its like Miss Universe. So many good looking girls in images, but put them on a stage and they do a Czech Republic or a Belgium as in Miss Universe.

Miss South Africa almost looked bored while on stage at Miss Universe.

Ireland was fun to watch. All that head and hair tossing makes one dizzy.

Who is this "Czarina" lady? Where is the "I have no regrets" Venus Raj "I love my family" ?

Mo: we don't hold it against Venus. we knew for a fact that the q&a is her weakness. Venus will now be embarking in a showbiz career here in the Philippines. Venus and Czarina were co-winners in the local pageant.

Nicole Flint will most likely make the cut in Miss World not sure about Belgium. Good thing France and Russia are sending their runners-ups who seems to be the complete package as oppose to the winners.

Some observations:

01) Miss World is based in Great Britain, and six British citizens have won Miss World (four from Great Britain itself, one from Bermuda, and one from Gibraltar), but while it used to be a revered British institution, it's now practically the black sheep of British popular culture. Prostitutes who sleep with government officials seem to be treated a lot better. I may be wrong, but Great Britain is possibly the most pageant-hostile country in the free world. And I don't see a British girl winning Miss World any time soon (not even as a ploy considering the 2012 Summer Olympics will be held in London), but not for lack of trying. The MWO organization doesn't seem to care about there being quality British delegates as much as the rival Miss Universe Organization cares about there being quality American delegates. And even the quality delegates from Great Britain tend to get the shaft. It's one thing to not be biased in favor, but it's another to be biased AGAINST.

02) I don't see any major front-runners this year. Last year was all about Miss Puerto Rico and Miss Mexico, but the former failed to place and the latter only made it to 2nd place overall.

03) I was pleasantly surprised to see Miss Gibraltar take the crown last year. Gibraltar is the smallest country or territory to ever produce a major-league international pageant winner. I think it put Gibraltar on the map. A lot of people didn't even know where Gibraltar was!

04) Frankly, I'm sick of the Miss World pageant in China, even if it's relatively cheaper to produce the pageant there. I do wish that the MWO tried newer places to host. At least Miss Universe has a diverse track record.

05) I like the fast-track system. Some people may complain, but any opportunity to get into Miss World's good graces before coronation night is worth taking.

06) I HATE the coronation night telecasts. There used to be some hint of competition, but now it's a 2-hour travelogue show disguised as a major worldwide television event.

07) They need to do something about the prize packages. For instance, HAVE SOME BLOODY PRIZE PACKAGES! Not just for the winner and runners-up, but for everyone else just for participating. A measly $100,000 for the winner? America's Next Top Model's cycle winners get a contract worth that much for shilling CoverGirl Cosmetics. Why not give the winner $1,000,000 tax-free, a talent deal with a major international company, and a new car?

08) I'd like to see some of the Miss World participating countries compete at Miss Universe, such as Bosnia & Herzegovina, Macedonia, Moldova, Belarus, Lithuania, Nepal, Mongolia, and Macau. But with MU's exorbitant fees and NBC Universal clamping down on the number of delegates (no more than 85) so it won't ruin the 2-hour show (GROAN), I'm not holding out much hope.

MW only started traveling in 1989. Vietnam was supposed to host this event but had to pull out but the Vietnamese sponsor for the supposed Vietnam show is picking up the tab for this year's event. After what happend in 2002, they've become more cautious. Besides, they were responsible for turning Sanya around. Miss World is directly credited for helping Sanya's tourism industry.

Also MU is more flexible interms of franchise fee as oppose to Miss Universe. For MUO the franchise is set at around 5000-10000USD annually. MWO is at around 3000USD but is flexible if the franchise holder is unable to pay the said amount.

Not even Miss Universe provides car and MW's cash prize is still higher than MU. The last time a car was part of the prize package for both competition was 1996. The prize package of MU is not like what it used to. For MU, do you think the non-finalist have any prizes? They don't. They're given gifts from the sponsors. A semi-finalist/finalist at Miss Universe is only given 500USD while the 1st-4th runners-up are given 3K, 2K, and 1K both 3rd and 4th). Miss World gives around 20K and 10K to its 2 runners-up.
