DannyelBrazil Posted September 27, 2010 Report Posted September 27, 2010 Danny, is that a very elegant electric-fan grille? Or a Japanese parasol? Or a parasol caught in an electric fan? Just kidding. It's really quite ingenious. With that logo, if I were the actual Aomori, I would just go ahead and BID!! LOL!!! Electric fan grille was great!!! Thx for the comments BTW< loved RobH proposal, but isn't it Aomori 2022???
Rob2012 Posted September 28, 2010 Report Posted September 28, 2010 Thanks Danny but you might want to reread the opening post Incidentally, I produced it entirely within inkscape which is free software...details above if you want to get the software.
Scotguy Posted September 28, 2010 Report Posted September 28, 2010 Il send another submission with the right date, so that tnmp has 2018 and 2022 whatever one he decides to use
Rob2012 Posted September 28, 2010 Report Posted September 28, 2010 Seeing as we have a few logos which have followed Danny's lead with the 2022 date, I'm happy to change mine to 2022 if Puppy wants to change the rules to fit what everyone else has done.
thatsnotmypuppy Posted September 28, 2010 Author Report Posted September 28, 2010 2018 or 2022 is fine with Aomori. I wont deduct points either way While I am loving the Aomori logos thus far I am not seeing much of Aomori itself... I see lots of Japan though. Aomori is well known for it's apple orchards, the birth of shamisen playing and of course as a gateway to Hokkaido. For those still working away maybe consider those points? Again I love what has come so far! As for Dubai - go crazy! It's a city with no real past - stuck in a future that may never happen! Go insane and uber creative!! Otherwise - I am very impressed. Remember what happened last time - a really good idea won over insane artistic trickery...
barrack Posted September 28, 2010 Report Posted September 28, 2010 What's the official dealine for submission?
demetrius Posted September 28, 2010 Report Posted September 28, 2010 DUBAI 2020 As a reference to a sport event, it consists of a stylized dynamic human figure under the five Olympic rings. Composed of two arabic letters “D”, for Dubai, the emblem is rich in symbolism. The warm colors (red and yellow) symbolize the hospitality of the host city and of course the warm climate of the desert.
DannyelBrazil Posted September 28, 2010 Report Posted September 28, 2010 Seeing as we have a few logos which have followed Danny's lead with the 2022 date, I'm happy to change mine to 2022 if Puppy wants to change the rules to fit what everyone else has done. The first time I saw the thread it was already 2022. I didn't know that it was changed to 2018. Or did I assume that it was 2022 and actually it's 2018 since the beginning? I never used inkspace but I know people who uses it and loves it. The important about design-creation is not the software, but the idea
Rob2012 Posted September 28, 2010 Report Posted September 28, 2010 Indeed, but the software definitely helps, and it's great that there's free software out there which really is very, very good. I couldn't have made my logo in MSPaint, I'll tell you that much!! EDIT: just remembered, I've taken my logo down for now while I tweak it. But my point still stands, even though you can't see it!

Of course MS Paint make the things very difficult, but, I already saw really good works on it... But, I have to say, they were good but they didn't looked pro.
Lord David Posted September 29, 2010 Report Posted September 29, 2010 I'm in, I'll hopefully come up with something unique for Aomori.
Mr Tickle Posted September 29, 2010 Report Posted September 29, 2010 Thought I'd give it a go. The red circle is to represent the Japanese flag. The symbol in the centre is a snowlake created by a calligraphy brush in the style of traditional japaneese writing but is also supposed to look like fire. Ive put it on some transport as well to show how the snowflake becomes a wallpaper for creating the look of the bid. The slogan of the bid is 'It's hot when it's cold' (Thanks to Katy Perry for that one)
Citius Altius Fortius Posted September 29, 2010 Report Posted September 29, 2010 when is the deadline? I would love to join my ranking so far: Dubai Scotguy Demetrius DannyelBrazil Aamori DannyelBrazil daveypodmore Scotguy cormiermax demetrius
Sir Rols Posted September 29, 2010 Report Posted September 29, 2010 I'm looking forward to the vote. This is gonna be really competitive.
DannyelBrazil Posted September 30, 2010 Report Posted September 30, 2010 Really smart, literally!!! Seeing this entry and other I can say that the Aomori comp will be really in pro-level.
barrack Posted September 30, 2010 Report Posted September 30, 2010 So I have a Dubai emblem to add to the mix, but I'm looking for suggestions for a gamestime use of it. Also, I'm guessing imageshack is the place to host the image?
barrack Posted September 30, 2010 Report Posted September 30, 2010 Here's my submission for Dubai 2020. As mentioned before, I could use some help in coming up with a gamestime use. It's not all that original, but I really wanted to take part in a logo comp! This logo makes use of Islamic geometric design which is seen throughout Dubai. Displaying it on the curve of a sphere is a nod to the modernity of the city and gives the notion of a new horizon. The colors represent both the desert sand and the sun, both of which dominate Dubai's natural landscape. The font, however plain, is clean, much like the city itself.

It's actually the logo of Dubai Airport, that was my inspiration too. =] I t's really a beautiful modern arabic graphics! I like it too!
Rob2012 Posted September 30, 2010 Report Posted September 30, 2010 That really is one of the best logos in this thread Barrack, as soon as I saw it I could see the Islamic influence and I like the Gold colouring; it could be a medal or an Olympic flame. If I were to suggest some tweaks, I'd say text colour should be toned down to a dark/mid grey rather than black so the eye is drawn more to the logo and less to the heavy text, and perhaps add some kind of fade effect to the logo itself just to bring out its 3Dness. But those are only small points, I think it just goes to show a good idea trumps too much jiggery pokery. EDIT: just seen Danny's post and it IS the logo of Dubai Airports.... http://www.cato.com.au/assets/1f0f7e80cd388253a7b27f0cc1e2c184286747cd/dubaiairports01.jpg Hmmmmmmm.....a nice logo indeed but I don't know whether recolouring existing logos should count

I like it too! Thanks. I told you it wasn't original! I jsut changed the colors a bit. So really, I can't take too much credit, if any at all.
barrack Posted September 30, 2010 Report Posted September 30, 2010 Hmmmmmmm.....a nice logo indeed but I don't know whether recolouring existing logos should count That's fair if you want to take it out of the competition. Like I said, it's not original. I happened to research a lot of Islamic design and was drawn to the geometric designs, knowing that I wanted to project one onto a globe/ball. So I searched around and found this logo and I thought "damn, already done." However... for me this was mostly an exercise in learning Inkscape and GIMP, and I've learned a lot about the software just this week alone. So I'm actually confidant that I can come up with a more-original design (but admittedly, same concept). If you'll allow such an entry, I'll get on it. Dubai 2020 "prêt à porter" I love the middle shirt. Really sleek.

I'm not running the competition so it's not up to me. I didn't mean to come across as discouraging either; I really like the concept of Islamic geometry applied to a football, but am dissapointed that the actual artwork is not your own, that's all. If that doesn't bother anyone else, fine. I would say one thing though...in using the Airport logo I think you've sold your concept short, because the shape isn't really spherical enough to come across as a ball - I took it to be the desert and the horizon. As I said before, it looks great, but it doesn't convey your idea perhaps as well as some original art would do... Have fun learning the software anyway - I've only really got to grips with Inkscape myself in the last week or so. I should have my reworked Aomori logo up at some point tonight.
DannyelBrazil Posted September 30, 2010 Report Posted September 30, 2010 I don't think the logo should be ruled out. Not everybody here is a pro-graphics designer. Indeed, I like the logo and it's new proposal inside Olympic world. But I do think that people who uses an existing artwork should give the credit.
