the Olympics.

Did a little research on this Grupo Albavision. This is a media consortium that is based and founded in Guatemala City starting with Radio Sonora in 1956 and later with Canal 7 there in 1965. As far as the London Olympics are concerned, the coverage through Albavision's TV and radio stations will go across Bolivia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Paraguay, and Uruguay. When you visit Albavision's website, you can figure which TV channels will do that based on the info provided with a few exceptions. SNT Canal 9 in Paraguay is already mentioned here, so that's in. Just didn't know that it was a part of it--thought it was public-run. Repretel, which was involved in the 2010 World Cup coverage, will have its channels involved for the Olympics out of Costa Rica. RTS will cover them for Ecuador on TV. Bolivision will take care of them for Bolivia on free-to-air TV. Nicaragua will be represented on TV with the Olympics by Canal 10. Canal 3 is the station to go for the terrestrial Olympic coverage for Guatemala. VTV will do it for Honduras. Still trying to confirm with the Dominican Republic and Uruguay. Thinking Telecentero for the former. Radio will come later.
